QUESTION Walgreens - same number of coupons and items question

this is so confusing to me sometimes

wags has this thing that you can only use the same number of coupons as items you are buying. i.e. 4 items being bought = max 4 coupons can be used.

included in the coupon count are register rewards.

are IVC's included in this coupon count?

    also what about this scenario?
i went to wags a couple of weeks ago. bought 2 children's tylenol. used one $3/2 coupon and one RR. the machine beeped. the cashier would not accept the RR because i was only buying two items. i said yes - two items and two coupons. she said no the coupon counts as two coupons because it says $3 off 2 items therefore the coupon counts as two coupons.

where does this math come from? :shrug7: is she right?

    thanks

First of all, IVCs don't count toward the coupon count. The RR specifically says, "manufacturer coupons and register rewards."

Second, I have found that the registers beep like that if you don't do the RR first. We are still within the guidelines of the wording on the RR, but for some reason the register doesn't like it. I always do RR's first if I have an exact # and a BOGO or $/2 coupon, and never have a problem.

IVC's are NOT included in your coupon to item ratio. Some coupons that are $xx/2 tie themselves to two items, so you cannot use a third coupon (or in this case, an RR) without having a small filler.

Some $xx/xx coupons don't tie to all of the items when scanned (for instance, the Kleenex .50/3), so you can use this coupon and two RR's in this transaction. It all depends on how the coupon is coded, so it's best to try it first and have a small filler nearby just in case it doesn't work.

I ALWAYS hand my RR's in last, after all the MQ's and IVC's and have found that works best for me. I guess it's all in how you work it and the stores....

    thanks ladies.

would you mind telling me why you hand in your RRs first or why you hand them in last?

I do mine first because they never beep that way. I had a cashier tell me that once, and I have done it since. I even had a nasty argument with one cashier about it who was being unreasonable and VERY rude in a situation with a BOGO coupon and all my other coupons. I handed her the RR first, and she wanted the rest... then it wouldn't take the RR (duh!) and she tried not to take it. We argued and she was rude and talked about me committing fraud (I so hate that). Finally I said, "delete all the stupid coupons and just ring the register reward first and watch. It's like magic." So she did it-while huffing and puffing-and VOILA! It worked! (gee...) She looked at me and said, "why didn't you just tell me that to BEGIN with instead of causing all the hassles?" I was like, "really?" :o She sucks. I haven't been to that WAGs again...they always work when they go first for me... not sure why. *shrug*

Sometimes, the IVCs are indeed programmed as MQs and you will need a filler to use the IVC + a regular MQ. Also, in-ad coupons (aka 7 day coupons) do not count in the coupon count. IVCs normally don't count either, unless there's some mix up in the programming.
x/2 coupons will sometimes "attach" to both items. Again, it's a programming/ coding issue.
RRs DO count in the coupon count. They are considered MQs.
As I'm shopping, I keep an eye out for cheap fillers. Clearance pencils are good, or clearance holiday items. It can be a pain, but there are great deals to be found at WAG.
