I believe it is up to 27 states now that the 4$ generics will be available. I saw the story on Yahoo earlier today but the link is gone now.
Walmart is advertising they will have $4.00
generic medications to help w/ the rising cost of
pharmacy drugs.
I do not have a listing yet. That will come later.
$4.00 will be a help to many people

I Picked Up A List From Our Walmarts

I saw the list too and unfortunately there's only one of my medications on it. Oh well...if they add more that I need I will endure the crap of going to Walmart to get my prescriptions. I'm surprised that a lot of the generics I take that are inexpensive to begin with are not on the list.

It started as a trial program in Florida, but the new news is the schedule for rolling it out nationwide has been bumped up, and quite a few places have just had it introduced. Maryland, for one.Originally Posted by fremont36
The list of generics include mostly "old" generics, which are already fairly inexpensive at many places. Still, $4 is a good price if you've been paying more.
The better news...many stores are following suit. CVS and Walgreens said they would not, and they report a less than 1% decrease in Rxs filled in areas where Walmart has been running the $4 program. But, places like Costco are matching or beating prices. I don't believe it's formally announced, but Costco pharmacies have the Walmart list, and will walk you through their rates. And...I picked up a new generic Rx today, one month, $2 at Costco!
Of course, the new pedigree law may change everything. But for now, it might pay to compare.

Pedigree law is extremely controversial, and I'm not up to a heated discussion; a quick summary is, a system that allows EVERY PILL or whatever form of medication to be tracked back to the point of manufacturer. A pedigree, in essence, to prove it came from the US (or wherever), which plant produced it, etc.
There is a huge legal debate on whether or not this will drive costs up, basically having a laser engraved ID or other id (still in discussion) that's not "fakable" like current markings are...versus the cost of "counterfeit drugs" being passed off as US made and all that entails...and, well, you can imagine all the issues and arguments.
It's a huge issue with store/pharmacy chains.

Heard on the news today that WM's $4 drugs are only 1% of the drugs out there. So, will have to see what is on it. It is kind of misleading - go there to fill a script and not on the list - what do you do? I am sure they think you will go ahead and fill it.

Scroll to bottom, there is a pdf doc with the names of the prescriptions

DH needs Naproxen 500mg and the script is for 45 pills and I noticed it's $4 for 60 pills at Walmart. Is it $4 for up 60 pills or do they pro-rate it to the amount of pills the script is wrote for?
I'm so made at myself for not remembering about this program because I first had it filled at Walgreens for a co-pay of $20 :mad6:, he has a refill on it so will Walmart be able to refill it or do I have to take it back to Walgreens?
Enjoy the little things in life....for one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things.
