Yea I read about that in their meeting transcript from Feb, sounds like a lot of their moves are to compete with CVS. I guess I will go to Wags this week just to check out the clearance items :)
I went in for the clearance TP..Got bunches!! The manager was very helpful and let me know about the other items on clearance (stationary etc)..I asked him why the 4pk rolls were clearanced to $0.47 and he said that there has been alot of market research that suggests that the smaller pk tissues don't sell as well as the bigger ones. (That didn't make much sense to me because they were clearanced to $1.39) Anyway, he said that Wags will be completely eliminating the top shelves in the stores!!??!! Again, said research showed that the top shelf was above eye level and those items never sell quickly. They are also on a mission to reduce inventory and eliminate those items that are not big sellers for them. He told me to go around and check alot of the top shelves and you'll see alot of those items on clearance. He said the clearance sale will go on until the stuff expires or is gone. I'm going back tomorrow with my binder so I can take my time and really go through every aisle. I also believe that there may be things that weren't marked for clearance yet, but may soon be. Worth keeping your eyes open.![]()
I hope your shopping trips are filled with great deals and excellent customer service.

I shop at Kroger, Walmart, Meijer and Walgreens
Thanks for sharing the info and giving us the heads-up, savalotmom. Very interesting to hear a little something about the store's inner workings and the store's reasons for certain pricing and stock decisions.
warcraftbaby, how did you come to read Walgreens' meeting transcript from February? Do you work at Walgreens or is it online somewhere?
So, does CVS do some of the things mentioned in OP's post? Like not sell small 4-packs of bath tissue, not use top shelves higher than eye level, and make it a mission to reduce inventory and eliminate items that are not big sellers for them?
warcraftbaby, you said it sounds like a lot of Walgreens' moves are to compete with CVS. What other moves, besides the aforementioned, is Walgreens taking that sounds like they are trying to compete better with CVS?
I guess I will have to go to Wags AND CVS this week, just to compare the height of their top shelves. LOL. Seriously, I never really noticed before.
Now that you mention it, CVS shelves are much shorter. I am 5'2" and most of CVS's top shelves are at my eye level. Tonight while stocking up on TP at Wags I had to stand on a bottom shelf and barely poke the bottom pack to get the stack to fall down enough for me to reach!![]()
I was also told that clearing out the top shelf would help identify shoplifters, I guess the inventory can block the camera view? WAGs seems pretty serious about theft, what with the huge mirror on the back wall and locked bathrooms.
well that is one thing i like about wags is the high shelves, lol, at cvs i always feel like everyone is looking at me, lol. But i am 5'8" so i have been noticing a lot of clearance one the high wags shelves lately.
New baby in the house so I am couponing lightly!
Went last Wed to our local WAGS and was pleased to find "123" Energizer Lith. Camera Batteries on sale for @ 3.50 (gasp, I don't use digital camera), LEGGS panyhose for like $1.20 (bought one pair for that one time a year I need some), a sprayer to hook up to our hose to give the dogs a bath for less than 1.50, chapstick for .75, AngelSoft that day for the 6 or 8pk (it was bigger than a 4pk) was 3.40 (didn't buy the TP), anyway I was a happy camper because haven't been RR'ing much. Guess I'll have to head back and check it out every coupla days.
Thanks for the tip OP.
Yes, I was told basically the same thing about a month ago when they had a ton of food clearanced. They said that they were going to "bring down the height" of all of the shelves and that they were eliminating many items in order to be able to do so....I have a store that just opened aboutt 6 weeks ago though and I haven't really looked, but I think even that one still has the larger style shelves...
This is really true...At walgreens, One time when I tried to reach for a cereal box , a canned soup hit me on my face and I got little blood & swelling too...I am really scared to reach their top shelves.
