I don't consider coupons a grey area. Either you can use them, or you can't. Ultimately, it is the mfg. paying the coupon amount, so they have the final say, IMHO.

Can you tell I am a very left-brained kind of person?
But it is YMMV - some stores will accept them, some stores won't. Stores are not required to accept coupons (ie Big Lots, Dollar Stores, etc.) and stores do have the right to limit coupon usage whether it be by limiting the number or the type or whatever. P&G cannot make them accept another stores coupon. It is not a grey area - it is just based on a store's corporate policy.

My issue however is that same stores don't follow uniform policies - I don't like going into one Wags and be able to do one thing but go into another Wags and not be able to. It is a terrible PITA when the same chain can't agree on what is a part of their corporate policy!

Welcome to the wonderful world of retail. I have yet to find a chain store that has a well documented and published coupon policy and executes it consistently across all its stores. Heck.....coupon policy will vary within the same store location but based on different cashiers on duty. I just try to get a good relationship with my local store staff....that goes a long way.

Before ya fire off a email/letter/call to corporate, keep in mind if you do it will just go back to the store manager to take care of. Might just be best just to chalk this one up and get onto the next great deal.

If it says redeem at X store you need to redeem there only. If it says Manufacter Coupon and not redeem at X store then you could had used it at Walgreens.

At the least i would go back to the store and explain to them the sale price did not ring up right. Since you said it only took around 30% off, instead of the 50% off. Then i would just eat up the loss and look for a better sale.

Thanks for all the responses! Turns out, this IS a grey area! The MFG. says anyone should accept it, yet acknowledges it is up to the store.

I pursued this because I wanted to determine if *I* was doing something wrong (as they made me feel), or if it a WAGS policy that I need to know about when weighing whether I want to shop there. Turns out, it's WAGS policy.

Here is the reply from P&G:

Thanks for contacting Tampax, XXXXX.

We appreciate your interest! Our policy is as follows: as long as the coupon says "manufacturer coupon," it is redeemable at any store. However, if the coupon lists a specific store, other stores may not want to accept it. Ultimately, stores determine their own individual policies on coupon acceptance.

Thanks again for writing!

Interesting! I have the same q book and the only Save a lot near here didn't carry most of the items and the ones it did were way too high priced. Hmm I may use it at Walmart since they accept competitor's qs anyway.

When you send a communication to the CEO of a company, it gets read and then it get delegated out (to the district manager, etc).

Imagine a communication from the CEO's office of your company.

That communication has an implied 'deal with this' written into it.

Q) Do you think the recipient will put that communication off?

So, I like to go to the top of the totem pole to get a reply to a question / concern.

+

Unless a manufacturer's cents off coupon states:

"Only redeemable at xxx store."

Then, that coupon should be redeemable at other chains.

+

A "Redeem this coupon at xxx," to me is a suggestion and not a rule / order.

Yet, a chain like Walgreens will interpret in their favor and say that they cannot honor it.

+

Finally ...

N'oubliez pas (Do not forget):

A store has the right to accept or not to accept a coupon.

The customer has the right to shop somewhere else.

+

What I do is learn from each and every shopping experience and from reading electronic message boards like this one.

Even with my 100+ years of experience, I am still learning something new.

Onward, and most importantly, upward!

Walgreen RR are intended to be used at Walgreens. IF your store takes Walgreen RR No discussion in the Walgreen Forums. IF you want to know if your particular store takes them, then please call your store. Sorry but we don't allow discussion of Walgreen RR at other stores in the Walgreen Forums.

I think the m&m coupon in this weeks paper is an good example...I don't think (may be wrong) it says Target coupon....but has a big ole red bulls eye on it and there isn't a store in town that will touch it.

Does your coupon actually say "manufacturer coupon" on it??
I just reread the post and am really not sure where I got lost but think if it says "manufacturer coupon" but says redeem at publix...it's a marketing deal btwn them and whether they are more expensive or not if you want to use your coupon your goin to have to use it there.

I'm thinking that it is a store coupon though?. Manufacturer coupons always say manufacturer coupon on them somewhere. Store coupons sometimes only have the symbol, or have the store name in the fine print..etc..they do not spell out that they are a store coupon sometimes.
