Default Walmart - Returns on Meat

Have any of you had issues returning meat you purchased at WM? I often purchase the "Mark Down" meat on Sat or Sun am.

I have not had any issues with the quality until now. I bought a great looking roast. I opened it to cook it the next day (the last day on the use by) and it was spoiled.

I knew I would not be able to get back to WM until yesterday so I put the meat and the original packaging in a bag and tossed it into the freezer.

I tried to return it yesterday. They gave me a really hard time saying that it clearly says "use or freeze by XX date" I told them I tried to use it by the date but it was bad so I froze it until I could get back to the store.

After quite a bit of hassle they finally did refund my money but was told "Only this ONE TIME"... Don't you hate that phrase!

Anyway, I am just wondering if anybody else has had this problem....
    Howdy from Texas!

In hindsight, if I knew my return to the store would be after the "sell by date", I would call the store immediately upon discovery and have them log in my meat quality complaint with a note that I could return the product the next day or such. I can understand how it looks suspicious to store personnel.

I have a store where I buy their hamburger meat when they have a .99/lb. sale, and twice I've had to return it to the store because the next day after purchase, the product was grey. My husband is not going to make hamburgers from grey meat. They inevitably give me a difficult time by arguing the product is still good, I should have used it the very day of purchase, blah, blah, blah.

I had a very similar issue early this year. I had some extra on my EBT card and treated myself to a fancy steak on my birthday. As my luck would have it, it was spoiled when I opened it (same date - 1 day before "best if used by date")

So I called and spoke with a manager, and got her name. I had no problems when I went in the next day, and the person working with me recognized the manager's name I'd gotten.

Sorry you had such a hassle!

I once had that happen with chicken on a night we were having a bunch of people over. I called the store- this was at Stater Brothers in CA- and they sent someone to my house with a new pack! Can you believe? But I'm not surprised they gave you a hard time at Walmart. They scrutinize each coupon like you are trying to pay with counterfeit money or something, and the customer service is horrible! I try to avoid shopping there whenever possible, but still end up there way too often...

    Wow, thats great customer service!

I know what you mean about Walmarts customer service. I work there and some of the cashiers are awesome and some of them are AWFUL. The floor associates (at least in my store) are much better w/ customer service than the cashiers. I prefer just to shop elsewhere so I don't have to deal w/ the hassel and scruitny.

I've only had to return meat to Walmart twice. The first time was Salmon and it was obviously spoiled and before the best by date. It used to be their policy that they'd give double the money paid back on produce and meat (at least locally). Found that out by accident when she gave me the money back and I thought it was too much and said something. They have since changed that I guess since I went to take some chicken back (about a year later) - but I didn't get a hassle then.

Both times, I was able to get out there to return by the package date. I agree with the idea to call if you can't get out there immediately. Sorry you had a hassle.
