Yup I"ve noticed that here as well. I go to Joplin to shop every few weeks...so maybe i'll start doing some of my Walgreens shopping there instead of in Kansas....

Since you have the tax...and you can't use an RR on the tax....it's quite a bummer.

Not only do we here pay federal, state and local out of our checks, then the local sales tax (which varries by county - so go ahead cuyahoga chase me out of buying furniture or appliance there!)

I had a reverse problem with tax. I went to Wags to get halloween candy a few days ago. I bought 6 bags for $2 ea, had 3 $1/2 q's, a $3 off wyb $10 for grand opening of Wags, and a $6 RR. I expected to pay nothing. Well the stupid Wags q for $3/$10 took off -.28 tax (which the coupon said it did not take off tax), so I was not able to use one of my $1/2 q's and had to pay .72 for the candy. I was so flustered when the coupons were not working right I just paid it and figured it out later. At the register my coupon mode broke in and I was about to grab anything that cost $1 to offset it, but I was so confused I just let it go. Oh well...

Ditto here in Ohio. And I work for state government. Believe me, your average employee is not the one reaping the benefits of all these taxes. We got 10 unpaid "cost savings days" each year the next 2 years, no wage increases, higher insurance costs, and on and on. It's the political appointees that make out like bandits.

We also pay sales tax AND state taxes in MS. In TN they don't have state tax, but their sales tax is a lot higher (close to 3% higher). I live right on the border... DH doesn't know why I'll drive 3 miles out of the way to go to a Wag in MS instead of just crossing the state line to the store in TN that's a little closer.

You can live in one state that has a sales tax (that includes a local piggyback tax) of 7.75%.

    - and -

Someone else live in another state that has a sales tax (that includes a local piggyback tax) of 5.00%.

    Q) So, whom is better off?

    A) I say they are 'about equal' since the lower sales tax most likely charges sales tax on more items.

Sounds like one of those two stores is collecting tax incorrectly.

The tax man will jump all over them just like when they find out a store is charging 7.75% sales tax instead of the correct 7.70%

That difference really adds up (in both situations [the before and after, and the different percentages]).
