A LONGGG list of excuses why my RR's didn't print....
At a 24-hour Wags earlier today - 4am. This specific Walgreens Catalina machines are some of the worst in the area but it IS a 24-hour store, so I still frequent it.
Made 3 purchases - using both MQ's and RR's. My new RR's printed out just fine for all three transactions.
Attempting 4th transaction - again using MQ's and RR's - when just as we are finishing up the transaction I start to hear ALL of the nearby Catalina machines start *clicking* away. I knew there would be trouble.
Just as I had thought - no RR's printed. I mention to the cashier that all of the machines must have gone offline since I did hear them all start to click/reset. I am told that this could not be the case because they ONLY reset/ go offline ONCE a day and it is right after midnight.
I am told that they did not print because I used too many MQ's in combination with RR's. - EXCUSE #1 (I deny that this is why they did not print)
Manager is called. He wants to do an exchange for the items to attempt to get the RR's to print and to avoid having to pull all my Q's/RR's by voiding the original sale. Cashier becomes insistant that he void it and re-ring it because as she claims - the reason they are not printing is due to me using too many RR's/MQ's.
So, manager listens to cashier (not sure why????) and voids the sale, re-rings everything including all my MQ's, RR's, and in-ad Q's.
RR's still do not print. Cashier is very proud of herself saying - "see it is because if you use over a certain amount of MQ's and RR's the new RR's will not print. In a very know-it-all manner, she tells me if I do not use any RR's in the transaction then the new ones will print. EXCUSE #2 - RR's will not print if you use any RR's.
So, just to see what her new reason will be I let her ring up some other items using only MQ's and No RR's. Guess what? - NOTHING PRINTED.
So now cashier claims that the reason they did not print is because one of the MQ's was for a free item - EXCUSE #3.
We try the same transaction all over again at a different register but without the free item MQ - and you guessed - still NOTHING. Casher NOW insists they won't print because I used MQ's in the transaction. - EXCUSE #4
Cashier grabs one of my items and arrogantly holds it up and says, "If I ring this item up all by itself with no RR or MQ, a RR will absolutely print for it." I am just waiting to see when they will finally relent that the machines are NOT working - period.
Cashier rings up item all by its lonesome - no MQ's, no RR's, just payment with my CC. And Guess What?????? NO REGISTER REWARD.
Cashier is now scrambling to tell me that the item I have is the wrong one and will not get RR's. EXCUSE #5.
I tell her the RR sign is up on the shelf and I would gladly get it for her. She wants to go herself, which she does - and returns proclaiming to teh manager and I that the reason the RR did not print this time is because the item is now on clearance. EXCUSE # 6 (Mind you - I had purchased this same item at another store earlier in the day, on clearance, with a MQ and RR and my new one printed out)
So I tell her - lets try the Aquafresh all by itself with NO RR's or MQ's since it should definitely print according to her theories. And once again - NO REGISTER REWARD!!!
Now that she was out of excuses/reasons she had to finally relent that there was something wrong with the Catalina machines. HELLLOOOOO??!!! You work at Wags - not me.
It was amazing how her whole tune changed. Now she was trying to act all sweet and nice when before she was acting like I had no idea what I was talking about, rolling her eyes, and acting as if the whole thing was a bother to her. She was getting off on trying to prove me wrong and would just not admit that she was in fact the WRONG one.
In the meantime the manager is acting like a wallflower - letting this cashier run the show.
So - over 20 minutes later from when my original RR's wouldn't print, manager is scrambling to void the SIX extra "test" transactions.
Claimed there was nothing he could do since obviously NOW something was wrong with the machines. I mention that some stores will just put the RR money onto a gift card instead. I thought this would only be fair since by this time I have wasted over 30+ minutes of my time (besides all teh time I spent shopping) and now couldn't get any of the merchandise. Cashier said they are cracking down on this (she seems to be the spokesman for the manager) and therefore manager wouldn't do it.
One void almost didn't get done - which I would have been charged on my CC for. It wasn't until I asked them to look at the other register for another receipt - which was later found crumpled up in the garbage.
I pulled the manager aside and told him that if he had just went about exchanging out the items like he originally planned on doing (without RR's or MQ's) we would have come to the same conclusion a whole lot faster. :whistle67:
And PS - I already have a call in to the DM - from another matter - so he will be getting an earful when I hear from him, hopefully today.

Oh wow. Gotta love Wags... Clearly that manager has "management" issues. You don't let a lowly cashier run your store. All those refunds in that small amount of time will look very fishy.

Being new to all this, sure gets me wondering about all variations that can happen. I haven't been to WAGs around here yet because I just started all this. But it sure has me wanting to see what will happen when I finally go. LOL

that manager really has to step it up. letting the cashier "walk" all over him like that. He was right from the start in how to figure out the problem. If he had held his ground the problem would have been solved a lot faster.
Sorry you had to deal with that. I probably would have been laughing the whole time.

With all due respect, what did you try to accomplish by arguing with that employees?
You suspect (and likely you were right) that all catalina machines went offline, will not print your coupon. Why didn't you ask the them to reset the machines, if not possible or they wouldn't comply just tell them to void your transaction and leave? Or get your receipt and call Catalina to receive your RR? Your RR would come in a couple weeks, and you'd avoid 30 min + aggravation in the store.
BTW, if you knew it happened often with catalina macines in that store, you might want to tell Catalina company anyway, they might send a serviceman to look at the problem.

There were some things that could have been done differently. Waiting 6-8 week for cats in the mail is not one of them. No reason for that. I'd ask them to refund everything and go elsewhere. It's not a "register reward" if you have to work and wait forever to get it in the mail.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my oh so long post and also for being sympathetic to my situation. It always feels good to know that my fellow Wags shoppers can relate to these things! (Know one else understand quite like you do. :smile:)

I am sure you could understand that after spending quite a while in the store shopping - nevertheless at 4am., and then taking the time to get all my transactions in order with the correct coupons/ RR's etc., I did not just want to get the transaction voided and leave.
It has been my experience (on a number of occassions) when RR's do not print. Every single manager has made the situation right by trying to get the RR's to print. And in a situation like last night, where the RR's would not ultimately print, the managers have all done one of three things - 1: Put the RR amount on a gift card, 2: Hand me the RR amount in cash, or 3: Dig out other RR's from the coupon envelope totaling the amount I should have received and hand them to me.
I have NEVER had to an outcome where the manager would not do anything to rectify the situation. Therefore I stayed in the store since I had already wasted quite a bit of time. My thought process was, that once they figured out it was not ME (my transactions) but it was the machines fault, the manager would do one of the three above options.
Or get your receipt and call Catalina to receive your RR? Your RR would come in a couple weeks, and you'd avoid 30 min + aggravation in the store. Sadly if I would would have left and called Catalina for the RR's I would have been left with NO register rewards to roll. I would have had to pay out of pocket for any future deals until I started to accumulate more rewards. I was expecting 4-5 RR's to print which I would have needed since I used up all my others in that transaction.
