    A few weeks ago I went to walmart with DF and we bought 14 Powerade Ion 32oz. I have coupons for $.75/2 powerade or vitamin water. By the way I live in Miami and understand a little spanish but dont speak it. Anyway

    The register beeps for the q's the cashiers says (in spanish) we can't take them I said excuse me I don't speak spanish she says in broken english no take. I was like ok why not. She gives me blank look. Then shows me the journal print. (can't recall what it says) so I said I bought the right items and showed her the size and item were correct. Again another blank stare. I said can I have a manager please. So another lady comes over (after like 25 min) *yes I waited on principal and it was like midnight* They speak to each other in Spanish and then the manager says in spanish we can't take them if the register beeps. I said again excuse me I don't speak Spanish. So she says were not taking them. I ask why. Again I'm told the thing about the computer beeping = no go.

    So I try and explain it to her and she says we no take them in a loud rude voice. I asked for her name and was told Maria (at the time I didn't believe it cause that is the common used name when your lying around here).

    So fast forward to this past Sunday night (about 11ish) same exact thing happened with q. I asked for a manager same one as last time comes over and starts to talk to me in very bad broken english and tells me it's one per purchase I said ok I am purchasing 4. She said no you can only use 1. I said if I can only use 1 then why did none of them scan? No response. So I asked how many am I purchasing? She says 4 ok great so I can use 2 coupons since it's off the purchase of 2. She says no only 1 per purchase. I said you just said I was purchasing 4. She got annoyed but I stuck it out.

    She then proceeds to tell me that if a coupon says 1 per purchase the register will only take that 1 coupon per purchase (she's saying it like she means transaction). So I say what if they are different coupons she says 1 per purchase.

    Since I wasn't effectively communicating (well I was fine it was her) I asked may I please speak with a manager who speaks English. She got so mad at me gave me dirty looks talked about me under her breath and to the cashier all in spanish DF speaks fluent spanish so he tells her in spanish that if she can't communicate with her customers she shouldnt be a manager and that its very rude to talk bad about her customers where they can hear you.

    She gave him a look and walked away. Another manager comes over who doesn't speak english again. Anyway she pushed them through and walked away and said she will only do it this once. I said no you won't you'll do it next time I guarantee it.

    Note: I am not against anyone who doesn't speak english or someone who works somewhere and doens't speak english my problem is that she is management and can't even communicate in english. My Df and DS are both Cuban so this is not meant as a bad look on spanish speaking people.

    Ahhh, I had that problem all the time when we lived in other areas. Unfortunately for them I took 4yrs of Spanish and am fluent enough (it gets rusty when you don't use it, lol) that I can still interpret it enough to tell you off. I HATE when people think speaking in a foreign language is excusable to say nasty things.

    I'm sorry that happened to you. I grew up in Texas (and also took Spanish as my foreign language in high school) and this happens all the time especially with construction workers or auto repairmen. :sad: It is frustrating, to say the least. Like you said, I'm not against them for not speaking English (or not speaking it very well) but at a management level position, I'm surprised that is allowed.

    Yeesh! Sorry to hear that.

    I don't care if they were speakin English, Spanish, French, Japanese or even sign language...
    They were out of line...
    AND..
    should LEARN the store policies for the store they work at!

    They have a job to do....and they should KNOW the rules and the manual ways to deduct coupons that don't scan correctly.

    I've used those same coupons ; .75 off Powerade Ion or Vitamin Water ; at several different stores and they beep AT EVERY REGISTER.
    It's annoying....but as long as they item-match the coupons...they put them thru.

    I'd be callin Corp about that store (not just BECAUSE of the language barrier, but also because it sounds to me like they need a lil meeting at your store :

    One coupon per transaction = 1 per order
    One coupon per person = 1 per order
    One coupon per customer = 1 per order
    One coupon per purchase = 1 coupon for each item that you scan/buy.

    I hope things improve there. It's a drag for ALL involved when you go thru all that.

    I had the same problem with the Powerade Q's yesterday at my Wal-Mart. I purchased 32 bottles and when I presented my Q's the cashier got all snotty, suspended the transaction before she even tried to scan a coupon and walked away without a word to me. When she came back I asked her what the problem was and she said she had to make sure she could take all the Q's and not get in trouble, since I got so many. I asked her if it would have been a problem buying 32 Powerade without coupons, which she did not respond to. I told her that I did not want her to get in trouble, but that it seemed ridiculous that she would get in trouble for accepting legitimate coupons used for the exact items specified on the coupon.

    It took a good 15 minutes for the cashier and two managers to sort it out, reading the coupons, checking the bottles of Powerade and matching them to the coupons. It got to the point where it was actually quite comical. They finally agreed that I got the correct items and grudgingly pushed the coupons through.

    Ugh I'm planning to go to Walmart tomorrow, and have some of these to use. Guess I need to prepare myself ahead of time. What is the most effective way to go about this that might possibly avoid a scene?

    I've had this happen before, with the $1/1 Tide coupons saying the same thing. It just feels hard to justify using a $1 coupon on a teeny 97 cent travel size tide - they always make me feel like I'm stealing or something - so I have started bringing just 1 coupon each time.

    On the bright side, I'm glad to hear they FINALLY took the coupons!

    Could someone please tell me why those coupons won't scan anywhere? I have used them several different stores and they have not scanned ANYWHERE.

    They are coded for "Checker Intervention"....so the cashier can item-match.

    To make sure that the items purchased match those listed on the coupon.

    Oh, i had wonderful using these. I was buying 92 bottles. Using 47 coupons, and needed them to double, making the bottles .25c each, so needless to say, the coupons beeped, and they each had to be entered manually. All of these beeping coupons are frustrating not only the shoppers but the cashiers as well.
