HELP Walgreens and best way to get started

Okay, I have CVS down and can roll them like there is no tomorrow.

But Walgreens and the RR seem to be a different thing altogether. What is the best way to get started on this? Are the RR tied to a card, or can you use them and get as many as you want? :shrug7:

I know these questions are answered on this forum somewhere, but thought it may be easier for someone like me, just starting out, to see this thread.

    Thanks in advance!

Walgreens is not nearly as much fun as it used to be now that they dont have the rebate book anymore :(

anyways RRs cant be rolled in the same deal and you can't earn for more than one of the same deal in one transaction.... Walgreens doesnt have a customer card...

for example this week the only RR deal I was interested in was the st ives 2.99 and get 3 RR back. you have to have each st ives rung up separately to get the RRs for all of them. and if you use a st ives RR to pay for another you will not get another RR in that transaction.

Also you can only use as many manufacturers coupons AND RRs combined as you have items. so if you have 5 items and have a mfr coupon for each item and want to pay the balance with an RR you would need a filler that you dont have a coupon for. Walgreens coupons dont count towards that (like the ad coupons).

    there is no card

Say you want the St Ives deal this week... YOu buy 1, use a Q if you have one, you pay. You get a Catalina that says $x.xx of you r next purchase.

You CANNOT roll RR. If you try to use the St Ives RR to get anotehr St IVes deal, the next one will NOT print.

You CAN use a St Ives RR to buy a "whirligig" that has a RR, and use the "whirlygig" RR to pay for the St Ives. (as long as they aren't the same company)

RR expire WAY sooner than ECB as well

    Does that help a little???

Walgreens is a bit trickier than CVS, IMO. Sometimes it works out great (when they have some good freebies, or "near" freebies), but not always working out. Because, like the previous post said, you cannot roll RR with same item or even same manufacturers - for example: Say, you purchased Colgate Total last week and generated $2 RR, and this week, they have Colgate Visible White that generates $4 RR. If you use that previous 2 RR (issued by Colgate-Palmolive company) to purchase Colgate Visible White, it will NOT generate a new RR (I'd make sure to check the RR - they state "complimentary of XX company").

RR expires within 2 wks of original purchased date (say, if you bought something today - Monday June 15th, your RR will expire on Monday June 29th).. or at least that's the case in my area.

So because of these reasons, I try to keep my Walgreens trip fairly small, because even if I make a great deal out of RR this week, I have 2 wk window of opportunity to spend them all, and I can't always "roll" them easily (especially when I have a lot of $1 RR's since I can only use one RR OR ManQ PER item). I usually end up using "I don't know what to do with these RR's" for buying newspapers or other things I need immediately and/or will pay full price for anyways (which are not common, but do exist).

Because there is no card/account tied, Walgreens can be a great deal - because you can pretty much do the RR deals indefinitely (in theory). But on the other hand, there are few more "thinking" to do before shopping b/c of the short lifespan of RR and not being able to "roll" easily. I mean just like everywhere else, there are pros and cons. (and I think I've just repeated myself.. again)

... Going to shop with plans always help (I'm sure you're doing that already with CVS so that shouldn't be an issue). And checking out future AD's here and elsewhere to "plan out" so you're not totally stuck with tons of RR's that's more than you can use (I mean, that's really a personal call) and know what you can get to roll it later.
