Is anyone else getting e-mails from Fred Meyer/Kroger stores during the COVID-19 crisis?

I'm getting them from Fred Meyer Jewelry, but nothing related to food/variety as I normally do. I've just assumed they weren't sending them out right now, because they didn't want to encourage people to come to the store for items they can't guarantee will be in stock.

I've been depending on Fred Meyer updates on Facebook for any news on COVID-19 changes at the store.

However, last week I got a notice from Kroger Headquarters (not FM in Portland) telling me to make sure I signed up for e-mails so I'd get the latest updates related to COVID-19. I followed the link to the Fred Meyer site and there wasn't a special section on the crisis. I was already signed up for all the other e-mails, so I assumed I was okay.

However, I haven't gotten anything by e-mail since all this started -- including weekly ads or notices that they've added Best Customer Coupons like I normally do. And then I remembered that is exactly what happened when Kroger wouldn't send me ANY e-mails AT ALL for that long stretch when it took over e-mails from Portland Fred Meyer headquarters.

When that happened, I called Portland and ended up routed to the head of Fred Meyer Jewelry -- which apparently is headquartered in Portland, not Cincinnati. That's when I started getting Fred Meyer Jewelry e-mails, but still no regular Fred Meyer e-mails.

Thought I'd better check and make sure everyone else is experiencing the same. I know I got absolutely nowhere with Kroger headquarters for many, many months when my e-mails got cut off before. Finally had to write one of the CEO's before I started getting my e-mails again. Hope I'm not back in that boat.

I have been getting the Health & Safety update emails, and the Best Customer coupon emails periodically, I noticed today the phone app went to a page that offered the signup for the Health & Safety updates.
You could try the phone app - 3 bars in the upper left of Home screen - My Account - scroll down to Email Preferences.
That allows you to select Weekly Ad, Specials & Promotions and Monthly Newsletter.
It's been a while since I tried to find the email preferences on their web site but if I recall I couldn't find it anymore.

That's what I was afraid of. I suppose Kroger has cut me off from e-mails AGAIN! :( WHY? They were coming SO regularly before the crisis hit. Cincinnati seems to have a grudge and always used to blame my Internet carrier, but Portland and apparently Cincinnati the past couple years had NO problem sending them to my e-mail carrier.

They kept insisting I use another e-mail address with another carrier, but I RARELY check those accounts so it would be a HUGE hassle. My G-Mail account got hacked several years ago and I don't trust it for ANYTHING important like a store account with personal information.

I haven't been using the phone app, because DH ended up getting the phone I was planning to use when they antiquated his old Tracfone. I just use the computer website and don't want to beg to use his phone all the time.

I did find the section you're talking about on the computer website (three bars on the upper left) and it does have a spot to click for COVID-19 updates, however, when you click it there is no section to opt in for COVID e-mails as promised. I've been signed up for all the other e-mails (Weekly Ad, Specials & Promotions and Monthly Newsletter) for ages.

I noticed a bunch of Best Customer coupons on my coupon list the other day, but just about missed them because they weren't at the top in the "Most Recent" coupons. They were farther down the list instead. I check the coupons every day, but when they show up farther down the list they are easy to miss and without an e-mail ...

The first few weeks, I just assumed no one was getting e-mails, but when I was asked to sign-up for COVID updates, couldn't find the spot to do so when I clicked on the link and then never started to get the updates I began to wonder.

Okay, I thought of another question.

Have you been getting Fred Meyer receipt surveys since the COVID-19 Crisis began?

They disappeared for me as soon as the panic buying began and like the e-mails I assumed the two were related. I figured Kroger didn't want to hear complaints about all the things that were missing from store shelves and discontinued them until the crisis abated.

Since the e-mails quit coming about the same time, now I'm wondering if I got bumped off those, as well. I used to get them on a regular basis.

I'm apparently still a "Best Customer" since I've gotten Best Customer coupons during the crisis, but ...

I looked back through my old e-mails and I got e-mails regularly up until about 2015 when they were sent from Portland. Then they abruptly quit when Kroger in Cincinnati took them over.

I've got a TON of e-mails going back and forth through 2015 and 2016 where I PLEADED to get e-mails again. They kept making me unsubscribe and resubscribe to e-mails. It NEVER worked.

I spoke to the head of Fred Meyer Jewelry in Portland in March or April of 2016 and that's when I began getting FM Jewelry e-mails on a daily basis. I still get those, but I wasn't able to get my regular Fred Meyer e-mails again until February 2017.

Then they've arrived regularly until February 2020 when they abruptly stopped. UGH!

So are you getting receipt surveys or has Kroger stopped then during the COVID-19 crisis?

I think the surveys were stopped, probably temporarily, none here either.
But the shorter receipts are easier to upload to the rebate apps.
You could maybe use your husband's phone to try opting-in to the emails?

Well, I tried calling the Portland Headquarters office today to ask -- even though I wasn't sure anyone was working in the office. The Portland number re-routed to what I suspected was the Kroger office and a message told me if my call wasn't urgent to hang-up and use the website.

So I tried the Kroger number and got the exact same message -- confirming my suspicions.

Our store isn't overly crowded so hasn't had to limit the number of customers entering the store. I decided to call and see if any other customers here have mentioned not getting e-mails. The customer service gal told me that she didn't think anyone locally was getting e-mails right now.

At least I can hope the e-mails will go back to normal again after all this is over. Until I got into my folder today and saw just HOW many e-mails it had actually taken to get them started back up again last time, I had forgotten that I went two or three years without them the last time around!

I remember it was like going in circles, but the number of e-mails that passed back and forth telling me the same things over and over again is absolutely ridiculous! o_O

I wasn't surprised they stopped the surveys. We were well enough stocked, that we've accepted the shortages simply as "one of those things." However, I'm quite sure the poor store employees have had to deal with some less than cordial customers and I can imagine some would probably be less than understanding on surveys -- despite the fact that toilet paper and diapers aren't in stock anywhere else either.
