First time using multiple coupons at walmart.....very time consuming lol

Well I usually save my coupons for the grocery store in the area that doubles, but walmart is practically across the street frore me, so I stop there usually only for necessities. Decided to used a few of the higher value coupon there since they cannot be doubled anyway, and make a trip of it. Half of the things I wanted to get were not in stock, or they simply did not carry because it was a newer product. Ok, not mad, got some good deals and ready to get rung up and go. Very loooong lines for 10 pm. Finally got to the counter, cashier rung everything through. I then handed over my coupons and the cashier insisted on searching for every single item as she got to the coupon, pulling it out of the cart, and comparing it to the coupon, for each and every item! Of course everything matched up because I do not misuse coupons and wouldn't have a clue even how to do that. I would not have minded except for the poor people in the long line behind me!Now if she scanned the coupon and it beeped, of course I would expect her to locate the product for a match. But each and every one before even attempting to scan it? Now i know why the lines are so long every time I go in for one or two things

Walmart seems to think we are out to steal or something, same thing happened to me but at target lol. Oh well, it all worked out fine in the end, the lady said to me ' a bit of advice, if you ever come through my line, give me the coupons first', so she don't have to pull everything out' lol. i felt i was being scolded and said yes ma'am lol

Glad yours went well, and even though they had to wait, there is nothing we can do but tell them, 'this may take awhile', thats what we did lol.

Yep, the clerks are really scrutinizing the coupons lately. I went through the quick check at a local grocery store. I had 6 items and 2 coupons. One was for $5.00 off of meat when you bought a 12-pack of Blue Moon. The clerk said, "You bought chicken" I said,"Isn't chicken meat?" Good Grief, then he had to physically take the package out of the bag and make sure I paid more than $10.00 for it which were the terms of the cpn. No prob, buy why not just review the receipt on the register, why dig through my bag? Whatever, the quick check was not so quick that evening! Especially since it took him a REALLY long time to read the fine print on the q! What was funny was that it was a q on display at the store! I hadn't planned on buying the beer or the chicken until I saw that q!

Today my cashier was a couponer who had the ability to get oop down to less than a dollar. Much easier check out. She knew what she was doing and what she was seeing.

Part of the reason she was probably scrutinizing is because they get written up or similar when they take a coupon they are not supposed to.

Luckily most of the time I get a cashier that see what they are scanning and knows ...I got xyz item, so obviously the xyz coupon for it is fine.

Last trip to walmart: because I had a lot of coupons, I put them directly on the item as I loaded it on the conveyor and that seemed to help the cashier a lot. Saved her from digging stuff out of the bags after she scanned it and she seemed to be really appreciative.

Especially if I have freebies, I put them on top and point them out to the cashier at the beginning of the order anywhere I shop at ... I am finding this really speeds things up at the checkout...

Thank you!! This is exactly what I logged on to HCW to write! I do not understand why they are so afraid to scan the coupon and insist on locating each item before they scan it. Today in particular I went to two Walmarts since the first was out of some things I needed. Anyway, the first cashier scanned everything and dropped my stuff in the bags. Then I hand over the coupons (I don't really like giving it to them first because I did that once and *somehow* magically a few high values were no longer there when the cashier went to scan them). This cashier today, not only compared the items with the coupons BUT read the coupons with such intensity I don't know what she was even reading. It was a very basic simple coupon no restrictions no sizes or anything it said ANY _____. Anyway, I asked her if I could do anything to help. She replied, "you already did giving me all these [coupons]!" So I took a deep breath and thought ok that's fine. Well, this went on for so long and she spread these coupons out so much that the line behind me got mad and one guys says to me "lady, if you are trying to save a dollar or TWO, HERE ARE TWO DOLLARS???" literally yelling at me from the end of the line. I answered, "No NOT 2 but FIFTEEN!!!!!!" I continued "if you would like to give me 15 DOLLARS I will gladly go without the coupons." He shut up about me and now was on to the cashier saying loudly how she needs to learn how to read. Well you have to understand that that is somewhat of a real problem here in South Florida. English was not this cashier's first language but of course there is no reason to be mean about it. (and no it wasn't Spanish either, then I could have helped her understand. It was Creole that was her first language) Mind you this was a regular lane not express or anything even though I had just a few items. It turned out that she put her lane light to flash and two managers come over and ask her what the problem is... she can hardly explain to them her concern. They looked at the coupons and RECEIPT (not the items in the bag!) for a few seconds and both said there are no restrictions so go ahead and scan them.

The next Walmart I had more items (luckily they had things in stock there) and my coupons were for higher values. I went to a regular lane got an older lady who scanned it all bagged it AND simply scanned the coupons! She was not afraid so it was smooth! Honestly I think that there is a fear about coupons with some cashiers. She even joked am I going to owe you money, I joked back no, I am not that good plus I can't do anything about tax unfortunately She laughed. It was a great transaction. I guess what I am saying besides my earlier vent is that you never know what you are going to get and they might surprise you either in a good way or a bad way. At the end of the day, it was worth it all for my family.

I wondered why it took so long to get through the lines myself, but after reading this and thinking about it, I can't say I blame them-- I wouldn't want to lose my job over scanning incorrect coupons!

Being as I'm good friends now with the overnight Cashiers at walmart...

At some walmarts, they do threaten jobs if cashiers take the wrong coupons consistently...so I dont blame them for checking. As long as they don't give me some nasty look for using coupons (and yes, i've gotten them at walmart Before)

now, If you are aware of their coupon policies, and dont have to call a manager every time you go through the line (e.g. over $40 in coupons)... I've generally not had any problem getting through walmart lines with coupons

I had one of my "regulars" get nervous yesterday. Seems one of the cashiers got yelled at about coupons. So she was saying they could only take a total of 6 coupons. So they had to go and get both csm's and call to the back. They manager told her to look at the policy by the register. Policy is still what it always was. Twenty minutes for nothing. But I kept calm. Told them I understood. I follow the rules (theirs and the manufacturers) and don't want to get anybody in trouble.
