Sloppy Joes Recipe
This recipe comes straight out of our family cookbook created by my husbands grandparents and is something we enjoy making about once a month. The name is called “Spoon Burgers” because you spoon it on your hamburger bun, but you may know it as “Sloppy Joes”. No matter what you call it, I call it good! And it is easy to make. This recipe is a great use for some of the condiments many of us have in our stockpiles. I don’t know about you but I always have a ton of condiments. In fact one of my kids told me the other day “we don’t have anything to eat, just toppings!”
Of course we had something to eat, just nothing he wanted to eat…like ketchup. 🙂
1 1/2 Pounds ground beef
1/4 Cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon mustard
1/2 Tablespoon vinegar
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 Tablespoons minced onion
1 Green pepper, chopped
1/2 Cup celery, chopped
2 Cans tomato sauce
Brown hamburger on stove-top and then drain and rinse off the grease.
Throw everything in a crock-pot and stir and cook on low for 2 to 4 hours.
Or simmer on the stove top in a pan on low for 45 minutes, stirring every so often.
Serve over hamburger buns.
