Smart Couponing Tip: Avoiding Crowds At The Grocery Store
To avoid the crowds and longer check-out time at the grocery store there are a few things you can do.
Shop at non-peak hours – grocery stores are the most crowded between about 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM as people are off on their lunch break, they slow down a little between 1 and 5 and then pick back up even busier as people are getting off of work and running to the store for dinner items.
Saturday is usually one of the busier days of the week because people are shopping when they are off of work. Sunday is busy too but a little less so if you must shop on Sunday go before noon while many people are at church. Otherwise, wait till after the dinner rush.
Friday is a busy day too because people get paid. And, on that note, the first and the 15th of the month are usually busier too because people who get state checks (SSI, TANF, etc) get paid.
If you happen to find yourself running in to the grocery store during peak traffic hours and you don’t have a lot of groceries to check out you may be able to avoid some lines by checking to see if you can check out at the customer service desk or other less popular cash registers.
For example, at my local store as long as you don’t have produce that needs to be weighed and there is not a line, you can check out a couple of items at the Starbucks located inside. And at Walmart, the automotive, jewelry, electronics or garden center cash registers are usually the quickest in and out of the store.
