New From CA -- where have you been all my life?

I'm over 50, living on a fixed income and caring for a disabled vet.

I've only used coupons here and there. I've heard all the stories about outrageous savings but always thought that it was a freak thing or it took an enormous amount of time. But after reading on this board I see there can be savings.

I'm not sure how much savings -- none of our stores has double coupon days and most if not all coupons are one per item. Our local markets seem to have good prices, but I know we can do better.

The coupons in the local paper are pitiful. I used to clip them to send to my daughter who lives in the Midwest but they refused them saying they were encoded for use in CA only. I had never heard of that but if they say so.

I'm not sure what I'll find but I'm going to study what others are doing to see where I can save as well.

Tips and pointers always welcome.

Thank you all I'll be reading this for a while. In the meantime I've been out printing coupons and getting organized for a trip to the grocery tomorrow. I won't be saving $50 but anything is good these days.

Cereal is $6 a box???? Just yesterday it was 99 cents -- guess I'm showing my age. ;)
