Hey thanks for mentioning home health agencies as a place to donate. I always run across patients that need them and don't have the money to buy them.
OVERAGE at Walmart alert !
In the 1/6 V2 inserts, there were $20 off OneTouch monitor coupons :
Onetouch Blood Glucose Monitoring System, any $20.00/1 Exp. 4-30-08 ~ Insert 1/6 V2
They sell for $18.82 at Walmart...
And since Walmart gets the full $20 redemption, they deduct the full $20.
{It's a policy, I've contacted corporate about it}
So, that's $1.18 overage.
**I'm pretty sure they tax the monitors...
BUT -
whether or not YOU are charged that tax, depends on *how* your cashier rings up the transaction.
If she SUBtotals BEFORE coupons, you will be accountable for the tax.
If she SUBtotals AFTER coupons, there will be no tax charged.
If they do tax you, the overage may eat up the tax and you can get them for FREE.
If they don't tax them, then enjoy the overage!
Purchase other items :
Milk, bread, eggs, ALL YOU magazine(s) (for the coupons!), Sunday paper (for insert coupons!) or other food/hba items {"coupon-matched items", of course! lol} along with the monitors so the other items will eat up the overage and give you less hassle at the checkout.
It's always checkout drama if they have to PAY YOU for taking items out of their store. LOL
{Trust me, I know!}
But anyway - (aside from CVS) it's a good way to get FREE glucose monitors for those who need them or know of someone who needs them.
If you don't need them or no of anyone who needs them...
DONATE THEM!!
As long as you don't open/tamper with the box/monitor...
You can select a Donation site nearest you.
Some suggestions are :
Red Cross
Salvation Army
Home Health Care office
Nursing Home
Elderly Care Facility
Assisted Living Facility
Adult Group Homes
**The monitors are a bloodbourne pathogen item - so extra precautions are taken when donation sites accept/deny your donations of monitors.
So, please don't feel offended if a particular donation site denies your offer.
They have to put health & safety FIRST.

**For those of you who itemize on your taxes, or think you may need to in 2008 (expected high medical bills?, upcoming surgery? new diagnosis?, etc.)....
Be sure to get a *tax receipt* from your donation site (if they offer one).
You can include your "Charitable Contributions" in your itemizations on your tax forms.

In Florida the monitors are not taxed. Thank you for the info . I did not think about going to Wal-Mart
I was just looking at this coupon and this new one says "Limit one coupon per person" in the fine print.

WISH LIST
I just tried to get Aleve the other day at WM for $1.99 & was going to use my $2 Q. It didn't take my Q, so I went to customer service. She told me it wouldn't take my Q since the Q was worth more than the item. I wonder if this is a YMMV thing?
I got my dad the monitor at WalMart this week. The q beeped and the cashier adjusted it so no overage. I also ad matched the Peter Pan peanut butter for $.88 and used the $1 q. She told me she wasn't suppossed to give me the whole dollar but she wasn't worried about $.12. She is also a nice cashier that I go to frequently. I guess it is the amout of the overage and the mood of your cashier. I have done several that were just a few cents over with experienced cashiers and not had a problem. I guess it is a YMMV situation.
I agree that it seems to be YMMV. I've never been denied overage at my Walmart but I know that others have said they never get overage.
Does anyone know if these come with any strips?
My mom can't afford the strips, she was SO happy when I gave her a Contour system I had received in the mail and there was a small container of strips as well.
TIA![]()
One touch does not come with strips.
I used one of these today. No overage. The cashier tried to ring in the full $20 and it kept saying amount too high. When he rang in the shelf price it worked just fine. I'm good with just paying tax though.
Now I need to get back to my doctor and see about a prescription for some test strips. I had a prescription before so that I could monitor my gestational diabetes and since I also have hypoglycemia its best to keep tabs.
