That is really scary. My guess is that the pharmacist will get into big trouble for that mistake. Someone else may have a bottle with your son's name on it. I hope your son gets better.
My son has H1N1 and was written a 'script for Tamaflu. We had to go to three different pharmacies before we found one that had it. THEN, Walgreens gives us someone elses RX! I didn't read the bottle when we got home. The papers and "stuff" said DS's name, so I just gave him the dose on the bottle. I look at the bottle today, and wonder who the heck is this Emme person. That is not my son's name. I called Walgreens and they asked us to come right in. DH went in (I was rather angry and stayed home lest I maim someone). They were able to figure out that the medicine was Tamaflu and the right dose for a 4 year old. Everything was fine except the wrong name/address/etc on the bottle. They refunded all our $$$ (50 bucks!) and reprinted everthing.
They could have killed my baby! It could have been any medicine. I am still quite angry, and will avoid Walgreen Rxs in the future. Agh!

The same thing happened to me twice: once at CVS and the other at Meijer. Both times I got the wrong strength of the medication. CVS gave me a much stronger medication that could cause death, and Meijer gave me a lower strength. I am thankful that I caught their mistakes, so no harm done. Now I am much cautious whenever I get my prescription fills.
CVS gave me an entire box of Prevacid instead of just the 45 pills a month one time...I didn't say anything![]()

Actually they dispensed the correct medication and dosage, but it was mislabeled......but you still have to wonder where the system broke down for the error to occur at all. I am sure you already had plenty of worries on your mind already with a sick child. I am a retired RN, I know how easily an error can be made dispensing medications. I always check and double check anything I pick up from the pharmacy, once in the store and then again before administering the med. Hope your little one if feeling better soon!
I won't fill at Walgreens. My mother received the wrong heart medicine one time. The other time, her vial was full of staples.
eek :-/ glad it was just a minor mix up.
