    Default Bad Wags experience! Anyone explain this to me?

    Terrible Wags experience yesterday. I will be contacting corporate, but they won't do jack about it I'm sure.

    I had $8 RR. My total was $8.10. My RR wouldn't work because the cost pre-tax was less than $8....the cashier couldn't figure out the cost pre-tax to let me know exactly how much I needed to purchase to reach $8. So I bought chapstick for $1. My total was now $9.10, I used my RR and I owed $1.10.

    ....wait a minute

    If I didn't have enough pre-tax, why was my new total EXACTLY $1 over what it was before I bought the $1 chapstick? The register didn't do anything. It just charged me a dollar extra....for the dollar item I purchased.

    Well. Whatever, that is fine....I'm already peeved because they wouldn't accept my $2 Revlon color coupons on nail polish (even though there is a picture of nail polish on the coupon!!!!) So I'm just going to take the stuff and go, not worry about $1. Then the manager comes along. I ask him to explain it to me, and he can't. So his response was, "Well this is AMERICA and we have TAX. That's just the way it is." Thank you for the blazing update, manager! So I said, fine, I'm not dealing with this, I'll just return my chapstick and leave then. So I return it and tell him that this was my first time going to that particular Walgreens and it was a terrible experience that corporate will be hearing about. He says, "Well I should have kept your $8 RR but I didn't. I'm sorry but this is America and America has TAX."

    I left my $8 RR for him gladly, which he apparently wasn't expecting because he tried chasing me down to give them back. I took my items to another Wags, returned them and repurchased them with no problems whatsoever.

    whew...I feel better after that rant.

    I am so sorry that you had this experience. I wish I could be of help, but I live in NH and we don't do the tax thingy.

    I wish you would not have left your $8RR, I would have glady taken it and bought up some chocolate to sit down and eat while we pondered what to say to corporate.

    Why in the world should he have kept your RR, that doesn't make sense! I would have asked him why he should have kept it, what entitles him to keep it?

    I'm rolling my eyes in between typing and thinking that the things that people say sometimes! Taxes in America, who would have ever thunk it!!

    It certainly looks like the register computer would not accept the $8 OYNSO because the subtotal (merchandise total before sales tax) was less than $8, but you already know that. The registers here absolutely will not allow a OYNSO to be redeemed for an amount less than the amount for which they scan. Even for one penny less. So if that is the case, you were the one being unreasonable. Now about the total being $1.10 payable after adding the $1 item, how much the amount was over your tax rate is for you to say. Mine is 8.25%. The following is based on the fact merchants do hot have to collect sales tax on coupon amounts, including store coupons. IF the first subtotal had been $7.99 (and only you can clarify) and I bought $1 item, the new total would expect to be $1.07 or $1.08. So based on that scenario, an "unexplained" two cents would sooo not be something I would fight or even be upset about. Sometimes the register logic figures things a little funny based on whether the coupons get redeemed against taxable or non-taxable merchandise, especially for manual entries. And sometimes I cannot say what logic was used in the programming, but all in all, I would not have considered it a big loss at all, and certainly not something worth fighting with the store personnel.

    I had this problem a few weeks ago. My total was $10.24, I gave her my $10rr and the register beeped and said it was a 6 cent overage. I asked her to void it and I'd give her two other lower $ amount rr's, but she said it was too much trouble. She wanted to give me the 6 cents, but I told her to keep it(didn't want her to get into trouble)
    As you know EVERY wags is different:(

    Maybe I'm reading it wrong or some details were left out, but it reads as if ONLY the chapstick was returned. If she returned just the chapstick, then she would not get the $8 RR back because that went toward the other items first purchased.
    It's 35 cents off of ground round,
    Baby, cut that coupon out!

    crysco,
    I am sorry you had such problems, I have had problems with my wg also but to answer your question I believe with the tax on the $1 item it would have been (depending on your tax rate, mine in 7%) 1.07 you paid 1.10 that would mean .03 was tax carryed from first items purchased so in fact the comp. was correct in not letting you use the rr for less than before tax total or if your # of items were less than q's. Now for the revlon q I have had problems with that also, and I'm sorry I can't be much help with that, it doesn't make sense to me either.

    Now with that said I have to voice my opinion that sometimes the attitude of the store employees make all the difference. Let me explain, I can be wrong, (believe me it happens alot) and can be corrected in a nice way and be fine with it or I can even be right and let it go if treated with respect but if a store employee gives me attitude I tend to push the issue, even if I am proved wrong, I feel the customer should always be treated in the best manner possible. I understand the employees are human too and can get upset with the customer (I have worked retail before and have had to bite my lip several times to appease the customer) but at all times the customer should be treated with respect and with me being right or wrong is less of an issue than if I were treated correctly or not. So if you feel you were treated poorly I can completely see where you are comeing from, however I do agree in what I have read in your post that the rr shouldn't have been accepted before the $1 item was added. However if you returned an item then you should have been returned the cash the item would have cost rather than the rr in my opinion so rather than getting your $8 rr you should have gotten the cash and they keep the rr, I hope that makes sense, and I could be wrong but that is how they have done it for me in the past. hth and better luck shopping wg in the future.

    tax=price X rate

    t= 7.55 X 0.0725
    t= .55

    .55+7.55=8.10

    t=1.00 X 0.0725
    t= 0.07

    1.07

    8.10+1.07=9.17

    Without knowing what items are taxed where you live it's hard to explain the two cent difference. Then you gotta wonder how coupons are tallied do they take off tax or just the face value.

    Anyway, hope you can use the formula it will help you in the future.

    Based on my experience, the RR do not cover sales tax, ever. I bought a sunday paper for $1.88, my total was over $2, but pretax total was $1.88, so I added in walgreens brand nail files ($.69/ea) to use my $2RR. You will always have sales tax oop at walgreens, period. It sounds like the chapstick wasn't taxed, maybe even an oversight in walgreens registers.

    (cvs ecbs, make you owe less tax, ecbs and RR's do not work the same- I sure do like both systems tho!!)

    Maybe I'm not seeing something but it seems pretty straight forward to me. You said your total was $8.10 including tax. Since I don't know your tax rate or items bought, lets call it this:

    $7.50 items
    $ .60 tax

    $8.10 total

    $8 RR won't go through because the items total less than $8 and it can't go toward tax.

    So you add Chapstick for $1 and let's say it isn't taxable. Now you have:

    $1.00 Chapstick
    $7.50 items
    $ .60 tax

    $9.10 total

    You use the $8 RR on your $8.50 worth of items, now the tax isn't a factor since your items are over $8, so they cost $.50 after the RR and you pay the original$.60 tax for $1.10 OOP. I know around me it's hard to figure what is being taxed and what isn't but most coupons states customer must pay any sales tax.
