Default Re: Walmart! Not Worth It!!!! Purchase Vs. Transaction When Using Coupons

We make sure to check and double check our receipts before we leave. Although we are a 5 minute drive from the places of business and take public transportation, it still costs money to return to the store.
Absolutely a good idea/point. I always hand my coupons over in small batches so I can make sure each coupon is accepted/deducted.

When I explain the one per purchase concept I like to give them a visual aid. I say "one purchase means this" and I line up the items and put one coupon on each item. Then I say "one purchase means I can't do this" and then I take one coupon off an item and stack it on another item with a coupon. Sometimes it helps.

I always check my receipt at the store and have had to go back to customer service before over missed coupons only once. I guess I'm lucky. I've never had to use the coupon policy at Wm, but I do carry one with me.

i had a really positive experience last night at WM when using coupons. I was pleasantly surprised when the cashier took them right through and then asked me where I got them. I showed her the All You magazine on her register and told her most of them came from there from different issues. She thanked me and said she was going to check them out. my mom was standing there telling her all about the good coupons we see in All You and how much it saves us, and she said she didn't even know it had coupons in it!
Now, not all of my experiences have been this positive, but you better believe I'm looking for that cashier next time!

I found the Coupon policy on the WM website and you can click on the link and print the policy.

It clearly states that you can use 1 coupon per item. NOT 1 coupon per purchase/transaction.

They do say that use of 40 or more coupons require a customer service override.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with WM.

I was at WM the other day and used two coupons for some spaghetti...had no problems at all.

Isolated incident?:frown:

I would have fun at that WM if the GM agreed that was the way to be after speaking to him/her. The GM would explain to make sure it was understood that is not the case. Otherwise I would let them know I would just make one transaction for every coupon I used. If they are decent at all they would realize right then what would start happening, especially if all the Q customers had to do it this way.

They would start driving their average $ and item per transaction down by having a 1 item transaction for each coupon. Overtime it would come down to a point where questions would start getting asked as to WHY (from corp) these averages are getting lower and lower, since it costs more paper/ink to print receipts with less items, cashier production is lower therefore labor is higher etc... It is much easier to for a average to drop than it is to have an average increase.

I had 4 coupons for the stainless steel things and I ended up just going to the electronics, purchasing one there. Then going to the front lines, purchasing one there. Then I had my fiance go purchase another one, and gave my mum the last one. They seem to be very picky about 'per transaction' but you know what? Go ahead, make them do ANOTHER transaction. I don't mind making them work more if they wont let me use the coupon in the same transaction...

It baffles me that people don't even HEAR what they say. Its a purchase (singular) with one item and purchases (plural) with more then one. Wouldn't that also mean that you can make multiple purchases in one transaction?

So the visual example above (below; however you have your preferences set) was a great one. "This coupon for this one purchase and this one for this other purchase. Now give me the one total at the end."

But I mean, come on. LISTEN to what you say and then understand your own language right?

I know I hate when Cashiers think that you can only use one coupon for the whole transaction. A couple months ago at walgreens when the Foil was on sale for 4 for $3 I had 4 .75/1 Coupons from the back of tyson chicken nugget boxes and they beeped. So the cashier called up a manager and told her to put one of them through but not the other 3 since the coupon says "Aloca Will Redeem One Coupon per purchase/household". And now im kinda worried because with the foil that on sale next week at walgreens im going to have to go through this again because all of the foil coupons including the insert coupons say that. But i am willing to argue with them over it this time because its not fair. Luckily I dont have problems at walmart just at walgreens.

Only had the one per purchase deal thrown at me one time so far, and I am pretty new at this. This is how I ended that real quick.

Them: Its only one per purchase.
Me. I am purchasing it X times.
Them: No you are only making one purchase.
Me: Then if I buy this one you are giving me these for free?
Them: No (of course not, except I was not paying them for it since the Q was).
Me: Then I am purchasing these right?
Them: Yes

As soon as the manager (the one answering) said yes, the light bulb turned on for both of them and that was the end of their way of thinking.

You either have to purchase the item, or else it would be free, make them decide which way they want it to be.

You know, last time I went to Wal-Mart, the bottom of my receipt said:

NUMBER OF ITEMS PURCHASED: 4
