How does the employee discount work?

Today was Teacher Appreciation Day at the local Walgreen's nearest our school.

We were supposed to get 15% off most stuff, but 20% off Walgreen products. Instead, we got 25% off everything because it is the same as the employee discount, which was 25% today (one of four times a year, the employee told me).

I only bought stuff that had coupons in their ad (plus my own coupons, but that is beside the point). The 25% came off the top. Then there was the coupon savings from their ad.

I would have rather had the other way around. I figure Walgreen's employees will know if I actually saved more than I would usually with the ad coupons and my own coupons.

Tomorrow it goes to 15%/20% so I would like to know how this works before I go there. I know when I worked retail it sometimes was rather odd and not what you might imagine.

I only spent a little over $9 for three 200-count kleenexes, three 33 oz. hand sanitizer (I am a teacher, and my kids expect it), four cans of chicken broth, and scotch mailers (I sometimes sell books).

It was a great price, but I wasn't sure if it was any better than an employee would have done with the ad coupons.

not sure I get your question.......but if you used the ad coupons and your mfg coupons then nope you couldn't have done better.
The 25% helped save you more today vs the 15% usual discount

I dount it would have gotten any better. Did you also get a discount on the ad items? I know when i worked for walgreens we got the discount on the sale items as well as regular. But when i worked at cvs we didnt get any sort of discount on any items on sale.

There was 1 day where employee discount was 25% because it was "employee appreciation day" after that one day, it went back to 15% off on any item and 20% on walgreen's products.

The employee discount % is entered into the computer BEFORE any products are rung in, so that it will ring up at the discount price as each item is rung in.

Then you give your MQ's and store coupons and any RR etc you wish to use.

But keep in mind, if you plan on taking advantage of RR deals, if the deal requires you buy so much $ in a product in order to qualify for the RR, figure in the discount or you won't get the RR.

If the product is simply "buy this and get a RR", the discount won't matter and you still get the RR

It's a great deal if you combine that discount with MQ's, store Q's, saving booklet Q's and max out the RR's as well.

I rolled the RR deals today with the discount (15%) and all the coupons etc and had a GREAT time taking advantage of that 15% off.

Will do it again tomorrow as well!

I'm a Walgreens Employee, and I ALWAYS have trouble reaching the "Buy $XXX or more" minimum without spending more than I save, so I often make several transactions, and carefully choose which I ask for my discount on.
