HOT Yet Another Bad Walgreens Experience

This was my worst Walgreens experience yet. Let me preface by saying I know that using a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale is totally YMMV. That's fine. I have stores that will let me do it and stores that will not. However, this employee's behavior was appalling. I got a few things I needed and went to cosmetics. I paid in cosmetics and took my things out of the store. The BA was very nice to me.

My sister was waiting in the car with her 4 year old son and when I got back to the car she mentioned that she found another Ecotrin coupon and a BOGO Nivea in her bag and she wanted to get the items. She hurt her foot a few days ago, so I volunteered to go in and get it. I grabbed the items and went to the front desk since there didn't appear to be anyone in cosmetics anymore. As the cashier was ringing me out, the same BA comes around the corner and starts ranting (because that really is the only word for it) that it's one per person per day and I'd already bought Ecotrin at her counter and that they only have a few left. As far as that is concerned, I say...ORDER MORE!? Order an appropriate amount of stock for your sale. If it's only day 2 of the sale and you only had 3 to begin with, you have not adequately prepared your store for the sale of what you know is going to be a hot item. These stores know which coupons are coming out. They know which items will be free. But I digress...

Then she looks at the other items on the counter and says that if I'm using a coupon the Nivea is already BOGO and that's coupon fraud to use a coupon on it. She was being ridiculous. I tried to explain to her that my sister was in the car with her son and it was for her. She said she didn't care...my sister would need to come in and pay for it herself (all $.14 of it). I'm a pretty easygoing person. My sister not so much. So...I went to the car, unleashed my sister and my sister got the store manager involved.

My sister basically explained that Walgreens is the only store she's ever shopped at where they just really don't allow customers to make purchases and that throwing the word coupon fraud at your customers for something that is not fraudulent when RA is right across the street (and their corporate policy is BOGO on BOGO is a-ok) is not the brightest move. The manager was apologetic but it was just the most ridiculous thing.

I truthfully don't think that they believed my sister was in the car and I noticed a basket behind the cosmetics counter with FARR things in it and I heard these same employees saying while I was shopping that they were going to buy some later in the evening. Needless to say, I'll be shopping as frequently as I can in that store and smiling sweetly at those same employees. I am not easily deterred and my best revenge is to continue to shop there as often as I can. The cashier was very nice but the BA was a witch and I'll be sure to check out with her.

ugh. I am so sorry about that! My favorite moment was when the idiot manager who told me I could not use my bogo/bogo coupon/sale was put in his place by the district manager. *sigh*. And really, what business is it of theirs who you're buying it for? It irks me to no end when stores pull that crap. Don't they want to sell the products???

I agree, Sarah. That stinks. In this economy, you'd think they would be thrilled to have customers want to buy their over priced merchandise. You have the right attitude though. Just keep on shopping. If they want to limit their sales, they need to do so in writing, and with a formal coupon policy. HOWEVER, in my opinion, that would be a really bad business decision for them.

sorry for your ordeal. i had an interesting morning at a wags in norther ky this am. i went into one of my usual stores to find a couple with not one, not two, but three cart loads worth of nivea bw, razors, and reach toothbrushes. there were 6 bw left, no toothbrushes, 2 razors, and no neutrogena soaps, as they had all of them in their carts! i asked the sweet BA if she had to allow them to wipe shelves clean, she states the mgr refuses to do anything about it, and makes them ring up each of the 100's of items seperately. i told her if she can't say something to them, i can! i proceeded to ask what they do with over 50 bw, they told me they have a lot of kids. i said, i guess so as you feel the need to wipe out the shelves. then the husband chimed in, we left 2 razors, and a few bw's go get oen. i stated apparently they have trouble understanding how to coupon properly and read limits, as there is a limit of 1 bw, 1 razor, 3 neutrogena items. they said, no there is no limit we can buy them all. they proceeded to tell me head down to the other store there was plenty left as they wouldn't be going there. i kindly explained an honest coupon user obides by the limits. if you need more, come on another day, or go to another store. don't be rude and inconsiderate of others. i told them since the mgr won't explain this to them, i have no problem doing so; also told them it is people like them who ruin it a q friendly stores. after i made my purchase, of 1 bw, 1 razor, and 0 neutrogena ( since they had over 20 bars of the soap in their carts), i marched back to my car and call wags 800 customer service and told the rep what the store mgr was allowing to go on with these 2 customers. the rep was flabbergasted that the mgr didn't step up and tell these people limit 1! she stated that corp would be looking into it and reminding the mgr he or she has a right to limit quantities. boy was this not a good way to start my morning!

I feel your pain and understand why you're upset about it. Hopefully corp acts on issues like this. But then, if reports on the 'net are true that certain WAG branches allow special orders by the cases of Neutrogena bars, Nivea BW, and all other items printing RRs, this thing happening should be investigated by corp and find out why store management allows opening special registers for special customers to do hundreds of transactions just so they can have all their RRs while paying strictly with coupons. I know they're interested in a sale, BUT why at the expense of other shoppers who just want to buy a few? Since other branches are deprived of stocks since they're distributed to just a few stores that accepted special orders, this has to be dealt with by corporate if it is true that certain districts allow this kind of selling. That is like selling wholesale while taking coupons as form of payment!

I would have gotten my sister on 'em, too.

I really wish retailers would learn the difference between "coupon fraud" and "coupon policy."

Sheesh. Stuff like that is why I'm glad CVS makes you get a card and limits your purchases. Sometimes it's a pain, but getting another card or two is always an option. But unless someone wants to keep up with 25 different cards, no one's going to fill up an entire cart. Good on you for calling CS, though.

Woo Hoo for you! You are my kind of couponer. They think they are going to make me go away...not. It just makes me more determined to go back to the store and get my deals. I have a wags less than a mile from me that is unbelievable, but I keep going in, getting my deals and smiling on the way out.

The store is choosing to make one customer happy (the one with multiple carts) at the expense of many unhappy customers.
Not good for business. The math just doesn't work out.
