I was wondering what the heck happened to all the halloween stuff. It was just all gone, replaced with tons of christmas stuff.
Don't expect to see your halloween candy go beyong 50%. The assistant manager told me that starting this month (november) that the stores are not allowed to price anything higher than 50% off. It is simply to be packaged and sent to storage facilities
This is a trully sad day
P.S. They also said that the clearance isles in most stores will be gone.
Ok I found the answer
Walgreens stores now are allowed to clearance regular items to 50% on shelf. Its up to each district manager whether a clearance shelf will exist however they are being pushed towards no. This is a trial run situation. In rare extremities such as the halloween candy the stores can ask permission for further markdowns on whatever cannot be sent back. Our manager just got back from paternity leave (his wife had a baby not him) and kinda explained. He said it is pure torcher on the stores. It is supposed to be effective on all stores.

I heard it was being packed and donated to charities, for the tax write-offs.
I never understood why they discounted it so much - they get a better tax write-off if they donate it to charity, valued at 50%, times corporate tax rate of 30% = net 15%
If they have it take up valuable shelf space for a few more weeks, there is less other merchandise that they can sell at full price.
Of course, stores like Target have set aside space for the "dollar spot" as a known loss-leader advertising space.
Interesting. I don't think your manager has a clue.
Both of the Walgreens near me had all Halloween marked down to 75% yesterday. All bagged candy was marked to $1.00 a bag.
mines 90% off and its been cleaned out by moi of course.
Maybe its just different districts then? But the southeast district its gone
Oh well...no free/cheap candy for us I guess. The needy need those resses PB cups more than me I guess. LOL
Now I really do wonder what charties get all this halloween candy and stuff? Makes you think?

Mine still has a clearance end cap (never had an aisle full of clearance). I forgot to check for halloween stuff today...darn!!
I know one of the Targets by me donated all of their leftover school supplies to some charity for the school year started. I overheard a customer ask an employee where the clearanced school supplies were because she got word from her friend in another state that they had stuff really cheap. The employee said they donate all their leftover school supplies to some charity...I can't remember if she said it was just that store or the county. So maybe this is a new trend.
Here in Cincinnati, what Candy was left after the 50% Off Sale lasted for a few days, was then placed into Carts marked "50¢, $1.00, & $2.00."
I am really, REALLY hoping that Walgreens does not do away with the Single End Cap Clearance. I've found some fabulous deals there :)
our walgreen's marked all bagged candy at a 1.00 and anything under than was either 5 or 10 cents.
still has lots of clearance stuff too
