Chinese Five Spice Powder recipe
I always add a pinch or two of Chinese Five Spice powder to my stir fry dishes because I think this spice mixture just adds a little extra “oomph” and authentic taste.
Recently, I was making stir fry, but as I went to my spice cupboard I soon found out that I was all out!
A quick search on the internet found a Chinese Five Spice Powder recipe that I could make myself and luckily I had all the ingredients on hand.

Chinese Five Spice Powder Recipe
- 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
- 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seed
- 1 Teaspoon Star Anise
- 1 Teaspoon Szechwan Peppercorns or substitute with regular black peppercorns
- Run all the ingredients in a spice grinder or clean coffee grinder. Or, do it old school and use a mortar and pestle.
