How to Write To Companies For Coupons (Sample Letter Asking for Coupons)

What to say to Companies to get FREE Coupons

Reader Belinda F. from Washington asks the following question: I have heard that one way to get coupons is to write to companies and they will send you coupons. But how do you go about this, what should I say and exactly how effective is this method for getting coupons?

Dear Belinda,

What you have heard is correct, one way that you can get coupons is to write to companies and ask them for coupons.

There are no real hard and fast rules for what to say but we have found that when you send a compliment to a company about a product that you love and ask them for coupons you are more likely to get a response and in a few weeks an envelope with a coupon or two in the mail.

The best way to write to a company is via their website. Just about all but the smallest brands have a website these days and most if not all of these company websites have a “contact us” link somewhere on their site, usually located in the header (top) or footer (bottom) of the page.

Here you will usually find either an email address that you can send an email to them or an online form to fill out.

When writing to a company for coupons you will want to make sure to include the following:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your mailing address (so that they can send you coupons!)
  3. And your message

In your message you want to be polite and praise the product and then kindly ask if they happen to have any coupons that they can send you.

Dear Do-Dad’s Do-Dad,

I am writing to you today to simply let you know how much I love your chocolate flavored Do-Dads, I recently picked up a package at my local Walmart and was very impressed. Chocolate is my favorite flavor of Do-Dad’s but in the past when I have tried other brands of Do-Dad’s the chocolate flavor was chalky.

However Do-Dad’s Do-Dad really hit the nail on the head with the chocolate flavor and I am a fan!

I would love to know if there is any way that you can send me some coupons or otherwise put me on your mailing list for future coupons so that I may try your other flavors.

Sincerely,

Now there is no promise that the company will send you coupons, and in fact some companies may even send you a form email back stating that they don’t send coupons or to look for coupons in your Sunday paper and some even don’t reply back at all.

But, I have found that about 85% of companies will send you coupons in the mail. So it is worth trying. In fact the coupons that these companies send are sometimes high value coupons or even free item coupons that you would not be able to get else ware.

On the flip side of writing companies for coupons you can also send complaint letters. We at HotCouponWorld don’t advocate sending false claims of inferior products, but if you do have a legitimate complaint about a product go ahead and send your complaint letter to the company.

With a complaint letter don’t ask for coupons but instead make your complaint strong and well written without getting angry. Often times a company when presented with a customer complaint will send high value or free item coupons to replace the product you bought or incentivize you do give their product one more try.

  1. Dear Heidi,
My best deal for coupons from a company was Whiskas. I had purchased several cans of whiskas cat food it was on sale and had coupons. The cans had small dents in them and didnt think much about it but when I got home to feed it to my 2 cats Muttons and Ms. Licorice, I opened the can and could tell that there was something wrong with the food.
A friend of mine suggested to call the company (This was back when home computers were just first coming out).
The lady I spoke with was very apologetic about the cat food told me to go ahead and throw it away and they sent me tons of coupons with quite a few being free coupons for whiskas. Needless to say after that I was very impressed with the way they handled it and they had my continuing support.
