Default Refusing to accept coupons over the cost of product..has this happened to you?

I had a couple coupons today that would give me an overage, though I suspected they might refuse to give me an overage, which I could understand. Though the walmart coupon policy says they'll give you that money..but that's another issue. However, the cashier refused to bring it down to the amount of the coupon! For example..I had a $2 off coupon for a pack of razors. The razors were priced 1.97. They would not take the coupon at all. I could understand if they wouldn't let me have the 3 extra cents, but they wouldn't take it at all. It REALLY p*ssed me off. Especially since I'd spent $430 on tires at Walmart earlier in the day. I'm calling the store to speak to management in the AM. If they tell me this is correct I'm raising hell.

YES this happened to me at my local wal mart. I ended up leaving the store then going home and emailing the corporate office. The store manager had the nerve to sit there and argue with me about it. The coupon said no cash value if the coupon exceeds the price of the item. However Walmarts coupon policy states that the overage will be given in the form of cash back OR applied towards the remaining items in the cart. So while I couldn't have been given cash back the overage should have been applied to my cart. After I contacted corporate I was issued a 16.00 dollar refund from the store and the manager wont even look at me.

I called the store and talked to a CSM this morning and she said I should have been allowed to use the coupon AND been given the overage! So I went in and got the items (and a few others they had been out of the night before). Took forever but that's wasn't their fault. Anyway at least it got taken care of. I had been going at night to do my coupons thinking it was more polite to the other shoppers..but now I think it's worse cause no one knows what to do.

are you saying Walmart no longer takes coupons that over the amount of the item at all? I mean do they still take it if your overage goes towards your other items?

Luv Savings..that is what the cashier in the middle of the night told me..but the CSM in the morning confirmed that they do take coupons over the amount, and give you the overage. I don't know if they'd actually give you money back..but they'll at least apply to the other things purchased. It states they will do that in their corporate coupon policy.

They are supposed to always take the coupon as long as you are purchasing the correct item (and we are not speaking of one per transaction/4 per shopping trip bla bla bla issues) regardless of the overage issue unless it's an IP and it doesn't scan. If it's an IP and doesn't scan they have the right to not take the coupon.

Now as for overage. If the coupon creates overage and you are paying for it in anyway other then WIC or foodstamps, you are allowed to get it in cashback unless the coupon prohibits it in it's wording. If it prohibits it in it's wording..you need to buy something else to eat up the overage.

If you are using WIC or Foodstamps...you always need to make sure you have something to eat up the overage (and in most states WIC is awfully hard to get overage).

**Please note..that if you walk into Walmart and are always demanding loads of cash back from loads of overage you will stick out like a sore thumb...I highly suggest you blend in. When you get stuff that eats up your overage your cashiers tend to not grow three heads, and don't feel like they are going to be written up, fired ect..**

To the OP...You sure found a winner Jeez what a jerk. I'm glad Corp was able to straighten it out for you. P.S. I had one exactly like that too. That was one of the two reasons I have ever called corp too.

Well luckily I did not have to call corp..the CSM in the morning fixed it for me. It was the cashier at night who wouldnt' let me use it, and I wasn't sure of the policy myself, so I didn't argue it (too much). But now that I know I'm prepared if it happens again.

Oh and I never try to get cash back..I just keep getting enough things til it uses up the overage. When I went today I got about 10 items and paid $2ish for it. I don't want cash back either, I want to blend it.

Also, I was very nice when I spoke to the CSM about it. Even though I was upset when it happened, I knew it wasn't her fault and didn't want her to hate all couponers or anything. So I just politely explained what happened, and she fixed it for me. Very civil. Granted, if she had refused to let me use the coupons, I would have called corporate. But I saw no reason to get b*tchy straight off. People like you better that way.

As a Walmart employee here is the advice that I can give you. Don't waste your time calling the managers at the store level, call 1-800-Walmart (925-6278). This is the corporate line, trust me they have heard (not to mention fired people) over a lot less. Where I don't agree with individual store going against the corporate coupon policy and denying overages, corporate is not going to care too much, although they will care if associates are costing them sales due to going completely against the coupon policy. Even though you got the situation fixed with a CSM, I would call. This has been taking place in my store as well, and customer complaints are the only way that more training in this area. Not to mention that they will probably give you a gift card for the trouble.
On a separate note, you said you bought tires from them. I used to be a Support Manager for Tire and Lube Express, what kind of tires did you get?

Ok thank you I was there last week and I had an overage and I also had other items so it was applied to what would have been my oop to bring it down. Reading this post I thought maybe between then and now they say sorry that item was only .98 cents and this is a 2.00 coupon we cant take it. Just wanted to double check before I make my next trip tomorrow to walmart because again I'm going to have an overage to bring the items I don't have coupons for down on my oop
