QUESTION Price Matching produce & meats @ Walmart

Do any of you price match meats & produce at Walmart?

I just received an email from a site visitor, she is not yet a member, and she let me know that the best deals she gets are her price matches for meat & produce at her local Walmart.

I have never thought of it myself, even though its in the PM policy, but then again, I am not a big price matcher. Guess I should get on that

She said the reason she saves so much, is that in her DFW area of Texas, there are a lot of small grocery stores that cater to certain ethnic foods, have printed ads and a ton of great deals on meats and produce each week. She prints the ads online.

I thought this was a pretty good idea and am sure plenty of you do this already but others, like me, have been missing out :)

I have a few grocery stores that are close enough to shop regularly, but I often skip them because they are far enough away that it is not always worth my gas. Looks like I will be using their ads @ walmart.

Wondering what everyone best pricematch deals are?

QUESTION re: Price Matching produce & meats @ Walmart

    Hi,

Yes, I PM Aldi Foods and other stores (grocery and ethnic stores too) all the time at Walmart. We have a farm so we produce our own meats and produce so I don't PM meats or much in produce except grapes, citrus, or bananas. We live in N VA area so there are alot of ethnic stores--PM spices, baking needs, etc. too.

    Good luck--

    Foodie (Katie)

Okay it gets a little sticky with printing the ads online.

    Here is the policy:

We gladly match the price in the following types of ads:*

    • Buy one, get one free ads with a specified price
      • Example: Buy one for $2.49, get one free (BOGO)

    • Competitors' ads that feature a specific item for a specified price.
    • Preferred shopping card prices for specific items that are in a printed ad.
    • For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)

*The following are guidelines and limitations:

    • We will match any local competitor's advertised price.
    • We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad.
    • Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.)

We DO NOT match the price in the following types of competitor ads:

    • Items that require a separate purchase to get the ad price
      • example: "Buy [item A] to get [item B] for $C"

    • Items with no actual price that require a purchase to get free product
      • example: "Buy both [items A & B] to get [item C] for free"

    • Items that require a purchase to get a competitors' gift card
      • example: "Buy [item A] to get a $B gift card

    • Buy one, get one free (BOGO) ads with no actual price given
    • Going out of business or closeout prices
    • Percentage off
      • example: "All mascara, 40% off"

    • Competitors' private label price promotions

    We do not honor:

    • Ads when the actual price for items cannot be determined.
    • Internet pricing
    • Misprinted ad prices of other retailers
    • "Going out of business" sales or "close out" prices

By the way they word their policy they don't price match "internet pricing" yet they don't make you have the ad....yet trying to ad match without the ad....tends to be REALLY HARD. I would contact your local store and see if they tend to have the other local ads there. Also you can call the other local stores and see if they will mail you the ad each week. Third I would maybe just speak with one of the upper management at your store and have him clarify "internet pricing" and have his take on it. You could tell him you will be doing this each and every week....will they have the other ads their and if so...where will they be?

You never know..they might have a copy each week anyways (they are supposed to). Then just print yours off..which will make it easier to ad match for your sake (making sure it's the exact same size/product ect)...but have them use their copy to actual do the "ad matching".

Also I want to mention...because most blogs that are showing ad matching for Walmart are posting that you can ad match any price of a produce for produce. So They are saying That if Aldi's peaches are .29 cents each and Walmarts are $1.99 a lb..then Walmart will ad match it. AND that is not true..and lots of cashiers at walmart do not understand this.

For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)

It has to be ad matched in the same unit. So if Aldi sells it by the pound...walmart has to sell it by the pound to ad match it. If Aldi sells it by the cents...walmart has to sell it by the cents..to ad match it. Ect.

    My thoughts
Competitor's Ad's is what the policy says, I"m sure my store would say my local Cuban market is NOT their competitor, so they would not match it.

Also, isn't the meat all pre packaged at Walmart, into certain sized packages like at Super target. They would have to call someone from meats to re weigh it and re package it? I'm sure they would not accomplish that at the cashier!

You would be surprised...they are really getting quite liberal in what they are considering a competitor. About the only stores I have heard no are close out stores (although Big Lots seems to be okay now), dollar tree (and other stores that sell all stuff for a $1) and stores that only sell online.

For the meat...if hamburger is being sold for $1.99 a lb. at xyz store and at Walmart it's being sold pre packaged at $2.08 a lb in various packages...then you can price match that. So they will look at the lb and price match it that way....and then do the math.

Actually, the register does it for them. They can type in a different price per lb. on packaged meat.

I was about to put what WalAva already did. My sister works up there and there would be people that would want to price match to an ad that doesn't list a brand on it to a branded one there in the store.
WalMart's stand behind that is that they don't know what brand it is first off, but also they can't compare the quality between the 2 as well. Who knows if it's the market deal for the week that they picked up or a high quality product? At least that's how she explained it to me.

My store doesn't have that much selection on meat

sorry hamburger? there is hamburger or hamburger or hamburger. the only choices are rolls or patties or the mounds and of course the 80/20 70/30 ect. but there isn't a higher quality hamburger and walmart is deluding themselves to think there is.

Anyone having this problem price matching meat...go to corp and email them. If Walmart's wants to make an exception then they should of put it in there corp ad match policy.

I never tried to pm meats, but I have done produce, matching to Aldi or Bottom Dollar. It's not that I love Walmart's produce more than the other stores, but sometimes it's just more convenient to get to Walmart.
