| Re: Walgreens BRAG THREAD: post your brags here ) So like typical of me, I forgot to scan one of the coupons from the ESC, duh me! So anyways realized it after I left, and came back, I wanted to get a coupon refund. Which for me is huge, since I hate doing that, but anyways, I go and tell the cashier what I did. She laughed and said no prob, they (the cashiers) get so busy sometimes and forget to scan the coupons. What? She said she trys to remember what coupons are in the book so we can get better deals! I went to that wags like 5 different times, each cashier was just awesome and helpful! Way to go Wags in Burlington, Wisconsin. I was visiting family, and don't live down there anymore, but sure wish I did!

| Re: Walgreens BRAG THREAD: post your brags here ) I don't know if this belongs in the brag thread or not. I was planning to follow up with an explanation of my earlier post for this week, that got moved here, but now I hope I don't take this too far off topic.
Some folks may think I am just plain greedy, and that I give couponers a bad name. It might be sour grapes since they don't have the stores I have access to, but it doesn't matter what they rep me.
What matters to me is the thanks that I got when I dropped off 412 bottles of Garnier at the women's shelter this morning. I know I've made a positive difference in their lives.
The woman volunteering at the shelter this morning told me the following story as we unloaded my van. Seems a little over two years ago she he had been in an abusive relationship involving her mom and her mom's boyfriend, and after a fight she left both her mom in the apartment they shared with the boyfriend, to come to the shelter.
She had come in to the shelter the morning I had dropped off a huge load of stuff, lotions, shampoo, deodorants, etc. She told me that she will always remember how good it felt to get herself cleaned up, so she could get to church and pray for everyone, but to mostly just talk to someone and regain her confidence. The volunteers at the time told her some old guy had just dropped off a bunch of stuff and she was more than welcome to take some with her, it must have been me.
She said she has been grateful to the shelter for their help, and she has volunteered there once a week for the past year. They helped her find housing, where she now lives with her sister and 2 month old niece.
Sadly, her mom was arrested for dealing drugs, and is in jail. The ex-boyfriend moved to another state. She says she is praying all the time that her mom can get herself cleaned up.
I've been donating for many many years, and most of the time my visits to the women's shelter are met with a sense of tension, especially by the staff who if they don't know me, are very suspicious of men in particular. This was the first time someone opened up to me to share the details of how I played a small part in helping her get her life straightened out.
I thanked her for her volunteer work, told her I am happy to help in the way that I can, but it's people like her that make the most difference in these women's lives.
So now you know why I'm not sure this belongs in the brag thread - I am not looking for any "great job" reps or accolades, etc., and especially don't want replies to this thread to go further off topic. I wanted to share this story in hopes that more people can use their couponing skills to help those who really need it. |
