What To Buy In January
As we start off a new year there is lots of great deals to be had in January. By following the sales cycles, buying in season and staying on top of what deals to be watching out for you are already ahead of the game.
January is the kick off for the football season so this is the time to start stocking up on items like canned chili, Velveeta cheese, Little Smokies, bacon, crescent rolls, cheese, canned soups and the like.
We should also see some pretty decent sales on hamburger and roasts.
Pepsi normally kicks off some good sales, coupons and promotions in January too with savings on soda, Quaker (it is national oatmeal month too!), Tropicana, Aquafina, Frito Lay and other brands owned by their company. Coca-Cola tries to compete with the soda sales.
If you are a beer drinker watch for sales and mail in rebates for the major beer brands like Budweiser, Coors, Miller and the like.
January is usually also the last push for canned foods for a few months. Canned beans, soups, tomatoes, fruit and veggies should have some good deals so this is a great time to stockpile these items when the prices are low.
Because of New Year’s resolutions diet & weight loss products are going to be hot. Look for great sales & coupons on vitamins, supplements, diet frozen meals, meal replacement shakes and bars and other items to help you reach your weight loss goals.
January is a great time to purchase organizing supplies. Sales on plastic totes and bins, label makers, filing supplies, and other products to get you organized are everywhere.
White sales are also a hot thing this month as major retail stores both brick and mortar and online offer great deals on sheets, towels and other household linens.
If you are in the market for a new treadmill or other exercise equipment then this is a good time to buy as retailer drop their prices in the hopes of gaining new sales to all those folks resolving to lose weight in the New Year.
As electronic stores clear out overstock from the Christmas holidays and make room for this year’s models January can be a good month to buy a new computer as well. I still think Back to School sales are the best time to buy but if you need one sooner rather than later then there are good deals to be had.
If you are one of the lucky people that don’t wait until the last minutes to file your taxes (like me) then you will be happy to know that the end of January is when we start to see the deals trickle in for tax software like Turbo Tax.
By the first of the month most major retailers like Walmart, Target, Kmart, CVS, Walgreens and the like are going to have their Christmas clearance out at 75% off or more. The selection by this time may be pretty picked over but there are still good deals to be had. Don’t forget to look for holiday specific packaging on items like aluminum foil, plastic cups & plates, Ziploc bags, cereal, cookies, crackers and the like too. These items may not be in the holiday clearance area of the store either so keep your eyes peeled and use coupons whenever possible.
Also this is the time of year that many brands put out new product lines and get rid of old one or switch out their packaging. So keep your eyes peeled for clearance on the older items.
Purchasing and eating produce that is in season is often the cheaper option and one of the better ways to save money on fresh produce and they tend to taste better than produce that was shipped in from a far away location.
