Homemade Marinara Sauce

- 6 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion chopped
- 2 cans whole tomatoes ~70oz total
- 10-12 cloves garlic roasted
- 2 bay leaf
- 4 tsp dried basil
- 1 cup red wine dry
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp dried marjoram
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
- 2 tsp balsamic vinegar optional
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add onion to hot oil until softened for about 10 minutes
Add basil, red wine, honey, oregano, marjoram, salt, black pepper, fennel seeds, and red pepper into the tomato mixture.
Bring mixture to a simmer and cook 35 minutes.
Add tomatoes, roasted garlic, and bay leaves to the pot.
Bring the sauce to a boil
Reduce to medium-low and simmer mixture for an additional 35 min.
(Optional) Stir balsamic vinegar into the sauce.
