QUESTION WALGREENS – Asking the help when the weekly delivery truck will arrive

    Q) What is the good, the bad, the ugly when it comes to asking the Walgreens' help as to when the weekly delivery truck (aka: the resupply truck) will arrive?

    +

    Q) Do you find the information accurate?

    Q) Even when the truck arrives, it the stock readily available or do you have to wait hours or the next day?

    +

If someone wanted to make their Walgreens’ shopping experience more easy, knowing when the truck arrives will help on in obtain weekly sale items since they easily sell out during the first or second day of the sale.

    Terry,
Wow I've found that to vary greatly by store. I have 4 stores in my immediate area and they are all really good about telling customers when the supply truck will be in but as for getting the product out and available it varies. I have one store that got their truck on Friday of this last week and most of the stock was available that same day. Then I have another store that got their truck on Thursday and they were still unpacking on Sunday. I know this because it took them till Sunday to find the Almay foundation that I wanted. Too bad the sale was over and I didn't want it anymore.

I've found all the staff at each store to be knowledgeable about when "the truck" comes and willing to share the information if you ask about an out-of-stock item. But it does usually take 24 hours before the stuff that comes on "the truck" to be unpacked. I've been told a few times that stuff that is high demand is sometimes put in the back of the truck so that it can be taken out first and put right out, but I doubt that really happens. I think most stores get "the truck" twice a week, like Tuesday and Saturday, but also know ones with lower traffic might only get one truck a week. There is basically nothing you can do about the supply except having multiple stores to choose from and knowing which ones keep higher volume of things. Some newer stores I have been to will have like 24 jars of Ragu out on the shelf, whereas smaller stores keep 4-6 jars on the shelf, so if I want Ragu, I know where to go. The only other option is trying to establish a REALLY good relationship with a manager and warn them a week or more ahead if you want to buy a high quantity of something because they can request more of certain items, but the district manager might not be willing/able to approve it and acutally get it sent on "the truck".

My stores have been very accurate about what their "truck days" are. Most of the stock is out in a few hours, so I go in the afternoon. If the item I want has not been unpacked yet, they will go search for it for me. I can also tell them what I am looking for and they will hold some for me if it gets unpacked early.

The truck day does change after each holiday. For example, one of my stores gets it truck on Tuesday. That will stay the same until Thanksgiving. Then it will change to another day and stay on that same day until Christmas when it will change again. So, make sure that you ask after each holiday what day it will change to.

I just ask for a rain check if they are out and get it when it is back in stock.

Trucks are loaded by weight, they can't put a ton of heavy stuff on the back end. Usually there are several stores on one truck.
The length of time it takes to unload and get the merchandise up depends on how fast the driver gets it unloaded, how much help is there to help, ect ect.
Unfortunately sometimes it can take awhile to get it all up. Alot of stuff comes in full case, but alot of things come in totes. Not sure about all stores but we get from 250-300 totes a week, and those do take time to get up and out.

That doesn't work out very well for FARR items. Or any RR items unless you have a fantastic store that will write the raincheck for the amount after RR or write it so that you get the RR amount on a giftcard. Plus rainchecks usually limit you more in your rolling scenarios.

I know one of the trucks or maybe the only truck comes in on Wed at my Wags. But they are usually still unpacking all that afternoon. When I go in on Thurs everything is on the shelves so Thurs is the best day for me to go.
    Where are the DEALS!?
One each of Walmart, Wags, HyVee, Aldis, DG, DT County Market NO doubles/triples

I usually go the day after the truck comes. it seems to take the staff at least 12 hours to unload. but it varies greatly from store to store.

Just want to add-on here. The stuff that comes in 'full case' is labeled and is all one product. If these are ad outs these are generally put out right away.

Items in totes though...we do not know what is in each tote. Yes in general this is a 'diet' tote a 'food' tote a 'shampoo' tote. That does not really mean much except likely most of the items go in that general area of the store. (There are also fun totes called 'mixed' ... take a wild guess ;-)).

So it just depends on what you're looking for as to when it will be stocked. Looking for the canned goods that are on coupons? Those will be filled as soon as possible after they come off the truck. Looking for a particular color of eyeshadow...that will likely be one of the last pieces out and usually that is within 24 hours, but again that depends on how much help there is.

Oh how I love those "mixed" totes! lol...
    but I agree.
If your waiting for makeup you will be waiting for a bit because it is by far the most difficult item to stock due to all the variations availabl and because it literally comes all mixed up in a big red box and takes forever to sort and put away correctly.

Most other things are restocked by the following morning after the truck drops the shipment.
