How To Can Mandrin Oranges
How To Can Mandrin Oranges

When I saw this pin on Pinterest I KNEW I had to share it because I remember having a conversation about canned mandarin oranges with my buisness partner Julie. She was upset that she couldn’t find canned mandarin oranges in the grocery stores that were not made in China.

Now I argued with her that they are called “Mandarin” oranges because they are Chinese, hense the name. But she wasn’t buying it (my line OR the made in China oranges).

So this one is for you Julie… can your own. We get those Cuties coupons all the time this year so this is super simple and really looks easy. I think I am going to give it a try!

Beef with Broccoli

Beef with BroccoliMy twins birthday is on Halloween however because it falls on a weekday this year it makes it sort of hard to have a birthday party because the kids are in school and then they want to go trick-or-treating or families have plans. So we decided to do a small party here at the house yesterday and they were allowed to pick out what they wanted for dinner. Carly wanted tortellini and Liam wanted hamburgers. But I told them that they had to agree on what they wanted. Carly hates hamburgers and Liam hates tortellini but they both love Chinese food. So they compromised and we came up with a menu of Beef with Broccoli, egg rolls and pot stickers (cake and ice cream too of course!).

So mommy went looking on Pinterest for a recipe for Beef with Broccoli and after looking through a couple of different recipes settled on this one from Rainy Day Gal because it looked easy enough and didn’t require any weird ingredients.

I doubled the recipe to make 8 servings instead of four and added a teaspoon of ground ginger to the marinade and it was PERFECT. In fact everyone said that I needed to put it in my tried and true recipe folder (I use Evernote to organize my recipes and just about my entire life!). We tossed frozen egg rolls in the oven and heated up frozen potstickers on the stove. I don’t have a wok, so I used my electric skillet and it was just fine!

The little party was a great sucess and the kids had a great time.

Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

Have I mentioned that I LOVE FALL? I do, I really do. I love the turning of the leaves, I love little kids in cute costumes with sticky candy smeared faces. I love the smell of a Yankee Candle Autumn Wreath scented candle burning. I love a cup of hot apple cider and I love food made with pumpkin. I always stock up right after Christmas when they put it on clearance and is super cheap (like 50¢ or less per can). But it is starting to get sad in my stockpile…I am down to only 4 cans of pumpkin. But THIS recipe for Pumpkin Cinnamon rolls is worthy I think….for sure!

Caramel Stuffed Apple Cider Cookies

Caramel Stuffed Apple Cider Cookies

Check out these Caramel Stuffed Apple Cider cookies! Don’t they just scream “Autumn”? What I think is brilliant is that they use that powdered apple cider drink mix (the kind you find near the hot cocoa in the grocery store) and Kraft caramels. Yum!

Apple Jack Chicken Pizza With Caramelized Onions

Doesn’t this pizza look delicious? I spotted this one while looking for apple recipes on Pinterest. Why am I looking for apple recipes? Because fall is almost here!

Plus pizza is always a hit at our house for dinner and I actually think my kids might eat this even if it is not Papa John’s Tuscan Six Cheese pizza (their favorite).

Either way, I am putting it in my recipe file and going to make it really soon!

DIY Pet Tags

DIY Pet ID Tags

When I saw this pin on Pinterest I knew I had to share it with our readers here at HCW. I know that so many of you are pet lovers and this is such a frugal way to keep your pet safe with a simple DIY project.

All you need to do is use Shrinky-Dinks and this downloadable PDF form to make your own pet ID tags.

What I love about this idea the most I think is that you can easily make up tags for your pets when you are on vacation and your pets can have your temporary vacation number or your cell number on them. In the past when we have taken our dogs on vacation we have used duct tape on their collar to make sure they had our cell numbers on them. But this is so much easier.
Plus I could even see using the non-dog bone shapes as maybe other craft projects as well. Maybe key chains or gift tags or something…

Homemade Spaghettio's

I am not a fan of the canned pasta, but my kids sure are and so I am really excited to have found this recipe on Pinterest for a homemade version of Spaghettio’s.

Love that you can double the batch and freeze it for convenience sake. I plan on putting this in single serving sized plastic containers and freezing. Then when the kids get a hankering for some Spaghettio’s we can whip out a couple containers, heat them up in the microwave and voila…lunch is served!

Vanilla Sugar

Vanilla Sugar

I have been meaning to do a post on making your own vanilla sugar because well, because I love this stuff in my coffee. Seriously it beats artificially flavored coffee creamer hands down for a french vanilla coffee. It is more subtle of a vanilla flavor but that is how I like it. I have a big ol’ package of vanilla beans in my pantry (I buy my vanilla beans on Amazon because they are WAY expensive where I live) and am so going to make this this weekend.

Cinnamon Churro Chex Mix

Cinnamon Churro Chex MixI love a good Chex Mix and there are tons of yummy recipes out there for different flavors. Here is a new one I have spotted on Pinterest and since I also love churros (those deep fried tubes of dough covered in cinnamon & sugar) this is one I had to share with our readers. I am putting it on my to-make list for sure. And since us couponers can often get Chex cereal pretty cheap with coupons it is a no-brainer for us stockpilers!
