My big frugal plan this week was to take my granddaughters to the grocery store today, instead of taking my husband tomorrow, when he's off work. But...it's snowing, and I really don't want to take them out in the snow, deal with pushing a cart through the slushy parking lot, etc. If I wait until tomorrow, Hubby can go with me. He'll drop me off at the door and go get the car when we're done. Yes, he'll find some things to buy that aren't on my list...but I'll keep it under control!

I made my list for Kroger and Meijer this morning, matching up sales with coupons. Both lists are small, and just things we need. It's not a stock-up week!

Hubby will be off for 4 days, starting tomorrow. This is usually when we spend the most money, so I'm going to try to keep a good eye on it. We'll check our restaurant.com account and get a deal on dinner out one night, but the rest of the time, we'll be eating what we have in stock. I have 2 codes for free Redbox movies for entertainment.

My granddaughters will be here today for a visit. They're easily entertained with board games, card games, puzzles, and "creating something" in the kitchen. Today, we're cooking dinner and making cupcakes (free cake mix from Kroger). When DIL comes to get them, the three of them will stay for dinner. My son has to work late, so he can't make it. And my grandson has baseball conditioning for 3 hours, so he can't either. We'll send leftovers for them!

Yesterday, I had quarters for my ferry fare but the machine only takes dollars, so I asked the ferry personnel if I could buy the token from them and they just let me on for free. Two dollars saved!
My passport application was done in blue ink and I had to do it over in black ink. The pic they took of me was not great but it could have been worse My hair looks terrible but I will have to live with that photo for 10 years. I stopped in the bank branch to say hi to some friends, exchanged singles for my quarters and bought a token for the ferry ride back.
I cashed in another dollar for my cans and someone left extra cans in the machine so I cashed those in too. Sometimes the machine does not read the upc code properly and people do not try to put them in again. It got me another 35 cents. This money goes into my save .50 cents a day tin. The plastic bottle machine is always full and I have a bunch to cash in so I will try again today.

Mom and Dad went to ShopRite this week and bought Progresso soup, so this put me over the $5 threshold for Savingstar and I moved $5 over to Paypal today. Thanks Mom and Dad! When I checked my bank balance today, my paycheck from the bank was exactly the dollar amount I needed to pay car insurance so I set that payment up online for tomorrow. Saved me a stamp as well. I am close to a $15 payout on Paidviewpoint and will be on the lookout for a few more surveys.
Tonight is a track and field get together and I had to buy eggs, but I baked brownies and cupcakes from mixes in the pantry. I will also donate a 24 pk of water that I paid for with ecr from CVS.

Hubs car has a 75k mile warranty. It's swiftly approaching, so he took his car in for the once over and to have some recall work done. SOOOO... I had to drive him to work. On the way home, used a $5 McDo's GC for some coffee and a biscuit. I have to go back and get him too. I hate that we live so far from his work (35 miles each way). But the gas is cheaper than an uber or taxi. None of his co-workers live anywhere near us either :(

I have to stop at the 99 cent store for bread and milk today, we are out of both.

Got the three intake/dx appts for my son, but they aren't until next month. It won't be frugal, but getting him into a class where he will be able to learn and grow is what he needs.

Pulled out Bitty Bird's next size clothes last night and weeded out all the stuff she has outgrown. I made a bag to give away, and a bag to take to the resale shop. I also need to go through the toy boxes and pull out all of the baby toys too.

I received a $15 check in the mail yesterday- that's a nice way to start the year.

Lil' Man has asked if we can save bottles and cans to recycle so he can earn money to buy Legos. I used a WM GC I received as a gift to buy a trash can with a lid for the patio to collect recyclables.

We'll be eating at home this weekend and all of next week. I really want to kick up our meal planning a notch. I'm hoping in addition to saving us more money that it will help both of us lose a little weight.

@Abbybob, Li'l Man is his mother's son! Little kid knowing about recycling and saving money! I think everyone here on HCW is impressed with that. You are a good mother.

WOO HOO!! I got a post card some months back about the JCP price fixing law suit and I opted in (My mama didn't raise no fool!!), and I got an email with a $175 JCP.com gift card!

HOLY MOLY. $175 is a lot of money to spend at JCP. They have a 30% off $100+ coupon code right now, so I was able to use my GC, a coupon code, and shop the clearance to pick up:

    3 new outfits for me,
two pairs of pants for Lil' Man,
    2 bathroom rugs,
    a bathroom hamper,
    4 bathsheets,

    and curtains for Bitty's bedroom!

I only paid $12.xx OOP and I used PP money I earned from pinecone surveys to pay for it!

This is all stuff we needed and I had on my list to check for on CL free section or Buy Nothing. And I found a Ikea GC in my wallet that I'll go down and use next week! I'll take Bitty for breakfast (99c breakfasts!) and check out the markdown sections for a small area rug for her room or a shower curtain for the hall bathroom.

My goal for Q1 is to remove the sliders and glass doors in the shower, caulk the holes, and install a curtain rod and shower curtain. Then the kids can use that bathroom to take a bath, instead of the master!

Not a frugal day at all today, but I had fun....

    $2.75 to do my laundry
$4 hot dog and coke for lunch
$24 ticket to Mob museum (ouch!)
$13 Nachos and beers at happy hour - this was my dinner.
$40 wasted into the slot machines :)( - probably why they have those cheap beers in the first place to get you to loosen your grip on your wallet)

Sometimes you just have to have those kind of days though. At least today is a paid vacation for me - as is tomorrow when I fly back home. Not looking forward to commuting with the foot of snow that fell while I was gone. At least DH has the drive cleaned out now!

Love seeing kids getting into recycling and saving money!!! My kids all got I pods this year for Christmas, I got a fantastic deal. My daughters have both downloaded Target cartwheel. My oldest Abby made her first purchase with her cartwheel, she got 15% off storage on a purchase, and paid with Christmas money. This activated her perks and she has a free Starbucks waiting on her, she was thrilled.

Today Avery was in her school spelling bee. Top 2 from each class, 3rd, 4th and 5th competed. That was 34 kids, she came in 14th. It was hard to watch, all the kids were so nervous and a lot of them got upset when they got out. I told Avery she should be proud just to be in it, since only 34 kids made it in. Everything else was just icing on the cake.

After the spelling bee ran in to town to do some errands. Made a payment of $237.40 toward the principle of the house. This was from a small balance left in my house fund plus the little I had leftover from my December budget. Had to get some odds and ends at the grocery. Stayed right in budget for groceries for this week, but that included my subscribe and save toilet paper from Amazon, plus 2 subscribe and save snacks I got from Amazon as well, so I was pleased with that.

Today was a no spend day other than the hotel and car rental charges. I ate my own snack stuff for lunch while waiting for the airplane - which was a bit late leaving Vegas.

I called up DH and had him stick the lasagna in the oven while I was on the way home from the airport. It got done about 10 minutes after he got me home from the transit station, so it worked out perfect for dinner. After DS gets home from work and has his share, then I will package some up for work lunches.

The rest of my evening is gonna be just doing some stuff around the house and finishing up some laundry. There was a whole load of towels from the guys when I got home. I also had a small load of my stuff to put in the washer. DH filled and started the dishwasher already today, so I got out of that chore. I unpacked what absolutely needed to get put away (like the leftover food). Everything is all ready for work tomorrow, so I am good to just relax for a while tonight.

~ I entered a 12 pack coke code from a carton that I found on top of a trash can in Vegas ( at the shopping center where the laundromat was). I also had a code from the 2 liter bottle I had bought.

~I didn't drink all the complementary waters that the hotel supplied, so I put them a gallon ziplock and stuck them between my clothes in the check-in bag. They actually survived the trip home and I can take them to work with me this weekend....

~I brought home the spare toiletries too. The soap is a really nice one, but the lotion was a little odd (kind of a runny consistency). I also got a free sample of face lotion from a store - I will try it out later.

Yesterday was not the most frugal day.

Hubby and I went grocery shopping...and I did keep the spending under control. But we went to breakfast on our way there, so that's an expense I didn't plan for. We also got takeout for dinner, but we didn't spend much at all on it. I realize we spend more money on the 4 day stretch that he's off work, so I'm very frugal on the other 10 days!

Our mattress is at the end of it's life. So, we went mattress shopping. We went to the same place where we bought the sofa and the mattress/box springs for the guest room. We already have an account there, and if we pay it off in 12 months, we won't pay interest. They also waived the delivery charge, and said they'd haul off the old set for free. So, it wasn't a bad deal at all.

For entertainment yesterday afternoon, Hubby watched a Redbox movie, and I read a library book. Very cheap entertainment. Today, we'll be watching basketball on TV.

I saved $14.90 in coupons yesterday, so $7.45 goes into the emergency fund box.

DH will take me to the mall later when he wakes up from his nap. He works nights and is usually up by noon. I'll pick up another order from Abercrombie and after talking to the manager, he will give me add'l 31% from the clearance price I...I mean DH paid. Score!

We might try out the buffet at a hotel/casino we've been eyeing, I read fantastic reviews and their buffet lunch is very reasonable. I figure they keep it low priced for the casino patrons but if they'll give us new customers the same price, we'll try it out and I'll write a review for them on Trip Advisor.

A lot of things going on this New Year, mostly positive. Chinese New Year is also coming up, can't wait for my red money envelopes from my wealthy pieng yius.

We're going out to eat with a friend of our tonight. Because we both want to have a couple of drinks, we're calling Uber. It's the first time either of us has done this. So...we took advantage of the "free first ride" deal. We'll use my account for the ride there...and Hubby's account for the ride home!

The trampoline we ordered the kids for Christmas finally arrived last night, 2 hours after our delivery window, with no phone call to let us know they would be late. It was freezing today but we put it together today, the kids were so excited.
Now all I have to to is make sure Sam's gives me the refund they promised.

Last night because we were in limbo with the delivery, I ended up running in to Panda Express and grabbing dinner. Because we got it to go, we did not get drinks so that saved some money. Hubby sold a Grizzly cooler I won for $150 last night, so that money went into my side cash fund. Went next door to my friend's house last night and played games, so entertainment was free.

Today we put the trampoline together. We ate brats for lunch that we did not eat last night for dinner. I put a roast in the crockpot for dinner and hubby is making potatoes to go along with it. I have to go to Dick's tonight to get Abby some new soccer socks and Avery some goalie gloves. Tonight maybe a movie on the Kodi box.

New Year's Goal (If I say resolution I will forget about them in one week). Save all the money I can from recycling cans and bottles. I will have 3 envelopes 1) what we buy 2) recyclables given to us by our neighbor 3) recyclables given to me by a co-worker. Seems that # 2 & #3 like to give away money. I would also like to try @ XUfans "what I saved with coupons method and see how far I get. We started the year with a broken furnace, vet appointments and car repairs. Hopefully that is it for awhile. Finally my number 1 goal is to spend more time on this site reconnecting with everyone.

Over the weekend, I wanted to go to Kohl's and use my gift cards and boy, was I disappointed. The sales were terrible...buy one get one 1/2 off. The merchandise was still old stuff from last month and I was not happy since they did not have much in my size. Hardly a clearance rack to be found and I went to a NJ Kohls and a NY Kohls. All I walked out with was a 60 x 144 " tablecloth on markdown for $7.74, one of the few Christmas items they had left. My timing was all wrong on this trip. To console myself and use up a $10 reward, I also purchased 2 Godiva chocolate bars, on sale 2/$5. They rang up wrong and it took 5 mins to get this corrected. Just not a good day!
I save D3 20% by looking up a coupon code online when she bought something at Modells. Bobs store had 20 % off any item, but the item was clearly marked $20, rang up for $30 and they had to call a manager to override the amount and the coupon. I saved D3 another $4. At Micheal's we used our phones to get 50% off a skein of yarn and new knitting needles. D1 and I split her order so she could get the best deal. The art teacher taught her how to knit and she enjoys it.
The gas prices went up in NJ due to a tax increase, so I actually can get a better deal on gas in NY than in some parts of NJ. Bummer! OVer the weekend, I spent $63 on gas and am waiting for my EZpass to debit my account. Hopefully, I will just throw another $20 of gas into my tank just to keep it near full for this week. No other trips are planned for the month.

I did well in CVS and pick up 5 packs of cookies, 3 boxes of crackers and 6 clearance granola bars, 2 newspapers and 4 haircare products for $9 and change. Gotta love the ecr and some good coupons. One was even a moneymaker.

I took sack lunch to work for last 2 days, so no spending at all on food. I got one more coke lid from a guy at work yesterday - got it entered right away.

I had just enough time to check out my Dec condo rents before going to work on Sunday. I had forgot to even look at them while I was out of town. I did make a little bit of money, but I also had the yearly cleaning expenses deducted. Anyway, I transferred the bulk of the money to my savings account so that I can get a few cents in interest. My business checking doesn't pay interest, so I don't leave more than I need in there .....

My urgent Monday errands are done now. I had to do a bank deposit into the bill paying account from DH's check (that he cashed while I was out of town.) I also filled his car with gas while I was out and about. DS took my vehicle to work today for a "cleaning day" and I have no idea how long he is staying. When he gets back I will gas up using my .20/gal off from Kroger. In the meantime, I will scrounge up lunch here for myself and finish chores like laundry/housecleaning.... It is windy out today anyway, so it feels a lot colder than it really is. I can just stay in until the weather improves, since I don't have anything pressing to do.

My scrounge it lunch ended up being a quesadilla made with some chicken fajita leftovers that DH left in the fridge. I cleaned some trash out of the fridge as well- stuff that was left in there before I went on my trip last week. My dinner plan tonight is probably just some spaghetti with mushroom sauce - a simple meatless Monday dish.

Tues. and Wed will be something thawed out from the freezer. I have some diced pork that I might do a stirfry with at some point. There is a lot of chicken in the freezer and some hamburger too. I just need to figure out what I want to eat...

DH had to drop his buddy's PC today and we passed by Sam's Club on the way home. I decided to finish the 1stQ 5% CB offer on our two DiscIT cards. That'll give us $75 each, end of this statement and the other $75 will be on our 13th statement. Total earned for our purchases would be $300. Then I'll put them in the sock drawer so I can spread spend on other cards or apply for more sign up bonuses. LOL

DS brought home a gallon of vanilla that was gonna go in the trash at his work. Not sure what I am gonna do with all of that! Any suggestions? He also brought home some bagels and cut up fruit that was left from the employee breakfast. That will at least give us breakfast for tomorrow.

I baked some break and bake cookies that I had here and might make another desert later tonight too.:D

I am off to finish folding laundry - fun and excitement - well not really....
