Default I've been banned from walgreens for being overcharged

Yes, I was banned from Walgreens because I asked for my $2.04 back that I was overcharged last night.

Ok, here is the entire story (this is going to be long):
Last night I went to Walgreens to get some envelopes and one of the store re-usable bags (using the in ad coupons of course) and my husband picked up a memory chip for his camara, we had $40 in rr's to burn so I thought, why not?
Well, I thought my total was a little high but did not take the time to check my receipt while at the store, my husband is disabled and was in some pain and needed to sit down so we hurried out after paying.

Tonight I go back to the store with my receipt and show the assistant manager that was on duty how the cashier did not take off the in ad coupons for the bag and envelopes. Well, he says that I would've had to purchase 3 of the bags to get the deal anyway, since the coupon said 3/$1 and if I go home and get my merchandise and bring it back to the store then he will give me a refund. I told him that I did not want to return my products just get the money back that I over paid, he again said that I did not buy 3 bags so I did end up paying the correct price for one bag. Well, I asked why the cashier wouldn't have told me that instead of just not using the coupon in the first place...also, what about the envelopes that I got, why didn't I get the discount for those?
He said he was sorry for the error but policy states that he has to see the merchandise before he can give me the correct price, and again said that the bag was the correct price anyway since I did not buy three, so I told him to go get a bag and ring it up, then scan the coupon and lets see what happens, he did this and the discount was applied to the one bag. So, I asked for my money back
He said that I need to bring all the merchandise back with the receipt to prove that I was the one that bought this stuff and didn't just pick up the receipt off the ground or something then he would give me my money back.
At this point I was shocked that this was going to be a problem, so I said, well if I did pick up this receipt off the ground then the person that lost it won't be back for their money back so just give me my $2.
He again said that it is policy to have the product in hand as well as the receipt before any money can be given back to the customer. I told him to show me that policy and I would be happy to go home, get my merchandise and return to the store...he glared at me like a dear in the headlights...then says to me, you leave now or I am calling the police.

Oh no you did not just say that to me...I responded, call them! I have proof that you overcharged me and you refuse to give me my money or a copy of the policy. He stomps to the phone and I calmly walk behind him, he tells the dispatcher that he has an irate customer in the store that he has offered to help but now I won't leave.

Well, when he hangs up I say:
Irate customer, yes I am upset but have not in any way gotten out of line with you and you have never asked me how you can help me, you told me to return with the items and the receipt but you have not offered any help to me.
He responded" do you really want to do this for $2", to which I said "do you"
He said fine, I will give you a refund but don't come back to this store again.
I mean, really, would I even think about walking in that store again?
so I said "Oh, don't worry, I will NEVER darken that doorstep again", he said good then let me give you your money.
I, again told him that if he can show me the policy about refunding overcharged amounts with receipt and product in hand then I will leave and come back with the items...he told me that policy is all items must be returned with all tags, in original condition with copy of receipt to receive any money back
oh well, darn, the cashier pulled of the tag of the bag to use it for the other stuff I bought so I still wouldn't get my money back anyway...I said that to him too and he looked at me and said
phhh, now WHY would she take tags off of YOUR stuff?
I said: aren't you listening, it's a bag, which she used to bag my other stuff in.
then he hands me my $2.04 and says here
so I say "sorry for the trouble" and held my head high as I walked out the door (never to return again)

OMG, sorry this is so long, I was shocked that it turned into such a turmoil for $2
I never got angry, just stated the facts and he would not budge, till he had called the cops anyway. oh well, thanks for letting me rant!

wowzers....that deserves a call to corporate/district I think...if you didn't start yelling back at him, the nerve to call the police is absurd

I forgot in that long story to say that I had asked for the number to corporate after he wrang up the bag and the coupon still worked. He gave me the number and I called it but there was no one there so I had to leave a message.
Don't get me wrong, I did raise my voice but in NO WAY did I yell at him, he raised his too, but I would not say he yelled either.

I'd have gotten the merchandise and brought it to him. He did tell you he'd give the refund and apologize for the mistake.

I wouldn't have burned that bridge. I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I think you made a mistake here, OP.

FWIW, my stores won't issue refunds for anything w/o the merchandise in hand. And someone on my Shoprite forum got into it w/ a manager over a turkey that was frozen when it should've been fresh (or something like that). She was right, still had to turn over the turkey to be reimbursed the difference. It's foolish management since they lose the sale & can't resell the item, but there you are.

Ya'll really need to think before you burn bridges like that. Seriously, there's no need to call corporate or elevate this to that level over $2, when the manager agreed to refund the money with merchandise in hand. You've forfeited SO many more deals over $2 and making your point.

that store is out of my way, it would cost more than the $2 in gas.
Now if he could have shown me the policy then I would have eaten that $2 and chalked it up to not paying attention when I should, I have had to do that before.

I am not worried about burning that bridge, there are closer Walgreens to me and to where I work. But I understand where you are coming from with that statement.

Sorry have to agree with Mama22qts on this one...Is it worth being banned from the store for $2.00??

Well, I'm really sorry that you're so upset but he DID tell you what you had to do to get what you wanted and you refused to do it. From your own account, he told you several times and you refused several times. All you had to do was go home, bring back the stuff, have him return it and re-ring it and get your $2. Sounds like you made this choice and now you're going to have to deal with the consequences.
