Default WALGREENS – Q) Are cashiers instructed to put the RRs in the customer’s shopping bag?

    .
I ask because I treat RRs as if they are cash.

I would never put cash in my shopping bag.

    +

I prefer to have them handed to me where I can:

    • First, make sure that I got them all

    • Second, keep them in my tightly closed fist until I get to my car where I put them in a very safe place, not to be misplaced or forgotten

I noticed this to the other day. I didn't see the lady shove them in the bag so I asked for them. She said I gave them to you. I replied no you didn't. She them pointed to the bag I looked and it was there.

I do agree with you. I want them in my hot little hand until I get to the car to out them in my wallet.

I should think it depends upon the cashier. Almost all my cashiers hand me the receipts and RRs.

I don't think any of my cashiers have done that to me, but they also see me a LOT so they know I have a little compartment in my coupon folder for them :p

The cashiers that know me just put them in the bag, first they show me what RR's I got others hand them to me.

That must be something that their store manager advised them to do. I think I'd flip if I wasn't handed my RRs. I have seen a couple cashiers put the Catalina Qs in the bag, but I promptly took them out and placed them into my wallet.

I will tell you that at the checkout, it is like a crapshoot.

Wondering if I am going to get all of the RRs for the items that I have purchased.

Nowadays, before checking out, I will count the number of RR item that I should be getting RRs for and then wait to see how many I actually do receive from that Catalina printer (el Diablo) at the checkout.

It is more drama at the checkout!

    +

Another thing that gets me ...

Some of the RRs just say:

    "Thank You For Your Purchase."

Hey Freddie, I want to know what generated this RR because Walgreens, in their infinite wisdom, has declared that an identical RR used for the same item will not generate a new RR.

    Seems 'scamish' to me.

    +

I ask you (ladies and gentlemen of the jury) ...

    Q) How difficult is it to include the name of the item (not the manufacturer) that generated that RR, printed on the RR?

One thing I can do is look at the expiration date of the RR to determine that it was generated two weeks earlier.

    +

Here is another thought to ponder ...

    Q) Just what percentage of RRs issued go unredeemed?

I has got to be in the double digits ... I am guessing at least 30%.

Our friends (or is it 'fiends') at Walgreens are laughing all the way to the bank because they do not have to payout for those unredeemed RRs.

Check on the right of the RR, around the barcode. The company names are in that area now (on most of the RRs).
As for WAG saving money by RRs not being redeemed, the Manufacturer is the one who pays/reimburses for the RRs. So, WAG isn't gaining or losing money on RRs.

I just checked, it looks like the sponsor's name and a mailing address.

Product name would be more nice and more thoughtful for the customer.

"Thank you for purchasing Fusion MVP razor on Saturday, 10/10/2009."

    They have the technology.

Oh, the Walgreens chain of stores havs a vested interest in RRs.

Even if it is the manufacturer that is doing the reimbursing ...

    • RRs generate more foot traffic for the stores

    • RRs move merchandise (which gives Walgreens a nice chunk of change)

    • RRs let shoppers know that Walgreens carries that item

    • RRs establish brand loyalty

    • RRs let Walgreens advertise to the world that they offer selected items at bargain prices, sometimes 'free' (while socking it to the customer with the other items in the store)

    +

Products that I would not even have given them a look, I do now if there is a decent RR offered for its purchase.

Heck, you can give the products away as gifts (in a gift basket).

    Roll those RRs!

    Another RR item ...

    Catalina printing machines.

    Q) Are the online / working or out-of-order or out of paper?

Lately, I first ask the cashier about the status of the Catalina printer BEFORE starting my checkout routine.

    Ah, 'many a blank stare.'

If the Mfr or product name isn't written on the Register Rewards when I get them I take the two minute to write the product name on them that generated it and the Mfr when I get home from the store.

Register Rewards are like rebates, most people don't pay any attention to them and they go unredeemed. Walgreen's benefits from that but who can blame them if the consumer isn't using them or doing the offered rebates. some people just can't be bothered.
