| Re: CURRENT: Walgreens Ad 5/31-6/6 (full ad scan) IF YOU NEED DIAPERS:
There is a Huggies Megasaver deal going on right now...I can't remember the dates but I believe it goes through next week, too. When you buy a Jumbo pack of Huggies Snug & Dry, you get a 14-count pack of Walgreens Comfort-Stretch diapers for free ($3.99 value). Combine that with $1.50 Huggies coupons (that's all I had)...& it ends up being a better deal than the 5.99 Walgreens diapers this week, so a decent way to use those Meter RRs on some diapers! Here were my transactions:
$9.99 1 Huggies Snug and Dry Size 3 (40 ct)
FREE 1 Walgreens Comfort-Stretch (14 ct)
$4.99 1 4-pack Bic Soleil Razors
-$1.50 Huggies q
-$3 Bic Soleil q
-$10 Bayer Meter RR

$9.99 1 Huggies Snug and Dry Size 1 (56 ct)
FREE 1 Walgreens Comfort-Stretch (14 ct)
$4.99 1 4-pack Bic Soleil Razors
-$1.50 Huggies q
-$3 Bic Soleil q
-$10 Bayer Meter RR

Originally Posted by kidsrn So I went to Wags the other day to use my last 3 meter qs and lo and behold there were still 4 monitors behind the Pharmacy (you can see what monitors are there b/c they are right behind the counter in the Pharmacy). I politely asked the man for 3 of them, he said sure, handed them over and I went on my way. Headed to the hair dryer section (bought 2 of the 4 there) and then wandered for about 2 or 3 minutes. I saw the one pharmacist watching me as I was loitering by the toothpaste and then I saw her walk by when I was searching for the ]clearance Reynolds wrap (awesome deal----70 sq foot roll is clearanced for 82 cents---but there were none left). I thought it was a little strange but whatever. When I went up front to check out my fav cashier was there and as I walked up she said "oh, you're the meter lady. You can only buy one of those BECAUSE THE PHARMACIST SAID YOU ARE MAKING TOO MUCH MONEY OFF OF THEM." No kidding. I quote. I was quite surprised as I have never had a quantity limit on anything I have purchased at the store, but whatever. I paid and then gave my cashier one of my coupons and she bought the meter right then and got her $10 RR (she offered to give it to me---but I have so many and was trying to make a point---you'll see) and then the lady that came up while the cashier was doing her meter deal asked us what are you guys doing? And so I explained it to her and then said "would you like to make $10 off of Walgreens?" that lady was so excited she almost wet her pants! :-) But the BEST part is that the same pharmacist came up at the very end of this lady's transaction and said to me (in a very accusatory tone) you are only allowed to get 1 meter ---you will need to return the other 2 and give me the RR for each of them. I smiled sweetly and said but ma'am, I only purchased 1---other customers saw the meters and they bought them. I was only being nice by sharing my coupons since I couldn't use them. I thought she was going to explode. I said to her that it was not my fault that Wags had not thought it out when they did this deal----and I really appreciated them helping me out with a tight budget. Oh, it was like a Mastercard commercial----priceless. :-) | But Walgreens MAKES money on this deal. When you buy a meter for $10 and use the MC to take $10 off, Walgreens gets reimbursed $10 from the manufacturer for that coupon -- so it is the same to them as if you paid in cash. Also, when you later buy $10 worth of stuff and pay with the $10 RR, Walgreens will get reimbursed by the manufacturer for the $10 RR. So Walgreens makes a profit not only on that meter but also on whatever you buy with the $10 RR.
I think it is VERY important for us couponers to point this out WHENEVER any cashier, manager, store employee, etc says anything along the lines of "our store loses money" with these coupons. I point out how it works at every opportunity letting employees know that the store makes a lot of money from couponers. I feel that by letting them know that we are not the bad guys -- (i.e. making the store lose money) -- then they will treat us much better and be less skeptical/scrutinizing every coupon we try to use.
I'm sure that the pharmacist is under the mistaken impression that coupons come straight out of Walgreens bottom line. So she needs to be corrected. |

| Re: CURRENT: Walgreens Ad 5/31-6/6 (full ad scan) Yes I had this issue the other day when I was buying a boatload of chinet plates. I used RR and coupons (within the limits) and the asst. manager said... I have to be careful so we don't lose money here... I pointed out that the manufacturer coupons were reimbursing them the face value AND the pennies it pays on top... and that contrary to her belief, the RR was a MANUFACTURER coupon too... and pointed out where it says that, the reimbursing paragraph etc... and as she handed me the change from my $2 oop order... she smiled and said... have a nice day...
