Default Walgreens Should I complain or was cashier reasonable?

Went to Wags today and got a few things including 2 glade candles, 1 skintimate, 1 chapstick, coke/candy deal, and some easter stuff to eat up overage from an RR. I put another chapstick and skintimate to the side and asked the cashier if that could be rung up in a seperate transaction. She didn't say anything but slowly proceeded with my first order. Looking over every coupon and then the price of everything I was buying....fine. Back by the Glade candles the had a tearpad with the $2 ES coupon. I gave her two of those to make things easier then flipping through the book for them. I guess she didn't like the looks of the stores own coupons because she wanted to find the Glade coupon in the book herself. No problem. The simple transaction had already taken easily 5 minutes by then and a line was starting to build behind me. She kept looking at the $2 store coupon and the $4 glade IP. She then told me I couldn't use the $4 Glade coupon because then the candles would be free. To which I replied, "they should work just fine." Of course, when she tried, they scanned with no problems. FINALLY I pay for that transaction. I think to myself, "ok, the chapstick and skintimate should be easy and quick- no coupons." To my surprise she starts flipping through the weekly ad. OH NO. By now I'm getting totally embarrassed because there are poor customers behind me wondering what is taking so long. Not to mention my 2 year old has just about had it. I finally say something like, " I don't think there are any coupons in there for that stuff." She rings the products up and it seems like she tries to hurry me out with an "ok, bye..." while moving on to the next customer. Of course, I stand there waiting for my RRs to print. SHe looks me square in the eye and says, "I'm suppose to limit you." I get my RRs and go on my way without a word.

Looking back it seems like she was searching through the ad to find a limit posted on the chapstick and skintimate. She obviously was also hoping I would "miss" receiving my RRs for the 2nd deal (at least it seemed that way). I know they can limit but shouldn't it be reasonable? I don't feel my two chapsticks and shave gels weren't excessive for our family of 4 and there were plenty more for others. Sorry it was long but what do you guys think? I'm very passive usually and never complain but it seems like several Wags around here don't train their cashiers very well. I feel like maybe I should complain to corporate so other customers don't have to be unfairly treated the way I am. They SHOULD know how to use Qs too. Grrr....

I don't think you were being greedy, etc. Maybe there had been some customers who came in and did like 7 chapsticks back to back and the cashier was wary? I think it all depends on the cashier. Too bad that had to happen but I wouldn't worry..I think it was reasonable.

HI Re: Should I complain or was cashier reasonable?

I would complain. But that's just me. I am sick of being treated badly for using coupons.

A similar thing happened to me this morning with a newer cashier at a store I used to pre-order at all the time so the manager, AM's and most other cashiers know me.

I did 3 transactions and she got snippy saying what I was doing "wasn't right" (using the Softsoap RR more than once).

When I returned home I called the manager and mentioned the fact that she got very snippy with me for doing 3 B2B trans and there was no need for it. The cashier also complained that I wasn't *paying* for the Softsoap by using the RR...

I mentioned to her (the cashier) the fact that it was adverstised. Her response? "Oh, I hadn't even looked at the ad yet this week." I also mentioned this to the manager via phone.

I don't appreciate being talked to like that, not to mention, with the economy the way it it, these store should be happy to have our business.

I think the cashiers are afraid of the Qs. one of the wags I went to yesterday was leary to separate my transactions due to MIR limitations or something. She said something about them needed to limit them. I dont know what the heck she was talking about

After my experience yesterday with a manager, I am thinking corporate has been saying some stuff about coupon usage. The employees (even the managers) seem to have taken this to heart and are assuming all couponers are somehow ripping them off.
I would send an email to Wags telling them what you did and there was nothing wrong with what you did but the cashier made you feel like you were trying to do something wrong.
The manager I had yesterday told me "I know what you are doing! You are making money! I can't let you back in the store today!"
My first transaction was 4 12pk Pepsi, 2 boxes of cereal and 1 chapstick. I had an OOP of about $12. Then I decided to use the $2 rr from the cereal to get 2 Softsoaps. This is when the manager told me what she did. Does anyone see where I was making money? I tried telling her I was just getting good deals. She was pretty mad when the RR popped out for the second free Softsoap. Luckily one of the register receipts had a survey and I told them just what I thought.
If we are going by the rules, we should speak up when they make us feel bad. I am sorry some folks abuse the system, but I am not one of them and do not want to be treated like a bad person. I am spending plently of money at Wags. (I just get way more stuff!!!!!)

I'm pretty passive too...I don't want to make waves, however, I don't think 2 is excessive. I probably wouldn't complain unless it happened alot. I went today and bought the 4 pepsi 12 packs...I was going to pay with the RRs I had from the chapstick and skintimate. The checker told me I wouldn't get the pepsi RR if I paid with an RR....I really don't think that was right, but I just paid...I am pretty passive too and hate to make waves....I also had my two year old and a big long line...ha, ha! But I'll be back tomorrow. :-)

Everyone has different standards, but I don't think it is very fair if some of the Wags allow people to make 10 transactions and they wipe the shelves of the "free" items. I've been caught many times where they were out and it is really disappointing.

In my opinion, puting limits on some items is perfectly ok for a store manager to do (only to be fair to others for the rest of the sale). It even says there are limits in the ads. Kinda like the glitch with the SoftSoap yesterday. Cashier said one lady wiped out their whole stock which is rediculous. Now no-one can go in a get a bottle of the sale item because of her. But.........to see that you have gotten a good deal (or free) and limit you because of that is wrong. You are just doing smart shopping. I would have complained in front of everyone. ***I would have said something like "Yes I am getting it for FREE. Your ad says Its like getting it FREE in bold print so thats what I intend to do. If your store didnt want me to get it FREE then they should definatly not print it in its ad"***

P.S. I have also seen a cashier take a RR that printed for a customer in front of me and put it behing the register and not give it to the customer.....hmmmmmm wonder why ??. Anyways, I pay way too much attention for that to happen to me.

read the RR fine print ... some of them DO say "can't be used on ___ (company's) products ... P&G is famous for this

"funny" thing about this. Was in store Saturday evening, and one of their advertisements through sound system was saying something to the effect of we're saving you money, come "clear off our shelves!" ... would love to be in a store when I'm getting the last 2-3 of an item, and someone start fussing at me, and have THAT commercial come on THEIR overhead!!!!! ... HARD to argue with Corporate advertisement!

When I do take the last 2-3 off the shelves, I apologize to mgr, but let them know it's last day of sale/rebate (whatever). At my fav store, they always tell me, "don't worry about it, you're only getting 2-3!!"

I don't think the cashier was being reasonable at all. Two shave gels and chapsticks and she makes a crack about limiting you! Good gravy!

COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN!!!!!! These cashiers at these stores are getting really really disgusting when it comes to coupons. Now I understand that some of them have instructions from corporate. That's fine. But it's the attitude that they take w/ customers. They act as if they are being asked to pay for our merchandise. They are not doing any of us favors by scanning our coupons, rather they are doing THEIR JOB! So yes call and make your complaint. People should not feel intimidated simply for usuing a coupon. The fact that a person wants to do separate transactions is none of their business. There have been plenty of times where I have seen ppl do this. And there are a number of reasons for it.
