@M_Lexx I am with you on the cost of Tp. I use the $20 gcs I earn from SBKC to buy my T p. On my last trip to Target I decided tho use my bank bonus G c to buy tp and college supplies for D3. The price was 15.74 for 24 1000 ct rolls of Scott TP, the only kind of tp I can use for my septic tank. I have 3 bathrooms and D3 was given 6 rolls for college. (Tp is scarce there. How sad!)
Sales on paper goods and plastic are ok but not great. If I do not find deals the stores, I order stuff from amazon prime pantry where I use gift cards to pay for it. Better free than $8 for garbage bags. I plan to order some more household items from Amazon next month. I have tried their Solimo brand and it is fine

I agree the deals are not as good as they used to be.

I still have part of my giant pack of Costco TP from Dec, but I may have to buy some more in the next couple of weeks. I did notice yesterday all the TP disappeared from the giveaway shelf at work. I snagged a ziplock of 8 laundry pods since there were still quite a few left over - that stuff has been expensive for a while too..... There was a lonely can of fruit cocktail that nobody wanted - my son will eat it eventually so I threw it in my bag to bring home too.

We all got a $10 food voucher Monday and I used it at KFC/pizza hut for lunch on Tuesday. I got a individual pizza and an big order of hot wings. I had to pay $1.42 out of pocket because it went over the $10. I ate a couple of the wings with the pizza for lunch and brought the rest home to finish off today for a snack or dinner appetizer.....

We had a nice potluck provided by another company in our building yesterday. They were so kind to invite us and there was a ton of extra food! I ate some assorted salads and deserts and made a chili dog to bring home for dinner last night. I decided I was tired and not hungry - ended up going to bed right away. I heated up the chili dog for lunch instead. I finished up some canned peaches that were opened too. (one of the younger guys talked them into giving him a baggie of the leftover muddy buddies to take home - I kinda cracked up that that was what he really wanted out of all the good food there....)

Partial paycheck deposited today and it kinda stunk because they took out deductions times two for both paychecks we missed. I will get a bigger paycheck in about 10 days when the rest of the back pay gets processed. They gave us a straight 40 hours for Christmas week and have not got the holiday pay, shift differentials, and overtime pay done yet..... The logic that payroll had was that some money now was better than none at all. My bills are are paid anyway until next payday, but I am sure some other folks will need to catch up on some things in the meantime.

We got the car dropped of for repairs at an auto shop and picked up a rental this morning. We will only be doing a few errands today and DH goes to work only one day next week, so there won't be a ton of miles on it. We figured that since the insurance is paying for it, it is better to have it than not. DS will need my SUV on Monday to go to school and I don't really think the repairs will be done by then. I am guessing at least a week or more by the time the parts come in.....

Errands today include buying me a new phone cord. I already destroyed the one that I bought on vacation last Sept. and have been using my son's charger the last couple of nights. I also have my $6 office depot certificate that expires today, so I am gonna grab some sharpies or pens or something useful.

We have an incredibly nice weather day here today, unlike most of the country. I already checked Las Vegas for weather for next week when I go. It looked like not too rainy, but the usual mid 50's and windy for this time of year. I have my light coat that I bought used last year and I am also going to leave my winter coat in the car here for when I get home late at night Friday. We will do the usual - leave the car at DH's work after he drops me at the airport with the luggage - he can return by bus in about 30 minutes or so. A little time wasted, but it saves money as the cheapest airport shuttle parking is $8 a day and we would have to pay for 4 full days there. If we still have the rental, I am not worried about it sitting there for 3 days as the parking lot is fenced in and only other employees can get into it anyway.... Out of the 7 meals (lunches and dinners) we will be eating there - I only have two that I want to try out - Gordon Ramsey's Burger and a seafood place I spotted last year. The rest will probably be fast food stuff as that is abundant on the strip as well..... I've got some $5 off coupons emailed from the hotel booking that I have not even looked at yet and I am sure they will have a rack of discount tourist brochures somewhere that we walk past on the day we arrive. We are just gonna grab a taxi to the hotel from LAS as I think it should be about $15 - $18 and that is less for 2 people than the shuttle company at $12 per person. I am so glad that I did not have to cancel my trip....

Got sent home two days in a row from the art school where I work since it operates on county high school schedule but I am a little miffed over having to spend gas and time or wasting both rather.

Yesterday was uneventful, dropped off an order (a lady started an afghan about fifty years ago for her soon to be born daughter and never finished it, the daughter dug it out a while ago and wanted me to finish it for her soon to be born granddaughter, it will be a surprise for the soon to be great-grandmother, mother and the little one), decided to make some dumplings (pierogies-type anyway) and try out the new bread recipe, started out both types of dough. Proceeded to make both today and will probably get more dumpling made tomorrow since the freezer inspection showed two packages of ground chuck and a 3-lbs pack of ground turkey, might as well make as many as I can when I have a little spare time. The four-ingredient bread turned out great although next time I will add more salt to it. Plenty of flour to experiment with general baking.

Debating whether to go to Kroger tomorrow and pick up some of that All laundry detergent or wait until the next deal, I have about ten bags of pods and six bottles of detergent in the basement, writing it down now showed me how silly the idea is, I am sure there will be another deal shortly.

    Hope everybody is warm.

More leftovers for dinner - trying to get the fridge cleaned out a bit..... down to a couple of smaller containers of stuff now....

~ with my $6 at office depot, I got a couple of the systema lunch containers ($2.99 each). Something practical that I will use.

~ I ended up going into Big Lots and found a cheap phone cord, so I never went over to walmart today. I also bought about $10 worth of assorted food bargains that I put in the pantry....

I think I will do some tuna helper for lunch tomorrow - something easy and quick.

I had steamed pork with rice and mixed veggies for my supper tonight with half left over for myself, tonight. My son had half his rice left to where he can make himself fried rice tonight. There is left over peppers and onions that I can reheat for hubbyl and will add steamed mushrooms and steamed yellow squash to it as they need to be used from out of the fridge.

I love those containers that Crystal Light comes in ... they make nice slender one serving holders in the fridge. I put them in the recycle bin when I am done with them.

Tuna helper came out good. I threw some leftover corn right into the skillet for an easy one pot meal.

Went to Kroger and spent $50 on groceries. I got my limit 5 of little smokies and polish sausage for $1.88. Also picked up the Red Baron pizza for $1.99 to put in the freezer. Yogurt, misc small items, and 4 - 12 packs of coca-cola rounded out the cart. I also picked up a couple of the thick grind hamburger that was marked down. I used one to do chili for dinner tonight and the other will get used for something tomorrow. The chili is already in the crockpot on low to get the spices really absorbed by dinnertime.

DS is going to the dentist I use on Tuesday, so we went by to fill out new patient paperwork and get my new insurance info turned in. I am glad we did as it took a while to get that done....I had to reschedule my next appointment anyway since the dentist is going to an out of town conference. On the way, I dropped rent money that I received today at the bank and gassed up the SUV. Errands are done for the day now.....

Weather is still nice so I am going to go do a quick walk around the neighborhood before it gets dark.

This evening, I am booking flights to Florida for next fall. Going to the timeshare at St Pete's Beach again. An easy no brainer to plan as the flights and car rental are all that I need to do. The rest is just relax time at the beach.... Aldi and Walmart are nearby to do my grocery shopping at.

Tomorrow, I am proctoring a college exam and was asked to stay with the student that needs extended time. It works out well if they take the then entire exam, however, some kids decide not to take the exam (do not show up) or leave early. Let's hope the student shows up and agrees to take the entire test.
I worked the last of the boys' varsity game chaperone and have all my time sheets submitted. I am grateful for the chance to earn extra money. While I am not on the list for any other sport, I can cover for anybody that cannot make it.
This past week, I shopped at CVS and WAlmart to stock up on some items I needed. For Ibotta, I am over the cashout threshold and hope to cash out this weekend. It was great to get some gc's to shop with and use it to roll my extra care rewards for more purchases. Luckily, I did well with surveys on a couple of sites and was thrilled to get CVS' gcs from Tango rewards and Fetch rewards. I may shop at Walmart again and purchase weight watchers dinners to make my lunch choices easier and keep within my points. Dieting has not been easy and I need to pay more attention to what I eat.

Back from my trip to Vegas - not frugal at all! Restaurants are expensive there - even the chains are higher than normal prices..... For example, I had a pizza hut combo (personal pizza, breadsticks, drink) for lunch one day and it was $9.09 plus tax. For comparison, at the Denver airport they charge $8.69 and that is a pretty high price compared to in town. We paid $27 for a burger, an order of chicken strips, an a shared basket of onion rings at another place - good freshly made food but pricey for counter service.

Anyway, it was all fun. We came out okay at the casino. I was plus $30 and DH was plus $50 when we left town. We also got 65% off of our show tickets instead of half price because they had a special if you purchased before 11 am... "early bird gets the worm" as the saying goes.....

~found a big deal at Walmart today when I went for eggs. The stove top stuffing (turkey and chicken flavors) and Mc'cormick brown gravy packets were .25 each - no doubt leftovers from the holiday display. I got 8 of each. I also grabbed a couple of cans of cranberry sauce for .50 each. I also looked thru a boatload of marked down bakery stuff and decided on a box that had an odd combination of apple strudels and mexican style cookies (for $1.99). There were lots of donuts and some cinnamon rolls that looked good, but I had already made muffins for work while I was cooking lunch....

~lunch was polish sausage, boxed mac-n-cheese, and canned green beans. All stuff that I had on hand. I am thawing some teriyaki pork loin for dinner and will do rice and stir-fry veggies with it. I have some frozen chicken eggrolls too that I might make tonight.

I am tired today because we got in at 11pm and by the time DH got the car and picked me and the luggage up it was midnight... It took another hour to get home and I threw my laundry in the machine and did a little more unpacking before going to bed at 2 am. I got up about 830 this morning, but I had to wake DH up at 10am. It is going to be rough getting up for work tomorrow morning.... :(

Happy to say that my student showed up this morning and stayed for the entire exam. Not only do I get paid from the testing site, but I get paid from my school for 6 hours of time. I am putting that money aside for a May communion party gift for my cousin's daughter. IT is easier to save ahead of time than get caught short later.

Dinner tonight was all from the pantry or freezer. After splitting a larger pork roast, I made it tonight and it came out great. Crankie will use it for a lunch sandwich and I will probably make some pork fried rice with the leftovers. It will be lunch for me too.
I am debating whether or not to use my Ibotta cash back for WAlmart or paypal. (probably Walmart)
It would be easier for me to bring Weight Watchers dinners for lunch and I can get some free at Walmart with my $25 gc. SAvings catcher from my last receipt earned me .52 cents back. Also ShopRite has some on sale and I can pick some up there too. The stores are within 3 mins of each other so it makes sense to stop in both. I bought some coupons for some free and almost free items from a woman who has online rebate forms. I plan to cash in some of those items when I am out shopping. Monday looks like a good day since they are predicting snow and rain for Tuesday.

My situation has drastically changed in the past week! I'm now a foster mom to a 10 year old boy :) I will eventually get a stipend of some sort, but for now just the day-to-day costs are killing me. Over the counter meds he needs, toothpaste, food, school supplies, etc have caused me to visit HCW multiple times a day, trying to get back in the swing of things. I was easy to shop for and could go without if I didn't have money.

On the positive side, I love him! He's worth every penny. And I LOVE looking for deals, so it's all good.

Another not frugal day - my son is having dental surgery - very expensive....

After dropping him off, I did run into walmart on the way home. I bought some frozen pork tamales for lunch. I have spanish rice to make already in my pantry....

Dinner tonight will be swiss steak and mashed potatoes. I got a big package of cube steaks marked down a little bit - from $10.52 to $8. I am hoping my son can at least eat the potatoes.... If not, I did pick up some soup cans and some pudding for him.... I need to find a good swiss steak recipe online. The McCormick seasoning packets that I used to buy are not in the local stores anymore, so I will just make it from scratch tonight.

~I am still trying to straighten out the budget and bills from the shutdown. I got all the little credit card bills paid already and I paid my remaining Feb utilities. Until everything clears through, I don't want to do any transfers to savings or investments in order to see exactly what is left in my bank account. I did kick in an extra $94 to the mortgage company this week. A little mental trick really, as I owed $10,093 + change and wanted to get it to that 4 figure range just to make me feel like I did something positive..... I am not doing anything else until I see if there is another shutdown on Friday. I will get one more check anyway for work through the 15th, but I don't want to take chances as I have property taxes to pay before the end of this month for both my rental places....

Signed my foster son up for tutoring afterschool (I work where he goes to school), which will give me one hour a week of free time (woo-hoo) and I'll tutor another child for an hour.

Also signed us up for a cooking/nutrition class/how to stretch your grocery class through our school-he likes to cook and you get a free bag of groceries to take home.

My son's dental surgery went okay, but there was an extra $400 on the bill that I have to ask them about! :( Anyway, he was pretty nauseous yesterday afternoon so I made him soup for dinner. The swiss steak got cooked for lunch today but he complained that it was too tough and didn't eat much of it...

Tonight I am making nachos for DH and I with the chili that got tossed into the freezer when we left on our mini vacation last week. I had to buy chips, cheese sauce, and green onion (around $6). I got some shopping done at Costco and the regular grocery store that I have been putting off for a while - $70 out the door today....

~ frugal plan for my next 4 day weekend in April. I booked a short flight to Phoenix and will look around there and in Sedona a bit. The flight was $97 round trip, but I made it free with Chase UR points. Going with American Airlines as a basic economy, so only carry-on luggage for free. I can manage to pack light for 4 days though - it will be warm anyway so shorts and t-shirts will do mostly. I was surprised to find a cheaper fare than Southwest had - at a better time of day for me too. Hotel will either be points or something super cheap like Super 8 or Days Inn. I will try to mostly eat picnic/deli stuff or low cost fast foods.... Car rental for exploring the area will be the most expensive part of the trip. Looking forward to it for sure as I have been wanting to go there for a while.....

Tomorrow I am going to a travel club meet up at a town about 45 minutes away. It is at a brew-pub but I can't drink since I have to drive home, so I guess I will get an appetizer and a water.... Next weekend is the big travel show in town so I will do that on Saturday - I hope that I can get DH to go with me.

I will be spending my bank lunch hour tomorrow calling the hospital billing department to straighten out the mess they have created. Crankie's insurance is quirky since it has one card for hospital expense coverage (blue cross/blue shield) and one card for doctors and tests (emblem health). It is the same ID number on both cards, however, the hospital billing dept flipped the order of coverage and socked me with a bill for $946 when a mammogram should be fully covered. This is why I avoid going to the doctor since mistakes are always made and I have to call to get them rectified. Just once, I would like to see things go smoothly and not have to take time from my day off or a lunch hour to do another person's job. I also have to alert the hospital to use the correct term "modifier" when resubmitting one bill for a sonogram since it seems that if you do a sonogram on both sides, it is rejected as a duplicate. Why, I do not know, but if I did not call and ask, I would still be getting a future bill. UGH!!!!!!!

D3 called in hysterics that they would not assist her with financial aid and placed the blame on her for not doing something online. She went there three times for help and needless to say, nothing was done correctly. When I intervened, of course, they cannot give me any information, since they need d3's permission for them to discuss it with me. I had to call twice to find the correct instructions of what to do when I tried to navigate their confusing website. She is on her way to a track meet and I was finally able to log on the account and find out what she needed to do. It makes me want to scream that they could not walk her through this convoluted process and made her so upset. Just a few clicks of the correct tabs was all they needed to tell her to accept her financial aid awards.

So, the cooking classes got canceled-It's FREE food-you just have to spend 2 hours with your child having fun but only 4 people signed up.

And, we are having an ice/snow day, so no tutoring.

I'm TRYING to make ends meet but it's just not happening. Staying positive-I'm sure something will work out. It always does.

My regular visit to dentist yesterday turned up a need for a filling - more money out the door - I can probably only stall a couple of months on that.... Tooth not hurting so I am hoping it doesn't turn into an emergency anytime soon. Of course insurance only covers a tiny part of that.

~good news is that my coworkers and I are getting another raise next paycheck and this one is a big one! The last time we had to wait 6 weeks for them to get it right so noone is really excited about it until we actually see it on our check....... Really surprised that we got it pushed through - it is related to cost of living so 4 cities across the country are getting the same raise as us. Yep it is expensive to live here if you are renting, but my cost of living has not really increased a bunch over the last few years. I will still happily take the money and add to my savings.:D Only thing that I did notice was that gas went back up again this week.

~ Three weeks later we finally got our car back from the body shop. Turned in the rental and took care of the last of the insurance paperwork that needed done. The shop did a nice job and my car looks good. I've got one place to do a little touch up paint on the hood when the weather is nicer and the car will look practically new again....:D It is running good in spite of the 180k miles on it, so knock on wood that it lasts a couple more years.....

~After getting all the finacial mess/paychecks straightened out from the shutdown, I figure out I could put $237 extra on the mortgage payment next week. That should get me down to $8,500 owed. Getting closer and closer to payoff....

Did not grocery shop today - DH and I went out for lunch on a gift card and paid for a meal out tonight at my travel club meeting.... I am thawing some beef stew meat to make a crockpot soup for dinner tomorrow. Don't know what I will do for lunch.

Since I took a half day off for the dentist visit on Wed, I got some laundry and dishes done and all the trash out before DH got home. It was nice not to have to mess with all that stuff this morning...Tomorrow I will have 1 load of laundry to do, but not a whole lot of anything else.....

Lunch was a frozen burrito with some salsa on it....

I decided to take the beef and do a crockpot version of mushroom soup/beef sauce that I will serve over some already made mashed potatoes....

Just hanging around the house and doing some odds and ends today. It is cold outside again today and I don't feel like venturing out.

The past few weeks haven't exactly been frugal staying in hotel rooms, but we tried to save where we could. My mother was dying and we got there in time to spend the last week of her life by her bedside. You can't put a price tag on that!

Thankfully, the hotel where we stayed -- our favorite -- had a weekly rate so that saved quite a bit of money. Just didn't spend much time sleeping in the bed there or taking advantage of the free breakfast for the first several days.

I had fuel cards earned with Swagbucks and Walmart gift cards which got us additional free fuel at a Walmart with a gas station. We had ARCO cards we purchased on a 4x fuel rewards deal which gave us a couple tanks of gas with no money OOP and also had a $1 off per gallon fuel reward built up which got us gas for $1.11 per gallon in Meridian, Idaho.

We've still got a 40 cent per gallon fuel reward to use by the end of the month. However, since we haven't had time to shop we'll have very little in the way of fuel rewards built up for next month when we have to make another trip to Washington State.

We used up our ARCO gas cards, so aside from a few higher priced stations for which I have Swagbucks cards and Walmart fuel center in Nampa we can use gas cards for, we'll be paying out of pocket next trip. I'm hoping for another 4x fuel rewards event when we get there, since ARCO is about the cheapest gas over there and we can't buy ARCO cards at our stores since we don't have ARCO stations here.

There is a Walmart fuel center on the far side of town where we'll be staying, so we'll have to remember to fuel up if we get over that far.

I had just gotten a package with two roasts when we got the bad news. I had also purchased about nine loaves of whole grain bread at a bakery thrift store.

I had planned to make two separate meals from the roasts, but quickly ditched that idea. We tossed them in the Crock-pot and got one meal from them before we left. We made roast beef sandwiches for the road out of some of the meat, then packaged up the rest and kept it on ice for the trip.

We took a couple loaves of bread with us and had plenty of roast beef sandwiches to eat for a while once we got to Washington. Didn't have much time to dart into a store for ingredients, so that was perfect to have on hand.

Did get a killer deal on a couple cases of yogurt while we were there at Mom's favorite discount store. Cases of 12 yogurts were $1 each. Also got a few salad kits there and some Indian sauce jars for $1 per jar one day. They retail for at least $4 each around here. Still need to figure out what flavors I got, because we were in such a rush I just figured we'd like anything they had and tossed them in the cart. I know there was some chicken korma and butter chicken, but there were also a couple sauces I hadn't ever seen in our local stores before.

We used a Carl's Jr. B1G1 coupon on the way over, and a Wendy's B1G1 coupon along with a 20 percent off coupon for Denny's on the way home. Also found a nice Quality Inn on the way home where we hadn't stayed before. It was $40 cheaper than the Holiday Inn and very nice. We had to stop short of Boise on our trip home, because we were darting between winter storms all the way home and weren't sure about the roads. Many of the roads we traveled were closed again right after we passed through. Various sections of the Interstate were closed several times while we were in Washington, so we had to take an opening between storms when we found one in order to make it home.
