Default Walgreens: to stack or not to stack, that was the unknown

Walgreen sale Reese's cups 49 cent with store coupon.
    Sunday's manufacturer's coupon .55/1

I went to my Walgreen and thought the manufacturer's coupon would stack on top of the store coupon, like it has 100% of the time in the past, for me at least. The clerk was not too happy about it.
It got done but the clerk was not too enthused.

How should the above two coupons been handled?

manufacture coupon first, THEN the in ad coupon.....make sure you have something to suck up the 6 cents of overage

    it's up to the store.

I always hand over Man q then store q. But as long as you were buying the right product (the dark kind) i don't see why it's a problem

ok, I made the mistake of giving the clerk both coupons at the same time and did not have anything to cover the overage. In my mind, since they can not give cash back, then the .55 coupon would be manually entered for 49 cents.
There were two clerks and the younger one seemed to be "observing" like he was new. He had a name tag on but the clerk that handled my item did not.
He said he could not accept the coupon because the coupon exceeded the 49 cent price. I suggested that it should be free and I pay the tax. He did some manuevering and said "I took care of it" but it was VERY clear he was not pleased.
At first he wanted to not accept the store coupon so he could apply the manufacturer's coupon to the regular price of .89 because he said I owed him .35 (.89 + .01 tax - .55/1 coupon = .35).
    So, store coupon given last?
It beeped even though the coupon and the sale extended to the "dark" variety.

Having only one item made the "deal" stand out. But, I rarely shop there and did not have the cash to buy something for the fun of it. I knew I could not get 6 cents back and had no intention of that. I thought the coupon would be adjusted to .49.

Some stores will adjust the coupon and some won't.

I have had similar problems at the grocery store when I was $.11 negative. I think for some reason the cashier gets nervous when something like that happens. While it is a legit deal, having something to cover the overage will tend to make things go more smoothly in my experience. As others have said, giving the manufacturer coupon first is the way to go at Wags.

I had an issue last night with this. She would not accept the coupon because it was more than the sale price I tried to say it was a coupon not a slae price ( I know splitting hairs) I was very frustrated, and not in the mood to argue. Just left without a purchase- they lost out I guess.

I got three of these yesterday along with the free after RR Colgate and had no problems. Gave my manuf. Q's first so there were no beeps and overage calculated as expected.

That would be the point at which the cashier tries to charge me 11 cents.
