No more cookies for kids at some Walmarts!

I had no idea WM did that. I know the kid's club in Wegmans by my house still gives out the cookies. Thay have also added to give out small apples and bananas.

Our Walmart doesn't do this...never has...

mine has never done this.

2 of our local grocery stores do this though. One has stopped (or we never get there in time) and the other is sporadic.

As a Brit, it amazes me to see how many people here, adults and children, walk around stores eating and drinking. This is frowned upon in England, most shops have signs outside saying 'no food or drink to be consumed', you are expected to sit down in the cafe if you need to eat or drink.

It's pretty bad for the digestion to eat while on the go, perhaps it might be good to get children into the habit of being able to gor for more than a short while without stuffing their faces

Sorry to those I offended, and glad some people 'got' my comment which was meant to be humorous (things come out different on screen to what you intend sometimes).

I do find it a bit odd from any point of view that people are getting indignant that their children aren't being encouraged to eat sugar and fat while they walk around a store, though - just because things are done a certain way doesn't mean it's right. Even if they are skinny as a rake you're still covering their teeth with sugar which isn't going to get brushed off for a while.

Not everyone here is obese, I am not sterotyping Americans, but if you use unhealthy food as a reward for going shopping then that habit will stay with them as they grow up.

Now free apple slices or bananas, that would be a great idea

I always get the kiddos a slice of cheese from the deli first.. This way they snack on that first. If I hit the other end of the store she wants the cookie as soon as she sees the bakery though. She often doesnt even eat it all as she just had cheese.... Sneaky sneaky moms LOL

My Food Lion stopped giving out cookies for a week or so because the health inspectors said something to them about doing it. The store started giving them out again a week later because they said it was just crazy for the kids not to get a cookie when they come to the store. I love my Food Lion. Our Wal-Mart is still giving out cookies though.

When I worked the meat deli at a local grocer we would give out a meat and cheese roll to the kiddos. A slice of ham usually with a slice of cheese rolled up. Excellent for business, after the kid munched out, they almost always came back for a pound of sliced meat and cheese.

Walmart is crazy to not give the cookie, it's business and increases sales.

The cookies that my WM gives out are the size of a half dollar and like 3 bites, so I really don't think that it's THAT bad. We always get one when we go in, and the bakery lady knows my children by name. I actually think that if they stopped doing it she would probably offer to buy the girls one herself, because she is so super sweet. We have gone in at times when they were closed or out, and if the girls are being good I buy them a donut to share instead. Our Kroger, Super Target, and Publix give them out as well, but there's are all full size and the ones that they sell. However, we are RARELY in either of those places since the Target nearest us is just a reg Target and I don't shop at the other places often.
