We discussed the easing of restrictions at our school and even though they state that students and teachers can now be 3 feet apart, we still keep it 6 feet apart. As more adults get vaccinated, I see that more children are getting sick. Our governor is easing some restrictions slightly but he is he hot water with personal allegations against his conduct, so he is trying to pacify some and our state has legalized marijuana. Can't imagine the damage that will do down the road, but it will increase tax revenues to the state when the dispensaries start opening up. A disaster waiting to happen.

Remember when the virus was first discovered, news reports claimed that kids were not getting sick and that is not the case today. Another sad milestone is that the worldwide death toll is now over 3 million!!!!! Recently, I read that we may need a booster shot and if that is the case I will get it. I just wish they could eradicate this virus once and for all.

I am very relieved that Crankie finally got his vaccine yesterday. He did not want the vaccine, thinking he had immunity from already contracting the virus. After talking to him many times and watching the news on how the delta variant is wreaking havoc, he may have seen my point. However, his job was going to put restrictions on where he could work and this finally got him to change his mind about the vaccine. Basically, he walked into CVS near our other house and got with vaccine with no wait. He also shopped at CVS, used my digital coupons and got me $3 ecr.

My school job starts September 1st and we will be wearing masks while in school. My bank job even said I had to wear a mask if I have contact with customers. However, sometimes I wear it and sometimes I do not. I have a plexi glass barrier and I am vaccinated. I would say about 25% of our customers wear a mask. IF the booster shot becomes available, I will make sure to get it. It was my hope that this virus would be over with but it just seems to find the those who do not have a vaccine. Even scarier are the people who had the vaccine and get sick with covid. Saying prayers that we all stay healthy and can one day say we do not have to worry about this virus any more.

I have gone back to mask wearing in the stores now that I am back here in Colorado. They are so much more crowded that in AK and you can't keep 6 foot away from everbody. I know someone who was vacinated and got covid delta variant a couple of weeks ago, so I am taking precautions. It seems that the variant is really going around here alot.

At this point, I don't want to get even mildly sick as I have travel plans in a couple of weeks.

I do spend a lot of time alone anyway, but I have also been seeing friends a little bit since I have been back. to town. I am glad to be "getting away" next week to the mountains by myself. DH is still working and could bring the crud home at anytime too...

We are all coughing anyway here because of the ozone alerts, so you can't tell if someone is sick or not. After 4 pm today into tomorrow morning is another ozone alert. I am not going outside for a while anyway today because of the heat, but I can tell the air is "bad" even from inside the house. I am getting a slight headache too. Another reason I miss Alaska - the clean air.

Just this week, our school sent a memo that all employees must get vaccinated or submit a negative covid test weekly. Our governor mentioned this last week, but our school told us now. The vaccine card I received was given in March to our school nurse and she made a copy of it. A few of my friends do not want the vaccine and will have to get tested on their own time and at their expense Recently, another teacher in my school came down with covid.

Crankie still has to get his second shot. Yesterday, a friend of his passed away from the delta variant. He and his wife were just here in July, at our house for the July 4th bbq. What upsets me most is that this couple and their BIL and SIL were all vaccinated but came down with covid in Florida. We should all be vigilant and wear our masks. This is not over by a long shot.

I am waiting to see what happens in the coming weeks and am concerned that my job has vaccinated people who have come down with covid. Yet, those who are not vaccinated will be required to test weekly. Should every employee be tested, vaccinated or not? There is confusion of what is expected and what people will be required to do but none of this is being spelled out for the employees. Do you follow the CDC rules, the Governor's rules, state mandates or your employers rules???? Union members are questioning things and not getting a response. Is it a state issue or a school issue....time will tell.

On Monday if New York city teachers do not present proof of having at least one covid shot, they will be fired. However, a federal court ruling may put the brakes on this decision this past Friday evening, if only for a short while. Who knows how chaotic this will be and how many lawsuits this will bring. NYc has had 2000 cases of covid since the beginning of the school year. That may be a small number for such a large school district, but it is alarming.

In Long Island, there are 4 sites where people can do drive thru testing for covid each week. It will involve the rapid test so hopefully it will be done quickly. If you do not present a test result, you will be sent home.

A co-worker had a break through case of covid and another was very ill and is not feeling well enough to come back. It blows my mind that vaccinated or not, people are still getting sick.

I have had all three Pfizer jabs and a flu shot thrown in for good measure. The only people I know personally who have not been vaccinated are Marina's five-year-old and my five-week-old granddaughter. (Actually, it is my understanding that the baby is protected because my daughter was vaccinated as soon as the second trimester of her pregnancy began.)

While most of the teachers in NYC have been vaccinated, those who do not get at least the first shot will be fired from their jobs. The mayor has issued this mandate and they have enforced it. Unvaccinated teachers will get a year of health coverage but no salary. AS of now, 97% of all teachers in NYC area are vaccinated. In Long Island, unvaccinated teachers must test weekly and produce a negative result in order to go to work. This seems to be working for us and I hope it continues.

Meanwhile, in Texas, the governor issued a mandate banning all vaccine mandates!

Over the weekend, d1 and I ate at a restaurant in one of NYC's 5 boroughs and had to show proof of vaccination in order to be served. Luckily, we downloaded an app put out by New York state that shows your name, DOB and the date we were vaccinated with an expiration date of this information. It did not load the first few times I tried it but it worked for me one month ago. I used the app again Sunday when my sister treated us to breakfast. My sister carries a copy of my mother's card on her phone and she had her actual vaccine card. I told my sister to download the app so she does not always have to carry her actual card with her. My sister is a nurse and I asked her if she planned on getting a booster shot. She said she would and has to make an appointment. Her hospital is not pressuring her to get it but it makes sense that they would offer it in her hospital.

Asking for prayers for my mother in law. She fell at her home in Arizona. She was hospitalized with 2 broken ribs. Now she has Covid and is not doing well. A voice in my head said to call her last week and I did not. I called her last night and she could not talk as she was struggling to breathe. My brother in law is only allowed to see her 15 mins a day.
It makes me sad that this could have been avoided or been less severe if she had gotten the vaccine. While she was visiting us this summer she was offered the vaccine when I was at the hospital with her but refused. My nephew informed me that she is worse and is close to being intubated. Just very sad to wake up to this news.

My mother in law passed away from covid his morning. She was treated with Remdesivir but took a turn for the worse yesterday. They wanted to put her on a ventilator but she refused and they made her comfortable until she passed.
Please get vaccinated if you have not gotten it yet. I believe she could have beaten this had she been vaccinated.

Exactly a year to the day, d2 contracted covid again. She was fully vaccinated and I found out 4 co-workers of hers were also sick with covid. It did not help that she traveled out of state the last 2 weekends. Other than a fever, she is fine and is taking some medicine. Problems arose when she wanted to come home and I refused to let her come here. IF she came here, I could not go to work. Also I did not want to miss another Christmas and New Years. We argued and I was to the point of tears. In the end, she stayed in her boyfriend's apartment and he went to stay in his parent's basement. D2 did not go back to her apartment since one of the roommates has a sister with cancer.
My plan is to get a booster and I am just trying to time it when I am not so busy. HOpe to find an appointment on a Friday so I recover if I feel any side effects.

Jasmine - So sorry about your mother in law - I havent looked here too often because not much happening w the coupons I post. Sorry also about daughter. Hope that she is OK again. We are seeing more people who are fully vaccinated getting Covid but at least many are not in hospitals and on ventilators like before the vaccines were available. I just ordered more N-95 masks - I hope that the extra protection will help when around others, especially those who do not take precautions. It looked like things were getting ready to open up again and along came Omicron. I hate to think of what is next with this virus that has so many strains. Stay well and same fwish or all others who are taking precautions.

@jastwins I am so sorry to see that your MIL passed away. I haven't been looking at this forum as much as I did but with the warnings about omicron and indoor gatherings, I decided to check it out.

I can certainly understand your situation with D2 and not traveling. Our two daughters wanted to come for Christmas and invited their aunt (my DH's sister). We said no. One DD is higher risk. As far as I know we've all had a booster but still. I say don't push it. Hopefully your D2 will understand in time. I know it's hard this time of year but I think we just need to push thru this winter as we did the last.

I didn't have any issues with either shot and the booster was the same. Hoping you can get boosted soon and set your mind at ease. I know we can still get it even if we are fully vaccinated but it seems it would be milder in most cases.

My older sister is a NICU nurse and a coworker and 2 babies they took care of had covid. Now my sister has Covid and has been sent home to quarantine. She is upset since she was hosting Christmas! All plans are canceled and I will try to get my mom out to my house. I understand how upset she is since this happened to me last year. My sis is vaccinated and my mom had her booster shot and tested negative today.

Our workplace has just announced no in-person classes the first week of the spring semester. Also, they announced all employees and students are required to have the booster by the end of January or whenever they can according to the CDC guidlines. Unless they have an approved exemption.

My 32 year old nephew is in ICU with COVID. Not vaccinated.
As someone who believes in science I just cannot fathom this.

Praying for your nephew @bugweena. My bank job just announced that you need to be full vaccinated by February or you are out of a job. They are short staffed as it is and 5 people who work in branches just quit.
I really never thought it would be like this, but it is.
My sister told me a group from the labor and delivery team had a holiday party that became a super spreader. They infected worker s and new born babies. My sister did not attend this party but took care of 2 covid positive infants and her coworker was sick as well. Now my vaccinated sis , a widow, is home sick and will be alone on Christmas.

I am going to say something that will be considered sacrilegious to most people, not only in America but also in Israel: I don't know for certain if getting vaccinated is a good idea or not.

Yes, I have gotten the three jabs and Israel is now considering giving the fourth jab to anyone over the age of 60 or is a medical professional. The government has already approved this but a committee of about 40 top medical professionals overrode the government's decision and the question is now in limbo. The committee's fear is that getting four jabs will damage our immune systems.

The strongest anti-vaxxers are afraid of the long-term effects of even the first injection. Personally, while I am very proud (and happily brag) about my knowledge of western history, in which I majored, when it comes to math and science I was probably the worst student who ever managed to graduate from Princeton. I haven't the slightest idea of whether getting inoculated is a good or a bad idea. I just figure that at age 76, I don't have to worry about long-term impacts of anything, so I take whatever jabs are being offered. Is that a smart thing for someone 50 years younger than me? I simply do not know -- and am not 100% certain that anybody really does know.
