Biography: Born and raised in southern California as the eldest of 6 children (biological, step and half siblings) I met my husband to be in the 10th grade. We started our family young at the tender age of 16 but somehow my now husband Russell and I have fought the odds and have stuck it out and have been together now for 19 years and married 11 years. Together we have 5 beautiful children ages 17 to 4. We moved from CA to VA while my husband served in the Army and upon leaving the military we moved to Wyoming where my husbands mother lives. We enjoy living in Wyoming but are not sure if this state will be our “forever home”. We have plans to perhaps move to Oregon to be closer to Julie for business reasons as well as closer to family in California & Idaho.
How she started couponing: I was always an occasional coupon user. I would clip coupons and then forget to use them most of the time. I thought that generics were cheaper than brand names with coupons. But back in November of 03 I stumbled upon another deal site that had a grocery couponing forum. I do not recall what I was looking for when I found that site but find it I did. I began reading the posts on how to save money on groceries and it immediately clicked for me. I joined the site and the very next day I was dumpster diving for newspapers and putting together a coupon binder. Stockpile pictures posted by the other members were inspiring to me and I was greatly inspired by the pictures posted by my now fellow co-owner hotcouponmama, I just knew that someday I too would have a stockpile and save loads of money. When I began couponing our family was a family of 5 and we were struggling with our monthly budget of $400 to feed our family nutritious food (there was a lot of Hamburger Helper without the hamburger!) and then I found couponing. While my family has added our twins (now 4) and our family is 7 people our budget of $400 a month has not changed. With couponing and stockpiling I am able to make that $400 stretch by 70-80% and most months I have a surplus in my budget for which I can deposit in my savings account, pay a bill, or buy a little extra something for myself or my family.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator:While I am a moderator for 2 forums at Hotcouponworld I am also one of the co-owners and admins as well. I do this job because I genuinely love helping people save money. I enjoy knowing that I helped someone out. And not just helped them do it but taught them how to do it on their own. I feel a kinship to many of my moderators and some of them I would consider friends and I honestly love the online community that we have built here at Hotcouponworld.

How she started couponing: I’ve dabbled here and there in couponing for years, ya know clip a few out of the paper, but leave them at home on the counter with your shopping list when you went to the store, but when I was recovering from my 2nd c-section (and thus housebound during the day when DH was at work) I was browsing through the CVS flyer just for something to do and saw Deodorant was on sale for $1.00. I happened to remember that the inserts that week had a $1.00/1 coupon for that same brand. As we visited friends and family that week to show off the new baby, I was brazen enough to ask them if they were going to be using the coupons from that weekend’s paper. I was able to get 10 inserts that week and scored us 10 FREE deodorants. I was hooked and searched online and the rest is history!
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator: I was a moderator with Heidi and Julie and a few of our other super-mods at another website and when Heidi and Julie told me about their plans to open Hot Coupon World and invited me to moderate for them, I was thrilled and honored to accept. As HCW grew, I was asked to be the Moderator Team leader and began recruiting and training our continuously-growing moderating team. I have since also become an administrator here and enjoy doing even more of the behind the scenes things that make HCW stand out from the rest.

Biography: I graduated from the University of Alabama in 1992 with a degree in Communications. Went to work in Birmingham, and met my dh in 1995. We married in 1998, and my DD was born in 2000. DS arrived 13 months later in 2001, and it’s been a great ride since then. We’ve had our ups and downs but God has directed our path and watched over us every step of the way.
How she started couponing: When the kids were tiny, we were really strapped financially. We had just moved to a new town hours away from any family, and we were making it on one income, toting two house payments. I always clipped coupons, and I was looking through the sale ads one day when it dawned on me — if I can buy one at a great deal, why not buy 3? So I got on Ebay, where I was already buying and selling at the time, and looked for coupons. Sure enough, they were there. I started searching for info on couponing online, and I found a site where they were talking about grocery couponing. Heidi, Julie, Lesley, Larissa and I met on that site years ago, and we’ve hung together since then. It’s been a wild, wonderful, exciting ride and I’ve enjoyed saving money and helping others with these lovely ladies.

Biography: I was born in Chicago and lived there for 21 years, hence the name chitown melli! Which is actually a play on a couple of my nic names I have 8 siblings - we range in age from 27 to 2. Some of my favorite things in life to do are to help people, teach people, cook, and rollerskate ! Yes, rollerskating at my age! I started when I was 10 and never stopped! My younger sister is a fantastic skater and skates at the same rink that I did for 15 years!
How she started couponing: I started couponing when I was a teenager. My grandma had shown me her q stash in the past, and taught me how to use them. My mom was mostly a single parent throughout my life, and it all started when I wanted to have a bottle of Pantene shampoo for myself. I decided when I was 12 years old that the only way I could have anything in this life is to work hard for it. I got a paper route, which turned into 3 paper routes, and I bought myself a paper each week to clip the coupons from, which I used to help buy groceries for my family. I knew I could get more for my money if I used the coupons. Wouldn’t you know, I more enjoyed sharing with my family than buying for myself and I forgot all about that bottle of shampoo until I was like 15 years old!!! I did get it though, and now every year for Christmas, my mother gives me a bottle of good shampoo. I think it is her way of saying that she is proud of me.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator: I decided to sign up to be a moderator because I wanted to give back to HCW, and help people learn how to coupon. The members on this board have been like family to me, and helped me through tough times, and a good family member does their part, so being a mod is what I can do to help out!

How she started couponing: : As a child I remember sorting my mom’s coupons in her coupon box. It was exciting to open coupon-filled envelopes from my grandma and file them away for my mom. I still get coupons from my grandma! I coupon to help stretch our money as far as it will go in the grocery, drug, and mass merchandise stores. It’s fun to see what I can end up with very little out-of-pocket money. I live in the Land of Rare Doubles, so it’s even more challenging to coupon here. I’m always up for a challenge, though. It’s fun to see the cashier’s face when my total is very little.

Biography: I just graduated from College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Accounting. I am currently looking for a job. Until then I am a full time at home mom/housewife. I enjoy couponing, deal hunting, decorating, watching movies, target shooting, and spending time with my family.
Tell us a bit about how you started couponing. My DH was laid off and we were struggling to pay the bills and feed our family. I knew how to coupon at a major level but the first time I tried it, way back in the 90s, I could not get it to work. A segment ran on the news one night and I learned of coupon clipping sites, coupon message boards, and CVS ECBs so I decided to hit the net and see what I could find. I found DAGG and began reading the forums and learning. After a short time, HCW opened and I came with the mods who helped me at DAGG and were very nice to me.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator: I had been posting the Bi-Lo ad at DAGG for a couple of weeks and when HCW opened I began posting the ad here. So after a couple of weeks, I applied to mod Bi-Lo. I also applied to mod Secret Pal since I was thrown into hosting a SP exchange at DAGG when the members left DAGG without notice. I was accepted for both positions. I later began modding Adopt-A-Newbie, Bloom and Hot Under the Collar forums. I had to give up several of my forums due to college but I am now modding Hot Under the Collar and Tell it Like it is.

How she started couponing:I was a casual coupon user for many years. I started couponing heavily in 2004 though I cannot remember the exact catalyst. Perhaps it was when I (quite by accident) learned the commissary policy is to give the full coupon value even if the item is less than the coupon value. I did lots of reading to learn the basics of couponing/stockpiling way of shopping/saving.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator:Even though I’d done lots of surfing to learn about couponing/deals, I never found a forum dedicated to the military commissary deals. When I found the site (from which HCW ultimately spun off from), I proposed the creation of the forum to the owners and it was established. When HCW was born, I jumped at the chance to volunteer as the commissary MOD since that is where I do most of my shopping. I hope the forum is helpful to military members, especially those who have limited shopping choices.

How she started couponing: In about 1963 I was looking through a reader’s digest that had come that day. The first person to read it got to tell the jokes that night at dinner. I found a coupon for a free candy bar. Mom said I could have it, and I walked a mile or so to the store, turned it in, and ate the candy on my walk home. This seemed like a good thing to me, and I started looking everywhere for coupons. The rest is history.

I spent a lot of time in chat, so I started there, and then when a cvs moderator job opened up, I applied, because I have spent so much time studying cvsing that if they offered a master’s degree, I could qualify. How she started couponing: The first time was when I was 16. My mother HATED to go to the grocery store. So she “paid” me to go to the grocery store by how much I saved in coupons. What prompted her to become a HCW moderator? I spent so much time on this site (mostly in the trade forum), so I figure why not! I love to be a part of the team!

Pets: We have 3 dogs and 1 cat. Our oldest dog is a rescue border collie and schnauzer mix. She is a wonderful dog. A 70# dog that hates any kind of noise. Just a big baby. My oldest son has a rescue dog that is mixed labrador and unknown. Beautiful large cream colored dog. Nice disposition. The last dog is my youngest sons beagle. This animal needs the dog whisperer. He thinks he is the boss of the house. Our last pet is a 3 pawed cat name Chloe.
Biography: Hi, I am thickbluebug from Alabama and my family loves vintage volkswagons. We aren’t picky and love them running or dead. We are constantly looking for bugs on our travels.
How she started couponing: I have been couponing since I was 16. I always loved seeing how much people saved using those scraps of paper . I became a hard core rebater/couponer/stockpiler in 07. Researched CVS and the ECB program and found this site by accident.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator: The Short and Sweet version is that I wanted to give back for how much this site has helped me.

Pets: I officially have 3 cats and one cat owns us. We are not allowed to let animals roam without a leash and this cat INSISTS upon going outside (he will pee on my leather couch if he is not allowed), so we do not offically claim him. He also considers me his WOMAN.
Biography: I have been married for 19 yrs. When we were first married husband was an E-3 in the Navy. He hated everyday of it of his 5.5 yrs (thanks to Clinton’s downsizing-he was supposed to do 6yrs). If we only knew how poor we were back then. When he got out we moved in with my parents for 1 yr and he got his old job back and I worked part time at a convience store. Because I can’t do anything halfway, my part time job turned into a full time job and I became manager of the store and worked 60+ hours a week (now you know why they are so crabby!). When I had my 3rd son I quit and started Ebay/Half.com. I have made good money doing that since, and now can add, I save like I never did before. My husband is my biggest cheerleader!
How she started couponing: I was told to either get a job or save some money. I didn’t want to get a job because my family would never see me, so I decided to save money. I started out by couponing and reading up on how to do it properly. I then found CVS and then rebates, my husband (and myself) never knew I could do this well. I am not annoyed with the fact I have wasted so much money for our 19 yrs of marriage.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator: I was asked to be a moderator.

Pets: I currently have two dogs, A Hovawart (German Sheephound) named Silver Bullet, and a black lab named Against the Wind. I also have two cats, a grey and white tiger cat terror named Turn the Page and black fluffy sweetie named Night Moves that found us last year. (Bob Seger Puppy, that started it all, Like a Rock, and Seger’s Hollywood Nights have all passed on.)
Biography: I ‘m a SAHM to my three munchkins, they keep me hopping. I like to scrapbook, or rather just collect scrapbook supplies. (LOL) I’m also into photography when I have time, which is usually never. I’ve dabbled a bit in professional photography but never got into the business aspect of it.
How she started couponing:I was on a scrapbooking message board participating in a Dave Ramsey class, and someone recommended HCW. That was all it took. I went from not couponing to couponing in 1.7 nanoseconds. I started out with just CVS and then graduated to saving money in all aspects of our lives.
What prompted her to become a HCW moderator:Well I was a hardcore CVS-er, and the forum grew immensely and became too much for one person to keep up with, and Kim (cuzisaidso) asked me to become a moderator. I thought “why not?” and here I am. I had NO idea what I was getting into that fateful day LOL.
