Default New Weis stores opening in NY, questions?

Our local grocery chain, Giant Markets, in upstate NY has just been bought by Weis and will be converting within the next few months. I have mixed feelings about it. The closest Weis was about 35 miles away, and I made the trip occasionally for really good deals, but there were always "issues". Is this something I will have to deal with regularly, or do you think it was just that particular store? Overall, how happy are you with Weis, their products, prices, sales, and customer service? I do look at their ad regularly, and it seems like they have alot of great sales, or nothing...

i love my weis, but the employees make the store. customer service people who genuinely want to help you and checkers who love to see someone saving $$ with coupons, stockers who will help you locate fresh veggies or check to see if there is more sale products in the back.
the sales are good and the published coupon policy is good (doubles all the time at all the stores that i've heard of). you will want to determine if your store has any particular coupon policies that are ymmv - two coupons on b1g1, raincheck amounts and coupons on rainchecks, number of like coupons per trip, etc.
another thing to check is if they have self checkouts. sometimes things will work there (with you putting in the coupons for the first 10% savings) that a cashier will question, even if you're correct. of course, then you need to have nice customer service if you're saving a bundle because they will have to help you finish up the coupons after that first 10% savings.
i hope that helps, i love my store, but i really never go to others in the chain except via everyone's comments on this board.

I think Weis has some really good deals. But I agree with Sherig. It sure does depend on the cashiers / managers, etc. When you get somebody who monitors things closely like the $ is coming out of their pocket, it's not so fun. But when you get others who like to see you save, it's great. I think it's like any other store.
Some of the Weis stores allow more of the same like Q. Mine only allows 4. However, my store allows 2 coupons on B1G1 deals and other stores do not. My store is having problem with bogus internet Qs so that is a little source of contention right now for them. They take them, but scrutinize a little more.
So, maybe take the coupon policy off of the web with you the first time in case you need backup. But give them a call and see what they have to offer.
Oh, I also like their web page. When you look at the ad on line, you can click on items, add them to your shopping list, manage the shopping list (it will put the items in order for you based on sections), print it etc. Many web sites have this option, but I like the Weis one....
There are also a lot of weekly Qs for $10/$50 purchase in the different newspapers if they are available in your area (like the Baltimore Sun). That's always a help!
Happy shopping!

I love my Weis most of the time. I've shopped there almost exclusively the last few months. I love that my store accepts the high value Qs from the other area papers.
