Unfortunately, no...
It's NOT stated in ANY "written" policy ... none that we can print anyway.
I was having issues at my Walmart years ago about coupons... so it prompted me to call Corporate.
I talked with Corporate for a good 45 mins.. asking about how they submit coupons for reimbursement, etc..
They don't use "bean counters" ...so they are reimbursed the full face value of the coupons.
So, I asked :
Since you get reimbursed the full face value of the coupon...
If an item is .78 and I have a coupon for $1.00 off... and your cashier alters the deduction to only deduct .78...
...isn't it a form of theft/fraud?..for you to "alter" the deduction at the register??
Cuz to ME.... that sounds like Walmart is ripping off the Manufacturer.
And most coupons state "Void if altered, etc."... so by altering the deduction..
Doesn't that in turn, void the coupon?
I mean, as a consumer, I cannot alter the deduction...
Why is it ok for you, as a retailer?
Cuz to ME... it doesn't matter if it's a customer or a retailer..
Theft is theft..
Fraud is fraud..
And I went on to ask...
Do manufacturers KNOW that you are altering the deductions (at the register) on their coupons, then being reimbursed the full face value?
And .. I stated that I am a smart shopper... and I *do not* set the value of the coupons, nor do I set the prices of their items they sell in the store..
So I (as a consumer) have NO control over "overage"... I merely try to save money and shop wisely..
So to summarize...
He was really nice and said that I was completely right...
That the cashiers should be deducting coupons at face value..
He *emailed* (not called) my walmart to reiterate the "unwritten" policy...
And within an hour, I got a call from "my" local walmart manager...
She apologized for ANY inconvenience that I may have experienced and said that she would inform her cashiers and floor managers that coupons are to be redeemed at face value... regardless of the item price.
HTH~
