Walmart is notorious for putting that Pumpkin Bread kit in the with clearance but never marking it down- same thing happened to me last year. I think they purposely try to trick people and hope they don't pay attention to the price it scans.
Thanks for letting me vent. The hubby just doesn't understand the severity of the situation, so I had to come share with people who (hopefully) do.
A couple of months ago I traded for a few coupons for the off chance that I could get some deals after Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Tonight I went to the WM Christmas section for the first time since Christmas. Mine still has TONS of stuff. Got some dog toys for the pup for .25, a candy jar for 2.50, a Febreeze set for 2.50 (you know, the one with the 10.00 magazine rebate thing), Wilton pans for 4.50, and some misc. decorations.
THEN! I get to the last aisle which is the candy and food aisle. 75% signs everywhere. Low and behold, 20+ of each of the 2 items I traded coupons before and some Jello. Oh, I was excited. Would look a little somethin' like this:
Libby's Pumpkin Bread Kit 4.98 - 75% - .50 Q = .75 each
(2)Pillsbury Cookie Mix (Peppermint) 1.88 - 75% - 1.00/2 Q = .06 overage on 2
(2) Peppermint Jell-o .68 - 75% - .55/2 Q = .21 overage on 2
The cookie mix didn't expire until 2013, and the Libby's Pumpkin Bread some time at the end of 2012. I headed to the scanner to check the prices, and they rang up regular price. WHAT?! So, I went and asked the manager if they could honor the 75% off since it was clearly holiday and clearly marked 75%. Well, they couldn't. Bummer.
End rant. Thanks for listening!
**EDIT** So, I went back this morning, determined! Haha. Since I was dealing with the night shift last night and the actual store managers and supervisors weren't around, I went back this morning. I loaded my buggy and headed for checkout.
Of course, they were still ringing up full price. She told me "actually, they are ringing up 50% off, just not 75%". I said, that would make this cookie mix almost 4.00 originally, the icing 3.00, and the pumpkin bread 7.50. These are still full price. I asked her to speak to the manager, and the manager gave her the ok to mark it all down 75%. So, she starts putting in the codes and they come down 66%, so she had to go get a calculator and correct it all. She finally gets all of the prices correct, and then I break out the coupons. Oh, she was NOT happy. Haha. She told me she was unable to use the coupons on markdowns. I told her I was pretty sure there is no coupon restriction on clearance items. Then she went into her big long speech about how she wasn't risking her job for me like I was some big con artist. I asked to speak to a Supervisor, who okay'd the use of the coupons.
45 minutes later, I had the following for .19 + tax = 1.xx.
(16) Peppermint Jell-O
(2) Peppermint Frosting
(12) Peppermint Cookie Mixes
(4) Pumpkin Bread Boxes
And now the local Baptist Association has it all because I didn't even want it in my house after all of that!
Score: Me-1 Walmart-0.

I love bargain shopping!
I had a situation just last week where I got picked up the last of the fall waverly plates from 2010 that they still had..and they had marked down. I get to the cash register and they had priced them more then they marked at the clearance area..AND more then then even the regular priced 2011 Fall waverly plates were priced. So I told him to take them all back off. So he marked them back down to what I though was the price they should be
I really didn't see much in clearance this year..boo Hiss that impressed me. There loss!

Stupid pumpkin bread! Ha. :) Oh well- win some, lose some! But it makes me mad that they can't honor the clearance price when there are 20+ in the spot with a tag RIGHT there. It's not like it was a couple that were out of place.
The best score was the .25 dog toys. Medium sized ropes, balls, squeaky toys. Got several for my pup, and several to donate to the shelter.
WOw I want .25 dog toys I will check mines later today.
I am sorry about the pumpkin bread kit. That is not right that they would not honor it being in the 75% off section.I would of made a big fuss. I think its falsely makes someone get and just assume they getting a clearance price. But you did point out how I should always check the prices and not assume because they are there they are marked down.

I currently have: "Sweet Pea & Vanilla" in my Scentsy warmer.
if you've got a camera phone...snap a pic of the clearly marked markdown and send it to the Att. general in your state.....if it's posted they have to honor it....at least in WI they do! but of course you need proof or it becomes a he said ,she said thing
This. I catch Walmart so continually, that I have to watch the scanner (and this is at every one I go to) that I don't even leave the store until I've checked every item and supposed discount.
Yesterday, I was at Tops (an East coast chain), and they had 50% baskets out of Christmas stuff, including the Ziplocks with the Gingerbread men on them, AND I had coupons. I decided to get some more, and when I came back around the asst. mngr. said they were NOT on sale, and took them out of my basket. She told me to come back on Sunday when everything goes to 75%!! I always do better at Tops and Wegmans than Wally. But I never catch their scanners in BS as I do at Wally, and they don't bait and switch.
