Default What is Walgreens' coupon policy??

I tried to use a $5/1 Zantac and a $1/1 Zantac the other day on 2 of the 8ct Zantac's that are $3.99 with the $3 RR (along with a Venus razor) and the person that was called over by my cashier because se didn't know if they took IPs or not (not sure if he was a mgr or not?) at first would not let me use them (because they were IPs). I then told him that I printed them from THEIR site and that was ridiculous. He then looked them over with a magnifying glass @@ and then tried the $5 one to see if it would work, and it did, but then he realized that the Zantac was only $3.99, so he took the $5 cpn off and told me he could not let me use it because then they would "be paying me money". I tried to argue that I was buying 2 Zantac, which equalled $7.98 and I was only using $6 in cpns, but he still wouldn't let me. So, is there a coupon policy online somewhere that I could read? Or is it just basically YMMV?

Thanks!

April

I would love to know the answer to this too. If you look at some of the other Wags threads... I don't think anybody (Wags employee or shopper) actually knows the coupon policy! Seriously.

I've never seen a policy in writing pertaining to the issue mentioned by OP.

from what I know, they had a sale on the single Schick razors for $3 and there were $4 coupons out for any Schick razor. when I got 4 razors and gave 3 coupons, the register took them all w/o beeps, just paid tax.

Default Re: What is Walgreens' coupon policy??

I haven't been able to verify this. It was posted at a consumer site awhile back, but it DOES sound very much like what I know to be Walgreens' coupon policy & yes, it really is going to be YMMV. HTH!

______________________________________________

Coupon FAQ's
Use the information below to ensure that your store is following the
appropriate policy when accepting both Walgreens and manufacturer coupons.

Can a customer use both a Manufacturer's coupon and Walgreens coupon for
the same item in a purchase?

One Walgreen and one manufacturer coupon can be used for the same item,
unless either coupon prohibits such use.
Walgreens Roto Ad Coupons, Instant Value Coupons (IVC), and a
manufacturer's coupon can be used towards the purchase of any one item.
"One coupon per purchase" means one coupon must be tendered for each PIECE
sold.

What happens if the Manufacturer coupon's value is more than the retail
value?
Walgreens does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for more than
the purchase value of the item (e.g., the customer is using the coupon to
purchase a clearance item).
If the retail of the item is less than the face value of the coupon:
the coupon value shall be the retail value if the state requires taxes to
be paid on that item,
the coupon value shall be the retail value plus taxes if the state does not
require taxes to be paid on the item.

Can a customer use a coupon after a sale has been made?
All valid coupons must be presented to the cashier at the time of sale
only!

If there is no quantity limit on a Walgreens coupon can a manager impose
his/her own limit?
Yes, managers have the right to limit the quantities of all advertised
items.

Does Walgreens price match or accept coupons from other retailers?
Walgreens does not price match with other retailer.
Walgreens does not accept coupons from other retailers or coupons for
products not carried in our stores.
Walgreens does not accept expired coupons.

A customer purchased an item using a manufacturer's coupon and wants to
return it. At what price do we return the item?
If an item purchased with a manufacturer's coupon is returned, the customer
will get the retail price of the item. If the customer purchased an item
with a Walgreens coupon, the customer receives the price paid.
Example 1: If the retail price for an item is $1.49 and the manufacturers
coupon was 25¢ off, the refund amount would be $1.49 plus tax.

Example 2: If the retail price for an item is $1.49 and the Walgreens
coupon was 25¢ off, the refund amount would be $1.24 plus tax.

Stores are not required to keep Roto ad coupons. What about Instant Value
Coupons?
For Instant Value Coupons, stores receive credit from the manufacturer ONLY
if the coupon is scanned. Once an IVC coupon has been scanned and the
transaction is finished, you can discard the coupon.

A customer had a coupon with no limit on it and is trying to buy an item
that is "buy one get one free," how many times are we allowed to scan a
coupon for this purchase?
Only one coupon can be used when a customer is purchasing a Buy 1 Get 1
free item, because the customer is only purchasing one item.

Default Re: What is Walgreens' coupon policy??

From the FAQ's

Q: Can I use a mfr. Coupon with a Walgreens 7-day coupon or an EasySaver instant value coupon?
A: Yes, you can. If the mfr. coupon causes overage or even .01 more than the cost, you may have problems (coupon will beep). Walgreens does have the capability to override the cost of the item to make it match the coupon, though not all stores will do this.

I bought 6 Speed Stick Lady's Deodorant today marked down to $.82. I told the cashier to manually adjust each coupon to $.82, but she didn't seem to care and pushed each one through until she got the the 5th coupon. THen she said it wouldn't take. I told her that she would have to calculate 6x .82 and put in the last coupon for the amount of $.92 (the amount left after subracting the $4 for each $1 coupon). She did that and it worked like a charm. So it would seem to me that the total value of all the coupons combined needs to be less than or equal to the amount of the purchase.

my walgreen's WILL NOT take IP's, never mind that they advertise them on the PA system! (yes, I've pointed that out). they also WILL NOT take a coupon that is more than the price of the item...they lost the sale over a lousy penny! for me I usually don't even bother with the deals at Walgreens because it's just such a hassle! the new one that opened is a little better so when I do go, I go there but neither one will budge I would love to have something "official" but I don't think it exists!

collectorofbells, I had a WAGS like this. I finally said to them, "can you just charge me more for the item?" which for some reason worked. Please note do not have them do this if there is a RR in your transaction, as it may not print.

TealSafire is on a distinguished road
TRAIN Re: What is Walgreens' coupon policy??

I had a problem with Walgreens tonight. I had a $10 off a $30 purchase coupon available only tonight. Okay. I buy three packs of Huggies diapers at $9.49 each. I added in two packs of gum to get the total to $33.xx. The cashier took off the $10 taking my total down below $30.00 I also had three manufactures coupons for the Huggies diapers taking an additional $5.00 off. The cashier wouldn't take my manufacturs coupons off becuase it made the total below $30. I asked her what did that have to do with the price of bananas? She told me that they get in trouble when they take manufactures coupons off the Walgreens coupon becuase the total cannot go below $30. I asked to show me where it said that on the coupon. It doesn't state that you can't combine coupons and it doesn't state that you have to keep your total above $30. It's so frustrating. I hate to make a big deal over $5. I will more than likely be calling the store back tomorrow to discuss this with a manager. The store is now closed and it doesn't do me any good to call now. I will also be taking advantage of the MIR on the Huggies diapers.

Has anyone else had a problem like this with the Walgreens coupon policy? What did you do to correct this problem?

TealSafire, it seems that there are mixed experiences with the $10/$30 policy. I know that the stores in my area are trained to take off the $x/$y coupons last so I always plan my transactions to be at least $y after all store and mfr coupons. As you see on the board, in many places people are able to use the x/y before mfr coupons. I don't know what the "true" policy is and I don't know if corporate would give 5 different answers to this question given 5 different phone calls and 5 different telephone reps. Perhaps in your area that is the actual policy or perhaps your store/ cashier was misinformed. I don't know what the case is for you.
