HELP Uuuhhggg, tried to show off new skills

Thought i would show off my new couponing skills to my hubby, and did good, but not what i expected. Went to Walgreens, bought the Nyquil/Dayquil deal. All on sale for $5. Get 10 ECB wyb $20. I bought 4 of them to get to $20, then I had 4q's for 1.50 ea. Thought I would get the $10ECB, but when i added the $6.00 in q's the total came to 14.00. That is not enough to get the $10ECB! Ended up having to buy another Item that was $6 to make it back to $20! I know there is a way to do this correctly, but the manager couldn't figure out how to use my coupons and still get to the $20. Please help me to do this correctly next time. Thanks, a total newbie

ECB offers are NOT affected by coupons. If your ECB didn't print it is because either an item wasn't "coded" in the computer as being included or some other strange glitch. It doesn't matter how much you actually spend out of pocket, you had $20 worth of items, which should have met the offer.

If you were trying to earn ECB's you were at the wrong store if you were at Walgreen's. I think you might actually be talking about the RR's and if so, it should have printed.

If you actually went to CVS, there's not a deal like that going this week or for the sales starting in the 1/23 ad.

The RR should have printed. Is it possible that the items were $5.99 each or other amount ending in $.99. If so, you would have needed to buy another items to make sure you made it above the amount required (brought down by being $.01 less). I hope this makes sense. The amounts don't round up.

    Receipt shows:

    Nyquil 10 oz 5.00 SALE
    Nyquil 10 oz 5.00 SALE
    Dayquil 24 5.00 SALE
    Dayquil 24 5.00 SALE
Nyquil Sinex 5.00 SALE (told i had to buy to get to the 20.00)
The manager thought it was 6.00, so the total still only
    came out to $19.00
    Mfg q -1/50
    Mfg q -1.50
    Mfg q -1.50
    Mfg q -1.50

Total $19.00 (Not even $20) haha

    Wag AD Savings: 10.95
    Mfg Cpn Savings 6.00
    TOTAL Savings: 16.95

Paid $19.00 and got $10.00 RR

The funny part is it ended up not even totaling the $20.00, and it still gave me the $10.00. The manager insisted I had to buy something else totaling that extra 6.00 to make up for the coupons that brought my total down!! Thanks everyone for all of your quick and great responses!. Now I know better and will not let that happen again. She just would not hit the final button to see if it would spit out my RR, for fear of it not giving it to me!. She was very nice, but didn't want to disappoint me. Next time, its just Hit The Button!

For register rewards if you are required to buy $20 worth, its NOT after coupons. Its $20.00 then subtract the coupons. Thats how we save so much on these deals.

I would suggest getting a copy of their coupon policy or even sending an email asking that question and printing the reply and bringing it with you when you shop so your store manager knows coupons have no effect on whether or not the RR will print. Usually when you send an email they copy the store manager so make it clear that he/she was helpful but misinformed and you are trying to make sure you do not hit the problem again.

Should note that if you try to use a RR on the same deal, it wont print another. But other than that coupons do not reduce your total towards the deal.

Sounds like one of the 2 items you bought were not coded in as part of the sale.

It has happened to all of us. Its easiest to argue your case when you have the coupon policy with you.

So what you are saying is that it would have printed even if you hadn't added the Sinex. So you would have paid 14.00 and gotten back a $10 RR.
If that were me, and I was just starting out, I would return the Sinex and explain to the mgr that it was an unnecessary purchase (with the policy in hand to explain, of course ).
I say that because in the beginning I made a lot of mistakes which would have really cost me if I had not made returns to undo those mistakes.
Now a days, if I bungle something up, I usually just move on, because it doesn't really affect my big picture anymore.
A mistake here and there is just part of the game. But in the beginning, I needed to see my savings as they really were to motivate me to keep going.
(and no, I'm not saying you made a mistake - the manager obviously just doesn't know how things work).

And funny thing is, every time I would bring one of my teens along, or my hubby, something would go wrong at the register. They were convinced it was more trouble than it was worth.
Well 3 years later now, and they long ago abandoned that thought!
