QUESTION WALMART How exactly do you do the whole pricematch thing?

    Hi,

I want to start doing the pricematch thing at walmart. I am armed with the coupon policy, the ads, and the distance of the stores from that store just in case.

Do I tell the cashier before they ring up the item, or after? Should I, before they start ringing anything at all, say "I have some price matches" or something? How exactly do I do this whole thing?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I read another thread that said that they separate the price match and non price match into two separate transactions to make it a bit easier. I'm going today and i'm armed with all of the same you have and I plan on telling the cashier at the start of the first transaction so that they will be ready, from what I understand they have to key in the value for each item. I hope they aren't mad at me, lol.

I have been doing this for a looooong time and the #1 thing I've learned is ORGANIZATION! Seems silly but it makes life way easier....First, I usually make my list and each entry goes like this:
Item then Price I am matching and then where I found that price so for example:
Colgate Toothpaste 4.0 oz $.99 Dillons
Then when I get up there to check out I simply say "I have coupons & I am price matching"! As the checker scans each item, I tell her the price match and where I got it from....Last, I give her my coupons. I always watch each item and coupon getting entered just in case something doesn't get entered correctly.

I have also learned that when we shop (my husband and I both go) it does take longer because we also check the generic prices (i.e. great value) to make sure we are getting the best deal! Sometimes WM already has the price lower than your price match.
The only thing I ever have any issue with is people waiting in line but I always tell them I am slow because of coupons/price matching and some are more than happy to wait while others go to another lane!
I have never been asked for my ads but I do take them just in case...I also take the coupon policy~ Its been well worth it, I can say for sure that we have drastically cut our spending on food! GOOD LUCK!!!!

I try to do my price matching last.

You need to tell them before the ring it up.

"I want to price match the Mountain Dew 2 liter. It is .99 cents at Walgreens"

show ad (not necessary...but I would bring it anyways)

Then do what they do. Done.

I always seperate the items first in the cart and place the ad with the items I want to PM. It makes it a lot easier for everyone and saves time. One of the cashiers (who I taught a little bit of couponing too) mentioned how she appreciates it when you seperate the PM items out with the ad. She had a lady PM items after everything was scanned and she had to void them out and reprice and it was a nightmare. Happy PM'ing

Alright so i'm back. This. Takes. Forever.

So I did separate my cart one side PM the other non PM. When I got to checkout I picked a LOOOONG line as to deter anyone from getting behind me in case it took a while. This sweet patient old woman did get behind me and I told her I might take a while and the cashier insisted it would be quick...

So i'm glad I brought my print ads because she said that they require them. When I advised her that their policy online says that you don't she said that they (I guess managers) want to ensure that the quantity and sizes are accurate. No issue for me I brought all my ads and had my list in order by store and what item was on which page...but I didn't set up my cart that way! GRRRR!!!!

So it did take a while, but with my PMing and coupons I think with the amount of stuff I got I saved a good $60 easy.

Is Wal-Mart the only store that price matches?

In my area Walmart is cheaper for 95% of stuff so I would end up price matching pretty much everything if I went elsewhere... and Walmart is the only place in my area that will do overage.

Here's a list of stores that pricematch:

    Bed, Bath & Beyond
    Best Buy
    Home Depot
    Kohl’s
    Lowe’s
    Office Depot
    Office Max
    Sears
    Staples
    Target
    Walmart

I did some Kroger mega price matching at WM yesterday, and threw in an HEB PM along with it (needed a "when you spend $10" to go along with it)! I think I found my new favorite cashier! (All of them have been nice but, this one was friendly, too!) -- I did that in one order, then took it out to the car. (Luckily, no cold stuff!)

Then, did a non-mega PM on a couple of other items in my next transaction.
I just find it's easier for me to do in groups like that, if I'm getting quite a few things. Like a PP, I make list, write prices, Qs, final price, and store matching with (but, I'm "anal" about that, anyway).

I'm NOT an ECr, so I still had oop, but that's fine ...
I'm "old school" -- I just can't conceive the idea of shopping, giving Qs, then THEY give ME $$. One of those "there's something wrong with this picture" things to me (even though I UNDERSTAND the "why" of it)! I always put any overage to my basket purchase!

I think I've figured out what "my" store means by "store coupons" ... somehow, they think they're getting reimbursed for the Target coupons (WITH barcodes), although I tried to explain they weren't
BUT, I DID discover that "my" store only accepts competitor store Qs that have a barcode ... good to know! I wasn't able to get my 4lb Imperial Sugar for 99˘ because of that, but I found out they (or at least this cashier) will PM stores I thought were out of the area. -- Works for me!! (and, I wasn't going to drive the extra 15 miles to go get the 99˘ sugar from the advertised store ... not worth it)

Hardest thing for me to remember is rule about 20 and 40 Qs (or Q value?) in order (something like that). For now, I just tell the cashiers I don't have that rule down yet, and hope I don't mess up!

Worse things about WM so far, are:
1-nobody there seems to "understand" that I DO have an "assigned" parking space up near the door ... they seem to think it's for them! (Dang Kroger)
2-LACK of Coupon blinkies, tearpads, etc. -- IF I find a peelie or hangtag, I consider myself lucky
But, considering ECrs seem to have been ripping whole tearpads, it probably wouldn't matter (blankin' show).

Thank you folks for keeping this board running! Never thought I'd be a fan of WM, but (dang) Kroger has me becoming one (although we really gotta discuss my parking space!!)!
