Default Re: walgreens November Wags coupons - Cashier and Manager said that it can be applied to only one item?

I ran into some coupon ****s this evening. Put up my Lubriderm, Pantene, and Almay One Coats. As she was scanning I set my coupons down. Almay $4, Lubriderm $1, Pantene $1/2, and 3 Lubriderm $2/1. I had some RR in my hands and she said she needed them too... What? I said I needed to wait for the total since they were varying amounts. She spread the coupons out and called the manager who inspected them and the qualifying purchase. I had already noticed the mascaras were ringing up B1G1 50% (they got the memo!) lol So I said I wanted to take the mascaras off. They voided the mascaras. Then she proceeded to tell me that I couldn't use my RR to pay the balance because I had already used coupons on all the items. WHAT??? The manager said as he was walking away that it states on the RR... At that point... I just scooped up my coupons and said to void the entire transaction... Just stupid!

OK... just read one of the RRs
"coupon value cannot exceed purchase amount" that makes sense.
"total number of manufacturer coupons/register rewards cannot exceed the number of items in the transaction" HUH? I might be tired, but that makes NO sense to me!

Oh well, I won't go back to THAT store. Have enough other ones I can shop.

To answer the OP. I even had one store hand back the 2 WAGS coupons ($4 Almay and $1 Lubriderm) to me. She said, there was no limit on them and I could use them again. THAT makes sense since the coupon books are all over the store. So, I guess it's another YMMV on that one.

yup..thats right. next time grab a filler for each RR you want to use. total items must be equal or greater to total # MQs and RR. soif you have a RR for each item in your purchase and want to pay with 2 RR, you need 2 fillers. see the sticky for great filler ideas. halloween stuf is pretty cheap right nw. HTH!

She meant to say, if you already have a coupon for each item, you're maxed out on coupons allowed.
If you want to use x number of RRs to pay the balance, you will need x number of additional filler items.

Another way to count it:
total # of coupons + total # of RR must = at least the total # of items

exception: i think if you have a coupon like $1.00/2, that coupon counts both items as a group rather than as 2 items

See now as a cashier I have a major problem here...and it is not what you think.

It is not the customers responsibility or fault that the store coupon multiplies automatically when you, the customer are making a duplicate item purchase...whether it be on a b1g1 sale item or just because your hosting a longest eyelash contest and need or want to purchase 16 mascara's sale or no sale doesn't really matter to me. The sale should be the least of the issue...to me that's just a sale + a store cpn = no drama.

Sounds to me like this was something that should have gone through w/out a big issue and was made into one by the cashier.

I can tell you that I am not going to hold anyone else to blame for how corporate programed in that coupon...
I would definitely report that I think there is a problem with it, on the spot,...but again you don't hold someone's order and mess around for 10-15 minutes trying to figure it out...if you need to you can just do a price adjust to what price the item should be after the coupon (ignore actually scanning the coupon for the moment since you know it's deducting way too much), apologize for the confusion, and after customer is taken care of deal w/ the issue w/ the managers help.

Incorrect excception..at least at my store: The registers we have do not see the $1/2 item coupons as off one item...you will need a filler in that scenario.

Now let's not get all crazy because you didn't read the exculsions or understand the lingo. That is hardly fair.

"total number of coupons/register rewards cannot exceed the number of items in the transaction" - easy... count your manufacturer coupons, count your RR's and how many items you have. You can't have 12 coupons/rr's and 10 items. RR's are manufacturer coupons and you can't use 2 manufacturer coupons on one item and that is exactly what you would be doing.

Add a candy bar..scan a RR, if you have another RR and your total is high enough to use it...say balance due is $3.02 and your holding a $3...have her scan it...if it works great...but it won't. Add another candy bar, use the ad coupon this week to get it for .49 and scan the last RR... so you'll pay just over .50

It's frustrating when you first get going and yes, they are less than consistant about what is oay and not okay so it's important to keep reading all the small print.
