Walgreens : Help me figure out why this happened ?

I gave my husband his list and he came home with :
3 Green Bags $1
3 Barilla 3/$1
2 Right Guards $2.59 each
He gave coupons in following order :
$3 RR
$3 RR
$1 RG Q
Then came the RG store Q
Then the Green Bags store Q

Subtotal - 1.02
- .01 in Tax
Refund $1.03

Now for my question ! How did he wind up getting money back ???
I can see the math, but I didnt think that you would get change for a RR.

Hello I live in the Springfield area as well just outside the city limits. The Springfield stores I have been told are in two different districts. Some of the stores on the south side of town are in the same district as the Nixa, Ozark area I have had the same thing happen at two of these stores, the one on the corner of Republic Road and Scenic and the one on the corner of Republic Road and National. I do not know why these two stores will give refunds. If this happened at any of the other stores I would say possibly a new cashier, or a cashier who did not care because they do not normally give refunds I have been told against policy.

Have you heard we may soon have two CVS stores? One is supposed to be being built this summer and fall at Lone Pine and Battlefield.

In your scenario you gave the price of the Wags bags after Wags Q (3/$1), the Barilla pasta is actually 3/$3 but I think you just mistyped, the culprit in your scenario is that you put down the price of the Right Guard before Wags Q at $2.59 each while after Wags Q they were .99 each or $1.98/2.

3 Bags = $1 (after Wags Q)
3 Barilla Pasta = $3 (after Wags Q)
2 Right Guard = $1.98 (after Wags Q)
-$3 RR
-$3 RR
-$1 RG MQ
Total = -$1.02 before tax

Oops! Just reread your post. They gave you money back because the computer said so... is all I can think of. I doubt my stores would do that! I usually give the RR last to make sure my subtotal covers them, but they are very strict with RRs where I live (one per transaction).

I did have a manager at Safeway try to give me $4 and change when I just wanted to return and rebuy a purchase (it was BOGO) the same day I bought it so the receipt would look right for a rebate. I had to insist to him that I would not take the money and that it was his. All I wanted was the receipt that had a purchase price next to the product I was trying to get a rebate on (originally it rang up as $0.00 next to the product due to the BOGO, I just wanted to reverse which product had the purchase price next to it). He thinks I'm crazy and I avoid him now. :shrug7:

My husband doesn't either, after I went to Kmart double coupons and got 9 tubes of toothpaste for sales tax only. He put the receipt on display on the fridge.

WOW !!! My dh and I were just thinking about how aweful it would be if we lost out one and only CVS. This is GREAT news !!

Well, its funny you mention that, because he was NOT an easy convert. He is the guy you heard in CVS saying (loudly) "Toothpaste?!? We already have 5 ! Why do you need another one ?!?" LOL - He is better now. I dropped him off at work and came home with my free bag from wags ( the only stop I could get in and still stay ahead of a nasty storm) it contains 2 Titanium razors, 1 St Ives, a Big roll of packing tape (1.59 clearance), 1 Right Guard ( last one) and the grand total was 2.38. I sent him a pic w/ my cell LOL. It could have been free but I was in a huge hurry to beat the storm as the sky had turned back to night during the 5 minutes that I was in the store. So..... instead of figuring a filler, and using my $3 ( milk/cookies) RR I just paid the 2.38 and bolted.I didnt want to assume that Id get change back like my lucky DH. Am I the only one who makes the perfect scenario for her DH to use instead of taking it herself ? I just find it so fun =0)

When we were just married and lived near a CVS, my hubby MADE me toss the ECB's each time because they were just "a waste of time". He cringes now when he remembers that.
