Homemade Cream Of Anything Soup Mix Recipe

Cream Of Anything Soup

There are a lot of recipes that call for one type or another canned cream of _____ soup (mushroom, celery, chicken, etc) and while this is something that us couponers can usually get pretty cheaply I just find the canned soups kind of…well, gross. To me they look like canned snot. So I was poking around Pinterest and found just the solution and had to share with my frugal HotCouponWorld peeps!

This recipe comes from Vicky over at One Orange Giraffe and is a keeper. I made up my own batch over the weekend and it really works!

 Homemade Cream Of Anything Soup

Dry Mix:

  • 1 cup non-fat dried milk
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup bouillon cubes
  • 4 Tablespoons freeze dried minced onions (I used the minced onions from Sam’s Club)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (I couldn’t find the thyme so I used dried parsley instead)
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • (For the equivalent of one can of condensed cream soup, mix 1/3 cup dry mix with 1 1/4 cup water. Cook until thick)

    • I used it to make tuna noodle casserole. Nothing really fancy and I don’t really have a recipe that I go from.

I just cook up some noodles (elbow macaroni), add a can or two of tuna fish that has been drained, some cooked peas (I prefer cooked frozen peas, but you can use canned) and then some of the prepared cream of anything soup (2 cups or so of the prepared stuff). Then eat. If you like you can put it in a casserole dish and top with sliced cheese and/or bread crumbs and bake it off at 350 for 20-30 minutes. It’s pretty easy to make and one of the only ways my kids will eat tuna fish.

  1. this would be a great holiday gift for family members. make up and then put in a nice jar with the recipe and how to use!!! or put in a basket with the homemade taco seasoning and some homemade jelly/salsa

  2. On the bullion cubes. I do not understand that. Are you grinding them down to powder ? or can bullion granules be used and what would be the measurement to that ?
