Prep Time2 minutes
Cuisine: Chinese

Ingredients

  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seed
  • 1 Teaspoon Star Anise
  • 1 Teaspoon Szechwan Peppercorns or substitute with regular black peppercorns

Instructions

  • Run all the ingredients in a spice grinder or clean coffee grinder. Or, do it old school and use a mortar and pestle.

Notes

Besides adding a pinch to chicken or beef stir fry I also like to make a Chinese meatball stir-fry. To make the meatballs you just take ground turkey (not beef), a little minced garlic, some dried bread crumbs, an egg and a generous pinch of Chinese Five Spice powder. Mix it together and form small meatballs. Cook in a pan till done and add to cooked stir fry veggies and your favorite bottled sauce (we like Teriyaki). Sever over rice. Very kid friendly recipe and the meatballs are fun for the kids to try and eat with chopsticks.
